Ex-Mag magic: Chops sticks it to the mackems again Michael Chopra made it three goals in his last two visits to the Stadium of Plight as he got both goals in Cardiff's 2-1 defeat of the mackems. Chops opened the scoring from close range in just the fourth minute but an equaliser followed six minutes later. Happily our former striker got the winner eight minutes before the break and celebrated with obvious delight in front of a sparsely populated home section. He almost grabbed a hat-trick after the break but an offside flag denied him, although the officials also turned down two strong penalty claims for the home side. Former colleagues Stephen Caldwell and Robbie Elliott didn't feature for the home side, Caldwell was an unused sub while Elliott wasn't in the squad. Chopra's side stay four points clear at the top of the Championship, while Roy Keane's flops slipped to 15th Of course, Michael scored the vital equaliser for us on the same ground in April, just seconds after coming on as substitute, sparking our 4-1 mauling of the mackems. www.nufc.com

    Obafemi Martins

Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins is confident he can be a success at St James' Park. The £10 million signing is still looking for his first goal for Newcastle since his arrival from Internazionale. Martins has no worries about his goalscoring drought and has promised to prove his worth to the Magpies faithful. "Maybe I am a slow starter but once I break the jinx I won't stop scoring," Martins told The Sun. "I want to score goals because that is what I'm paid to do. "The fans are looking forward to seeing their striker scoring, I promise them I'm working towards it - and despite the robust defences I will still score great goals here. "The Italians are masters of defensive football. I scored in Italy, so I'll score in the Premiership too." The Nigerian endured a difficult debut for Newcastle when picking up a leg injury in the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa and he is ready put it behind him. "Losing on your debut is bad - getting injured in the same match is worse. But I've decided to push that behind me and move on," added Martins. Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder believes he has nothing to prove as he prepares to make his first return to West Ham. Roeder spent two years in charge of West Ham, but he was sacked in 2003 after the club suffered relegation. Roeder is not worried about any hostile reception he might receive on his return to Upton Park and says he is not bitter about his exit. "It doesn't bother me. As I found out at the end of managing West Ham, life can potentially be very short whatever the reception," said Roeder. "On the day, that will be the last thing on my mind. It is not about my reception. My team is the major player on the day. "I don't feel I have anything to prove there. I have kept in touch with a couple of board members there since I left. "I'm not one of those managers who hopes that his previous club does poorly and I'm delighted the way things have turned out for West Ham." http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=416410&CPID=8&clid=4&lid=3&title=Martins+confident+of+success

  21. http://www.easy-ryder.co.uk/images/peter-reid-in-nufc-shirt.jpg Never mind Roy Keane going to Sunderland - it looks like their old boss has finally saw sense! It's true Peter Reid has traded red and white for black and white in a Blog on The Tyne exclusive! However, Toon fans shouldn't worry too much because Reidy was out in the Balkans to cheer up our Army boys on national duty in Bosnia. The picture features Geordie boy Lamby and pal - who asked the ex-Sunderland boss to don a Toon top for the day while he entertained the troops in the Balkans. And Reidy was happy to oblige. Reidy once famously sold Lee Clark to Fulham for pulling off a similar trick on his days on Wearside and monkeying around before the 1999 FA Cup final. But perhaps its fair to say that the ex-England midfielder was merely doing his bit for his country. What does the Toon Army think? http://www.easy-ryder.co.uk/2006/08/toon_toon_black_and_white_reid.html bluebigeek.gif
