Carroll Bought for 35m Sold for 17m Net -18m Suarez Bought for 22m Sell for 40m Net +18m There, you've made back your Carroll money. No, wait a minute! We'll get 40m + £1 for Suarez. We're ahead! Even if you get a higher bid, how are you going to replace him with a player of similar quality, unless you're in the Champions League. We weren't in the CL when we signed Suarez …
-
I reckon we'll sell him alright. We're just after a higher bid. Got to make back the Carroll money somehow

SHIT loads of cycle paths, got sick of being told off for accidentally strolling into them. I have a terrible habit of doing that. Because I'm usually on my bike, I tend to use the cycle paths when I'm on foot, too.
-
I prefer Hamburg to London/Paris, tbh. Lots of cycle paths

It started as Parky vs Roy Hodgson, in a manner of speaking, and then just became Liverpool because of general tidiness and the amusement value. Actually it started with Benny the Benitez. That's what I thought. At the time, seeing as we were the top-ranked side in Euro football, it seemed pretty daft to me. Since then, not so much Oh man. Writing lists like that would be my dream job.

Not if you're after biting someone, I imagine.

He doesn't have any off-field problems. Only on-field ones.

I disagree. I'd give my left nut for CL qualification, but I just disagree with celebrating it harder than the team that actually won the title. So you'd sacrifice your left testicle for something but wouldn't celebrate it if you subsequently got it? Perfect logic. He would celebrate. But slightly less than the club that finished above us.

I disagree. I'd give my left nut for CL qualification, but I just disagree with celebrating it harder than the team that actually won the title. So you must celebrate less than sides that did better than you? Is that only nationally, or also internationally?
-
Well we all do that to some extent . We have to, it's part of our job. It goes without saying that my club is better than yours, and I can prove it. I try to draw the line at hypocrisy, though. I disagree. I'd give my left nut for CL qualification, but I just disagree with celebrating it harder than the team that actually won the title. I'm not sure those two sentiments are compatible. Honestly, they can celebrate it all they want. I guarantee you that I have a deeper hatred of Arsenal than you, but I'm not going to hold that against them. I'm pretty sure they're not.

Oh right. With regard to GC, I agree completely. Seems to judge our club and fans by rather different standards to those of other clubs.
-
Especially if they have a wife and kids.

Sure it is. It's the premier competition in Europe and it's where you get to (hopefully) play the biggest clubs and best sides in Europe. It's also the best shop window to put yourself in if you're after a move to a big continental club. Foreign players also don't really care about our traditional domestic rivalries and derbies like we do.

I'd forgotten about the League Cup, tbh I wasn't including that one, and I should have said so. I think the relative value of CL qualification vs actual trophy changes depending on how long it's been since you won some silverware. I reckon most NUFC fans would take a cup over CL qualification at this point, and I think a fair few Arsenal fans would take the FA Cup over CL qualification this coming season, as 8 years is a hell of a long dry spell by their standards. The last time they won something was 2005. They've played in the CL every season since then, and we haven't, but we've won an FA Cup, a League Cup and a UEFA Super Cup in that time. Whose fans and players do you think have the fonder memories? And which would you rather have?

I've just been looking at some of those Maori facial tattoos that the women have. Much smaller than the men's, but they all seem to look like they're drooling. http://www.manaonline.co.nz/epanui/ep-11/img2.jpg http://www.ralphmag.org/DK/maori-face-woman350x387.gif http://tattoomagz.com/wp-content/uploads/tattoos-in-american-culture-foulkmaori-ta-moko-20182.jpg Is that a pair of balls?

I think tats look a lot better on black folks in general. Much subtler. Nigel Benn has a really cool tattoo on his back. Interesting choice of phrase following a phot of Tyson's face tattoo. I wasn't really thinking of him, tbh. Subtle it ain't, but it's still subtler than this pale-face: http://www.refinedguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/buccaneers-face-tattoos.jpg

They're in the CL, we ain't. It's almost impossible to hold on to widely coveted players when you're not in the CL. Also, London is often a big draw for these foreign types over places like Liverpool.
-
TBF, while the CL qualification is theoretically better for the club, most players (and fans) would rather win a competition, even if it's the UEFA Cup. CL qualification ain't listed on your list of achievements, and you sure don't get a medal for it.

What does this mean? They've had a massively better side than you lot for most of the last 20 years, get over it. Sure they have. No one has denied it. they have great domestic record (though poor since 2004)...but they are not a team that can gloat about their European pedigree. Qualifying for a competition is not an achievement, actually winning it (OR at least coming close) is an achievement. Yea, they've been in CL for 15 years in a row. we've probably been in 9 CLs at the same time period (too lazy to check the exact number), yet we've won the whole f***ing thing, and have reached more semi-finals and finals than them. Fact is, they will never come even close to winning the CL under Wenger. He's always been tactically inept in Europe. Jokes aside, I just f***ing hate Arsenal. Probably goes back to 2007 when their fans were singing still calling us "Liverhoof", their fans always gloating how they are the saviours of beautiful football and how every other team in PL except them is boring. And I watch football for football, not for the positive net spend on the balance sheet. Anyways, even if Suarez joins them, he'll jump the ship to Spain at earliest opportunity. Arsenal's "BIG SPENDING, WE HAVE SO MUCH MONEY" summer so far only consists of Yaya Sanogo. They were in the final in 2006 (I think). You don't get much closer than that. One final in 15 years. Pretty poor IMO, considering some of the teams Arsene has had in his disposal during this time period. They've still done better than we have, overall, and spent a lot less to boot.

It's not an assumption, it's a fact. I'm really happy that I didn't get any of the (in hindsight) dumb tattoos I briefly considered when I was a kid. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough that I'm only talking about myself. Like I said, I couldn't care less if somebody else wants to paint stuff on their body or have holes made in it. You're right re the "you only get one chance" thing, but I hardly think it applies to tattoos. A 45-year-old can just as easily have a tattoo done as a 20-year-old. You're not fighting a lone fight - I'm with you! Maybe it's because I'm of a similar age as yourself, but I regularly give thanks that I never succumbed to the imbecile notion of having ink injected into my skin. And I can confirm that if I did have visible tattoos I would be at serious risk of having my employment terminated on the grounds on not maintaining an appropriately professional appearance. I also feel that is a perfectly reasonable position too. San Toon, I'm not sure how old you are, but many of your posts on this matter betray the arrogance of youth, a sort of "f*** The Man if he don't like my ink." The fact is that many people who aren't teens and twentysomethings look at ink and automatically think "Idiot" or even "Criminal." In fact, the same sorts of responses the majority of people think when they see Ranger's face tattoo... What an absolutely appalling attitude! Again you are generalising your own prejudiced and quite frankly ridiculous attitude and using it as the yard stick for everybody else. I'd think you are in the minority, which is a positive thing. If you judge people like that I feel sorry for you man, what a small mind you must have. I find it pretty hilarious how ridiculous that post is. I'm 27, my friendship group are all late twenties. I don't think many people think like you, in fact you're practically the only person I've spoken to who has that attitude. It's nothing to do with "fuck the man". What a condescending and ill informed assumption to make. Do yourself a favour and just don't let it concern you, its up to other people what they do. Actually, an awful lot of people think like that. Or they worry other people think like that. Mate of mine with the world's most impressive dreads couldn't find a job for love nor money after uni (he's an architect). Eventually, one of the potential employers took him aside and said that he'd never get hired as an architect with the dreads: they worried that clients wouldn't like it. He found a job very quickly once he cut them off. I get enough sideward looks just turning up at offices in sandals. Just because people don't come right out and say they think tats/dreads/piercings are unprofessional or otherwise objectionable, it doesn't mean they don't think like that.
