  1. The old man is going senile. I love it.
  2. Mistake there I think, taking Sturridge off and leaving Torres on..
  3. Fulham have some good attacking players. Love how to try to play a passing game instead of the usual hoof it long or cross it to the big man up front..
  4. It's interesting you should use that analogy, as it is quite pertinent in Dutch politics and law at the moment. There were a few incidents over the last few years where a burglar who was assaulted by the home owner went to court and some person ran over the person who robbed them with their car, as a result of which the robber later succumbed to their injuries. These incidents attracted a lot of political interest, especially from the right wing parties, with some politicians claiming that a person who was the victim of an illegal activity had the right to retaliate within certain limits without facing the risk of prosecution.
  5. Really can't see Verthonghen being interested in a move here. Think his stock has already risen significantly higher than us.
  6. I don't see that as being the case at all given how unique this situation is. The Dutch FA have pretty much said the referee's reaction was a little too hasty by overturning the red. Aye. AZ did not necessarily leave the field because of the official's decision, but also because an opposition fan manhandled one of their players.
  7. That's brilliant. Biggest revelation is Raylor actually can smile. Who'd have thought it..?
  8. How did Ajax break the rules? Can they held responsible for a fan trying to decieve them? They can be held responsible for letting a fan enter the stadium who has an active ban for physically harassing the stewards on match day and for making it possible for the fan to get onto the pitch (stadiums in Holland normally have a ditch to prevent this from happening. This bloke used a platform for disabled fans that was not guarded by stewards to gain access to the pitch).
  9. Red card rescinded by Dutch FA. Fan was already banned from the stadium, but got in using somebody else's season ticket. FA to decide how to proceed next week based on reports from both clubs and referee (4 options: full replay, restart from where it was stopped, declare Ajax winner as they were in the lead or declare both teams losers for breaking the rules (AZ for leaving the pitch and Ajax for admitting a banned fan to the stadium and not having their security in order)). edit: I find it quite fitting that the so-called fan appears to be wearing diapers. What a pillock. Fucking shit club too..

Aye, that's great when lovewillneverdie (TPFKA "White Cafu") does it at right back, but when he's charging through the middle of the pitch, he's leaving a massive gap behind him (our fullbacks are primarily pushing forward at home). Anyways, back on topic, Best doesn't look match fit/sharp. However, Ba plays better (and scores more) when there's another big unit up alongside him (Shola or Best) - really need those two to be pushing each other for form and fitness to get into the side. Is this based on anything more than a figment of your imagination? Am I right in thinking the only time he has started a game with HBA behind him is Man City, Man U, Chelsea and Blackburn in the cup, when we rested quite a few players in our first XI? Bit early to say whether he looks better with a 'unit' next to him or not I think, although in fairness he does like to drop deep to link the play. He would look better up top on his own if we didn't insist on hoofing it long all the time and actually tried to play it on the deck. He's not great with his back to goal trying to play the Heskey/Best role. Football has long moved on from the requirement of needing a "big unit" to lead the line, even in England. I can really only think of Chelsea (Drogba) who have a dominating centre forward. Most if not all of the other top teams in England and around Europe now prefer pace and technique over brute force. Mostly this consists of pairing a goal scoring forward who moves around and uses technique to bring other players in to play as well as score goals themselves (Van Persie being a prime example) and an attacking midfielder just behind to spread the play and get into goalscoring positions too by attempting long shots and getting in the box late (the Rooney type). They have wingers to run at the defense with pace as soon as they capture the ball from the opposition and stick the ball in the danger area (mostly low as opposed to high crosses). In theory, we have all the ingredients to make such a system work. Ba would be our roaming forward, HBA (or Vuckic if he continues his progress) are perfect for the support role. We have two pacey wingers who need to be instructed to just run at pace when breaking and stick the ball in the box, and we have the holding midfielders in Tiote and Cabaye to control and build up the play. I could understand our insistence on a powerhouse forward if we had a world class player of this ilk (like Chelsea do with Drogba), but we don't. We're effectively building our team and the way we play around two average, old fashioned forwards in Best and Ba. Pardew really needs to buck up his ideas if we want to be going places and use the squad we have to its real strengths.

Looked very physically ill there on MOTD..
  13. Dear me, Dembele simply losing the ball for Man U's third and then literally strolling back..

Aye, apart from his consistently disappointing use of subs and his preferential treatment of lesser footballers to the detriment of better ones, this is my biggest gripe with him at the moment. We have the players in midfield to play a passing game and our best forwards/strikers are not the battering ram types, so what's with the hoofball tactics of late? He needs to seriously sort this out or I can seen the fans quickly turning on him. Playing an unattractive style of football and not getting the results does not tend to go down well with most fans.
