  1. A bit much perhaps that, upon re-reading

  3. Nice little tonic for those saying McClaren was worse than Pardew (at the time of his appointment). Did anyone on here say that? Cronky doesn't count. I know I responded to a fair few comments along the lines of 'It's another Pardew', 'another English dinosaur'. Anyway, hopefully this better style of play is what we see every week. How are those the same thing? What I, and a few others, said was that Steve McClaren was an unambitious appointment with a very patchy record. Not the significant upgrade the club should have gone for, and I stand by that. Not sure if it was you or not, but the main gripe for me was people saying he was another Pardew in terms of style of football, which is just plain wrong. I also don't think he failed at Derby but I guess that's open to debate. did anyone say this at all? the closest i remember is ronaldo saying that his boro mates hated mclaren and that the football was boring and s*** under him...that's still a very long way from saying he's anything like pardew Yes. Quite a few actually. Such as? Do you want me to name names? EDIT: Just go back in the thread and look. yes i want you to name names as you've made the accusation, i'm not doing your f***ing work for you Have a look at pages 31, 32 and and 63 for example. Are you on a wind up? There's two posters on those three pages combined that have likened McClaren to Pardew without even a reference to a similarity in style of football. If this is the best you can do you may as well admit you made it up and apologise for being in the wrong.
  4. Seen this point made a few times now. Hoe much of an unknown do people think Obertan is to managers who have worked in England for the past fee years, especially one who may have known for the past six months that he was taking over so had all the time in the world to do his homework?
  5. Quite worrying that he's said that about Obertan. Puts into question his player judgement, the way he is being backed or possibly both.
  6. I agree with the sentiment, but you don't remember Pardew ever discussing things with Carver or Stone during the game? Really?
  7. It was very clear in the Southampton game that McClaren and Cathro work quite closely together during the game. I think the plan is for them to do a role reversal in a few years time, with maybe McClaren replacing Carr as well as mentoring Cathro as he takes his first steps in management.
  8. I agree with that. If anything I'm more impressed by us having been able to appoint Cathro, a young up and coming, highly thought off football coach with high level international experience and with the ambition to one day soon manage at the highest level, as an assistant, than by appointing McClaren himself.

Not the significant upgrade the club should have gone for, and I stand by that. You don't think he's a significant upgrade on Pardew? I don't actually. A slight upgrade maybe, and it's certainly refreshing to hear him speak after years of Pardew, but his record isn't significantly better and McClaren seems equally pally with his paymasters already. Put it this way, it wouldn't surprise me if in two or three years time it dawned on people that the McClaren era is just a continuation of the Pardew years. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me. Ask yourself this: which one of the top 8 clubs we are trying to break into would have gone for Steve McClaren, seriously?

  11. A bit early to say tbh. Well, I presume this was based on what they showed in Holland, which was more impressive from Clasie as far as I am concerned..
  12. He wasn't wrong about Anita/Clasie though imo.
  13. The effects of long and consistent use of Pritt Stick are not to be underestimated.
  14. Luuk de Jong is doing pretty well at PSV at the moment. One would almost think our coaching setup didn't have a clue at the time on how to use him or give him confidence. I realise he didn't set the league on fire in Germany either, but he's certainly a better striker than he showed at NUFC, and I wouldn't be surprised if he still managed to prove himself in a better league in the future. As for his brother Siem, I've said he was a better version of Kevin Nolan straight from the start. He can certainly be a very useful player for us and I think he's plenty good and strong enough for the Premier League personally (he put two past Man City in the CL). Writing him off after only a few appearances like some on here are doing is incredibly harsh. Funny thing is I have no doubt that Luuk's poor showings were down to the buffoons in charge. I would have had no issue with him staying actually. He had been injured, and I doubt the preparation for him to get back into the groove was good enough. My post above was more referring to people's disappointment in Luuk at the time, and now transferring that onto Siem. I had no issue with Luuk whatsoever. I think it's a shame he never really got a chance to get into his groove here. Tbf I don't think you can blame Pardew for Luuk de Jong not being able to kick the ball with any force whatsoever It's funny that LDJ seems to be able to hit it just fine for PSV

  16. Not like the GK didn't know what was coming either.
  17. That the player we were supposedly after?
  18. ADO Den Haag goalkeeper Hansen has just scored a rather nice backheel goal in the fifth minute of extra time to equalise vs PSV (FT: 2-2)
