  1. It is pretty mental, isn't it? Apologies, as I'm sure you've probably already answered this. What's your take on the Henderson deal? I don't have one, to be honest. I know next to nothing about him. It's certainly a lot of money, but I'm in no position to say whether or not he's worth it. We're fairly well-stocked in the CM department, and it seems an awful lot to spend on a squad player if that's what he is. On the other hand, I'm sure he'll get a lot more games under Kenny than he would have under Rafa, who didn't do a good job of letting raw players, like Babel, develop.

  3. On the other hand he could end up doing what he did at Newcastle and assemble too many hard working players who aren't any better than most other teams have got. It will be interesting to see how they get on next season once Kenny starts building his own team. Your man Comolli will surely have a good deal of input, too.
  4. Was having this discussion the other day, and mentioned above, that these signings just seem random. I can't link them together into a 'team' at the moment. Typical Kenny D team. Just sign a load of players and then hope they play together. Like at Liverpool and Blackburn you mean? Ha! What did his Liverpool and Blackburn sides ever achieve?
  5. Regardless of you what you think or Gillett & Hicks they were sports people in pretty much the same way as J.W Henry. Methods & how they go about things may be different though. Except Henry won stuff. That has very little to do with what you orginally said though. Also it is players who win things. Christ are one these cretins that wants to see the likes of Kenyon collect a medal? Do you English?
  6. Fuck knows. I know next to nothing about these lads myself. The money is presumably coming from the owners. Dunno about No. 1. I know it's against EU law, but they've made exceptions before. That said, there seems to be a definite strategy of signing Brits in place. Dunno why. Perhaps because they're the only ones who stand a chance of understanding Kenny. Perhaps it's because our foreign side underachieved in the league relative to Europe, but that was clearly due to Rafa's tactics, not the players. No. 2: homegrown has a very specific meaning for UEFA, namely from that league not that specific club.
  7. Regardless of you what you think or Gillett & Hicks they were sports people in pretty much the same way as J.W Henry. Methods & how they go about things may be different though. Except Henry won stuff. Time will tell. Transfer window's not over yet, and we've not seen them play in anger. Suarex and Carroll? One of them has been fucking mint and the other looks like he could be fucking mint. Time will tell, but I think they've spent it reasonably well, with the potential for it to have been spent amazingly well. The £50m price tag was largely determined by what youse asked for Carroll. Ashley said £35m, so we just passed it on to Chelsea. If he'd asked for £15m, we'd have probably asked for closer to £30m. To be honest, if we'd only brought in Suarez for Torres it would look like a fantastic bit of business right now. Only reason they are touring Asia is because of Standard Charter sponsorship. Yeah, cos we've never toured Asia before it's got a bit of a stink of shepherds crazy reaction to gullits failure to me - rafa spunked so much money on foreign shit they're reacting to it by aiming for brits and players where "you know what you're gonna get" You mean the Rafa that took us to two CL finals (winning one) and to second place in the league? Yeah, must have been a big pile of shit he bought. Clearly, buying Brits is merely a reaction to all the foreigners he brought in and has nothing whatsoever to do with UEFA putting limits on the number of foreign players in a side.
  8. Who's that then? Suarez and your lad? Wacko, where's all this outlay coming from? Your accounts will look a bit scary after last year (no CL) then this (no Europe). AFAIK the owners are willing to invest some cash in the team. They've said there's money available for transfers, but understandably not how much. We're looking to offload high-earning fringe players to cut the wage bill, and overall it's financially viable seeing as the owners got the club relatively cheaply. It's still early doors, but it looks like we might have some proper sports folk in charge instead of bu$ine$$men.

  10. Can't beat a bit o' Barry
  11. Some great signings though........Aquilani, Keane, Insua, N'Gog I think it's a fair position to take. Alonso, Mascherano, Torres...
  12. That's the way I see it. All he cared about was getting into the England side. He wanted to go back to LFC, but after NUFC made a higher offer, he didn't have the balls to hold out for the transfer he wanted for fear of being left on the bench at Real for another season. He'd have been off like a shot if a club he fancied had come in for him offering first team footy. You can see now that he's nowhere near the England squad that all he cares about is being near his horses. He'd rather sit on the bench than play every week if there's a chance of getting something shiny.
  13. I think it's a fair position to take.
  14. Of course there were: there always are. They were saying the same thing after Istanbul. Every club has its idiot supporters. That should be pretty obvious to an NUFC fan, I'd imagine. If you want to do what the media does and pick and choose your fans to back up your angle, that's your prerogative. Doesn't make it right, though. The vast majority of knowledgable LFC fans did not want Rafa to leave, and he remains a hero. You were replying to a post which said Liverpool fans wanted Benitez out and said "What? No, we were screaming for the owners to f*** off. Rafa's a f***ing legend." Like I said, that may be true for you but you're not speaking on behalf of the Liverpool fanbase when you say that, which is what my point was. No, but I was expressing the majority opinion (which I share) of the fans I know and the posters on LFC forums. Sorry that I didn't make that clearer. As I've said before, with the exception of a few die-hard Rafa haters, LFC fans laid the blame for Rafa's rotten last season squarely at the feet of H&G. The general informed consensus on Rafa was that he was one of the best managers in Europe and would be very hard to replace, despite his flaws, chief of which was his tendency to be overly tactical and never let the side cut loose. This was both the reason for our success in Europe and relative struggle in the league.
  15. Fair enough. We all have something that presses our buttons. The self-pity makes me cringe, too.

What about the thousands that turned up at SJP to see Owen when he was signed? Do you know how much everyone else was laughing at NUFC fans for that? Get some perspective, will you. LFC fans are no worse than yours in this respect.
  17. Oh fuck off you whining scouse twats, you were screaming for him to be sacked. What? No, we were screaming for the owners to fuck off. Rafa's a fucking legend.

  19. the world cup was probably the most deciding factor if you ask me, the wages a nice bonus. Maybe he thought he could preform for a year here then move on to one of the title challengers after a successful world cup, I seem to recall rumours of a release clause at the time We were just a means to an end for him. He was only ever interested in playing for England and Sven made it clear he would only be selected if he was playing/starting regularly. We were his only option at the time. Not entirely true. We made an offer for him, too, but a lower one. Owen didn't have the balls to push Real to sell to us because he was too afraid they'd leave him on the bench for another season and he'd miss the World Cup. He wanted to come back to LFC again after NUFC, but Rafa wasn't interested. Owen's problems stem from the fact that he has neither heart nor guts. He's always done all his thinking with his not-cunning-enough head, which is why he's never understood or been popular with fans.

  23. Well I wouldn't say respect and restraint are part of Spanish footballing culture if the conga the Spanish team performed through Schweinsteiger's interview after the Euro 2008 final is anything to go by. In Owen's case, he's just a self-centred little twat who has never, ever cared about anything apart from Michael Owen and, apparently, biscuits. The only team he's ever cared in the slightest about is the England one, which is perfectly in character seeing as he was raised in Wales...
