Various: Mike Ashley in talks with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan
Unbelievable replied to Kaizero's topic in Football
Are we due some sort of payment from the PL, sure I read somewhere that we and other clubs got about £50 million in Jan It probably went directly to clearing Mike Ashley’s credit card. What’s worrying is that he was probably telling the truth when he said all his wealth was tied up. SD has less than 1 million in cash going towards the end of the year. I don’t for a second believe that he’s kept it and NUFC separate in their financial dealings over the last 10 years. They run our club shop ffs.. very easy to transfer money between both. I'm not an accountant but I call bullshit on this. -
Over at RTG they all seem to be ecstatic about having lost Grabban and Vaughan as now the young'uns who couldn't get in ahead of them will get their chance. They seem to have an ever accelarating boom-bust cycle where managers and players they bring in (or come through from their academy) are the best thing since sliced bread until it turns out they aren't and they move on to the next one.

Yep, that's how I saw it too

Van Persie returns to Feyenoord on a free. Hopefully he can still do the business at this (wretched) level.
-
Number 4 is registered. Well, there’s an easy place since that number 4 is not getting anywhere near the pitch. Or is Rafa telling us we need rid of wor Jack before we can splash the cash on our new star striker?
-
Colback currently isn’t registered is he? Anyway, if we’re dependent on someone coming in for our deadwood first we may as well not even contemplate any incoming transfers.
-
This combined with no budget equates to sell before buy, or am I missing something?
-
From what I’ve read it’s a loan with obligation to buy if they stay up. Quite the reverse incentive for the player
-
That's absolutely ridiculous as expected. FYP
-
I struggle to see why. 34 year old, one in five forward who spent practically all of 2017 out injured with recurring knee injuries. Sounds exactly like the calibre and type of player that got them into this mess in the first place.

No way he leaves before the end of the season imo. It would take Ashley selling Lascelles to push him to that point I reckon. I disagree. I think he'll go in February if he knows Ashley will still be here in summer. He's here because of the potential takeover. Can't see any reason he'll leave before ensuring he's kept us up. He's not that sort of arsehole imo. Would you really consider him an arsehole if he finally threw in the towel after being stood up in a third consecutive transfer window and with the prospect of a takover in ruins (if that were the case as per the presumption)? I sure as hell wouldn’t. In fact I wouldn’t even begrudge him for suggesting it might happen to force Ashley’s hand one way or the other.

Whoa, haven't checked this thread since late afternoon and suddenly everybody is convinced it's happening and it's just a question of will we do a Man City or not... What's happened in the meantime? Anything concrete, or has somebody slipped LSD in the water supply in the North East tonight? -
Imagine a Championship club spending more than double our record signing amount

Again, what do Staveley and PCP get by going along with this? Other then potentially ruining there brand? Who says Stavely and PCP have to be "in" on it for Ashley to be fooling around without any real intention of selling up though? It's not like Ashley hasn't done this before. -

You mean buy us in time to make their own signings and keep us up? Yeah, so reports are that the valuation is apart and there were issues over relegation clauses. Ashley will want maximum sale price and no relegation clause. If he refuses to allow PCP to 'help' in January he essentially puts pressure on PCP to quickly agree to his value and waive relegation clauses so that they can provide funds for investment to reduce the risk of relegation. I understand the argument but only a buffoon would come up with it in a serious negotiation: "I will offer you 5k for your car" "8k" "Maximum I can do is 6k. Take it or leave it" "8k or I'll f***ing crash it against that brick wall" "..." The analogy is understandable but doesn't really apply. No/minimal investment in January is risky but it is not akin to smashing the car into the wall. If it is a mechanism to force PCP to terms it may be that investment follows if PCP walk away. At the moment the January window is potentially leverage for Ashley and this may well be a bit of brinksmanship. I think the analogy works as it is. The club getting relegated will not hurt PCP as they would just walk and buy Southampton or some other club. They don't have a vested, real interest in NUFC yet, like Ashley has. Ashley stands to lose a fortune by not strengthening. Threatening to run the club into the ground to attempt to force someone else to buy it at a higher price is not leverage in my book, it's idiocy. -

Harsh. We were told previously they were "open to the idea of helping the manager".
