That's my reading of it as well. Pre-meditated and cold. and you don't need to see it in slow mo or from 3 angles, as soon as he done it in real time you knew what the intent was, as obvious a sending off as barton at liverpool or nolan on amichebe. fucking obvious and only the deluded and blindly biased can defend it. Complete fucking idiots are defending it. Nasri's makes some good points about the nasty side to the english game. It has to stop.

Come off it man. I'm as pissed off as anyone about Ben Arfa but this is just snowballing to ludicrous levels. I know but it makes me feel better for a few minutes.

Yeah, true, it could potentially ruin the game...but then I would argue that the conduct of the likes of De Jong and his cynical, dangerous style of "play" is putting the future of the game into just as much jeopardy. If Ben Arfa doesn't recover from this, we'll all have been deprived of watching a potentially great talent blossom in a way which would have brought flair and colour and passion to the game. Meanwhile, we all get to endure the turgid, reckless, soul-crushingly awful butchery of the likes of De Jong getting away with it, week after week. I agree, but the way to do it is through harsher penalties in the game, not through the law courts. I don't think there are any penalties harsh enough in the game. If going legal sets a precedent, then that will be the biggest deterrant to these butchers. Days later and I can't believe how angry and sadened I still am. :-[

Appreciate it's not a cut and dry sort of issue, mate...but honestly, when you see a repeat offender like De Jong getting paid f** knows how much a week to neutralise genuinely talented players by knacking them, it gets to be something a bit more than a disciplinary matter for the FA to deal with, in my opinion. When you have someone behaving like that, basically being a thug, it's bordering on criminality in my view, and needs to be dealt with as such...or at least in a way where the player in question realises that he doesn't have some sort of diplomatic immunity from the justice system whilst on the field of play. Totally agree. It was a criminal act and one that was I'm sure pre-meditated. The club should investigate legal recourse if that is possible (not sure it is or what the actual rules are). It might be that this tackle might rob Ben Afra of a meaningful career in a sport he has graced since a teenager. This is a monumentous tragedy for him as a person and someone who is clear loves the game. The price of playing football has been too high in this case. Tragedy.

The main problem the side has is that Liv has lost it's engine room. No Xavi no Masch.

To cut a long story short he hasn;t done much wrong apart from being too conservative at home. To survive we have to start racking up home wins. The team spirit is good and Tiote is a monster in midfield. In an ideal world we will do some business in Jan for another striker with more mobility and pace.

Can see a 0-0. Two sides shitting it for 90min.

Really enjoying this phase in Liverpool's history. [/chuckle]

Exactly Parky, a bad tackle is not just a full blooded studs up tackle. I always thought that a scissor tackle was equally as bad and resulted in an automatic red card. In a way a scissor tackle is worse than a studs up tackle because in the latter the striker can still move just before the point of impact but in a scissor tackle once the front leg goes in to block the striker's leg, the striker in effect can't move anymore and all that is left is for the trailing leg to crash into the trapped leg. In other words the striker is at the mercy of the defender and all that determines whether there is a leg break is how strong is the impact of the trailing leg. Tried to do the same to Tiote a bit later, but Tiote had alredy gone. That;s why he went back and stood over DeGone.

I browse to OM forums a few times a week (it's unreadable in French or English. Messy place) and the attachment some fans have to HBA is frankly disturbing. They actually physically and emotionally love him. Marseille had a massive match at the weekend, and the biggest topic of discussion is hatred for a random player on Man City. It's the French way.
-
Totally agree. Hope he gets a career ending tackle.
-
It's a scissor tackle. The right leg comes round and cracks the leg which is trapped by the left leg. It didn't look so bad cause it wasn't a massive dive in the damage was done at the end and as the ball broke free, nobody inc the ref was looking. Premeditated and cynical.

The panel are talking shit ie players didn't react so it couldn't have been such a bad tackle.

Worst refereeing since the WC final.
