  1. Oh and one more comment, it makes me laugh when I here people laugh when others mention Harper for England, then look at the crap that's in Goal for us. It's our biggest weakness by far, I would swap Howard for any of our guys any day of the week.
  2. Just got my Internet connection back so a bit late in my comments. Apart from Green's awful mistake, hje's looked nervous and scares the shit out of me everytime the ball goes near him, James should be back for next game. In general we've looked a bit crap tbh, the US should not be in the game, they are very limited, it our own fault we are level. I've got to say, I must be mad or something, I keep hearing people say how great Milner is now, but literally everytime I've seen him he's looked the average footballer he did when he played for us. He was awful today, and deserved the hook. Seems like we've started the second half with a bit more passion, a draw's not the end of the world but really we should be beating these.
  3. Think it's all a bit harsh on Benitez tbh. One bad season really, that's all. It's going to have a huge knock on effect though, who'll Liverpool go for ? If I were them I would focus on doing everything I could for Martin O'Neill, that just seems like the right fit there, can't see Villa though letting him go without a fight.
  4. It was, but at the same time we were clearly in the process of transistion, the crowd and directors were too impatient with that, a lot felt we didn't need to transistion, or to have such a big overhaul, there's deffinately some merit in that but the team was aging and we needed changes. A more gradual process of transistion may have served Dalglish better but he was always in for a tough task, he had to follow an iconic manager who holds a special place in the hearts of the fans and who's team play which such niave attacking verve and he was expected to improve upon that. Manure had a bright young team, Wenger was just starting to transform Arsenal, this was the way the game was changing at the time, perhaps KD was guilty of trying to move too fast to try to keep in touch, it obviously didn't work.
  5. He lost a 20+ goal a season striker the same(?) day he sold Ferdinand causing Tomasson who had a bright start in pre season to completely change his game on the eve of a season to fill in for him. Some may say luck was a factor Yeh, losing a 20+ goal a season striker is unlucky. Selling one wasn't. Selling a player that then went on to win the PFA player of the year isn't unlucky. Bringing in Rush, Barnes, and Pearce isnt unlucky. The only position he improved was goalkeeper. That's half the story too. We didn't turn from into an attacking team, into a defensive team. We turned from an attacking team into one that couldn't attack or defend. Ferdinand suffered horribly from injuries in his time with Spuds, just after the move, he barely played, he'll certainly not go down in history as one of Spud's all time greats, getting 6 million quid for hiom at his age was great business. Ginola had no interest at all in playing for Dalglish, that was clear, the two just didn't get along, he had to sell him, Ginola did win the player of the year at Spuds, but still didn't turn that team into contenders. As for the Rush, Barnes, Pearce thing that always gets thrown about here. We needed to replace the players that had gone or were injured, these were stop gap signings nothing more. Rush didn't cost us a lot, and I could understand the logic in bringing him in, someone KD knew and someone who could maybe fill a hole while we wait for Shearer to return. It didn't work out, but we hadn't spent much. Pearce was still a decent left back even at his age, but above all he was a leader that the defence needed, he did not do too bad in his time with us. Barnes was actually one of our better players that year, anyone who suggests that was a bad signing is way off base, he played well and scored some very important goals. I'm not suggesting that KD's failure was purely down to bad luck, there were still some problems of course, as someone else said, he really didn't address the backline, some of his signings were very poor G'uivarch, Andersson, Des Hamilton, etc but he also had some notable successes in the market with Solano , Speed, Hamman and Given. I just think he should have been given more time to get it right, perhaps he would have still failed but shephard was way too quick on the trigger and the crowd were too impatient to, certainly his succesor was no upgrade that's for sure.
  6. If Spuds finish 4th, you've got 3 out of the 4 CL teams coming from London, along with the psuedo London team Manure, I'm not sure that's good for the game, it's already hard enough to persuade players not to pick your club over a London one.
  7. I hope Man shitty tonk them, at least we have the "you bought your way to success" line to peddle out to Man Shitty fans, although Spuds have bought a few, they've actually been pretty good at getting great prices for some of their ex players.
  8. Thoughts? He seems to age two years for every one year that a regular person ages. That might be a deterrent. TBF, if he is 22 now and if his birthday is next week (I have no clue when it is), then he will be 24 next year. Obviously if he's just turned 22 then he's really bad at maths.
  9. I'm an ex pat, I've lived in 4 different countries, I now reside, probably for my last stop in Canada. So perhaps you could quite easily say I've given up on my country. But tbh the quite opposite is true, I'm still very proud to be English and of course a Geordie. The England team though for whatever reason has failed to instil any passion in me outside of the major tournaments. I will be cheering them on though in the summer and hope they win it. The World cup is a special event, that outweighes my indifference to intrernational football.
  10. Manchester United sold their best player last season. If you were Manure, what would you say is silly money for Rooney ?
  11. Got to admit, that was part of my reason for starting this utterly stupid, mornic thread, all my meetings were canceled this morning had time on my hands, the NFL draft is over as is much of the debate after it, all in all most of the forums I frequent are full of crappy threads, thought I should add to the pile.
  12. Young, English, can to hit you in the face with a glass from 20 yards. Yeah you can't put a price on that, this is a guy that can break someone's jaw with one left hook, if he fails to make it in the PL, the club could make a fortune from him in the ring. And as a footballer? I think I have explained my figure on Carrol enough already, just scroll up a little. s**** reason. Cool thanks.
  13. It is utterly ridiculous Phil, no argument there. Like it or not though, some of our players will be sought after in the summer, what I was hamfistedly trying to do, was get a handle on the figure people would snatch someone's hand off if they offered us that money for. For example if someone came along and offered you 1 million for Ryan Taylor, would you get his coat for him and shove him out the door, I know I would. It was a shocking attempt to engineer some debate though, but still probably kept a few entertained for an hour or so.
  14. At the moment, nothing has been proven, he's guilty of nowt right now, however should he be found guilty or get sent down, his silly money (forgive the pun) would be slashed.
  15. Young, English, can to hit you in the face with a glass from 20 yards. 16. Shocking. Forster worth more than Krul, no. Carroll's worth £20 million?! Why? And pretty much the rest of it ... why do you value some of them so highly? A lot of players have done well this season, in the CCC wait and see what they are like next term. There's a lot of debate about who is better right now Krul or Forster. Forster has had a hell of a season with Norwich, there's teams sniffing around after him, he's English . Krul on the other hand has been a bench warmer all season at NUFC, he's largerly done well when called upon, but not had the play time and did not excel to the same degree as Forster did this year when he went out on loan in previous seasons. If we could only keep one, I'm torn which one I would keep tbh. Forster though right now has probably the most sale value of the two, that's not to say he's a better player. Read other replies for my Carrol silly money price. Again you use the word value, I would facepalm that, that's is exactly not what I meant by these figures. The valuations on Jonas and Guthrie are worse. Market valuation, as in what you'd accept. This entire is an utter f***ing disgrace and an homage to the nonsense that has the southern hacks drooling into their wireless notebooks. You'd accept no less than £15m for Jonas, for crying out loud? STFU Ronaldo seriously pot and kettle coming from someone who generally talks the biggest bollocks of anyone on this board. And yet again this is not what I would accept figures either, it's Silly money thresholds. I would accept no less than 7 - 10 million for Jonas, depending on being able to secure a replacement. People often say I would take this or that for a player but at the end of the day you've got to find someone to take the place and there's no gaurentee that you can use all the money you just made from selling the player.

  18. I would seriously consider it and would 99% certain I would take it, but not without first making them sweat a little and lining up a replacement. I wouldn't think that if I walked away from that deal I would be kicking myself forever, even if it meant taking a little less for him a year later if he had taken a step back. 20 Million however and I would. Yeah I agree probably a mental thread, but someone has to start them, I like to be a little crazy at times
  19. Yorkie, I think you are talking more about value and what you would accept rather than what I was talking about which is just plain silly money. I agree with you, I would probably accept those figures, except Carrol who has a much higher price in my book because of his position, physique, potential and how much others think of him in the game. Bassong last year prime example. We had no need to sell him, he was on a cheap contract that had a couple of years to run on it, so we shouldn't have been shopping him. His market value was about 5 - 6 million. 8 - 10 million was about the region where we should weigh up our options. 12 million, was silly money we should snatch their hands off. That's the figures I put in the first post, I wasn't meaning to come over as deluded or a source of ridicule, but it looks like it had that effect, oh well, I guess people laughed at me last year when I started a thread about us needing to lower our expectations to just survival in the premiership, after the fiasco with KK and then appointing JFK. So I'm used to it. I don't think i really get your point. I don't think Coloccini's worth £10m*. He's barely worth six. He had an absolute f***ing mare in the Premiership last year, irrespective of what's been an excellent season in the second division this year. That's not knocking his current form by the way, that's just the reality of it. He's looked a cut above this year but he's still not proven in the big league, so there's no way you can value him at £10m. And there's no way you'd be able to hold out for more if someone were to come asking; and even then, it's largely cos his past reputation abroad. You said "what fee should we accept for Player X?", rather than valuation. ... That's exactly what my post is all about. You think we should hold out for £15m for Colo if someone came sniffing. I'm saying that's crazy insano and £10m is the absolute max. *neither's Enrique ateotd. Btw; someone quick - fench a hanky. The lad's about to blub. All you are saying is that you have a different threshold to how much you would snatch someone's hand off at the offer. The thread title didn't help I guess, I might rename it to Silly money thresholds, that would have avoided a lot of pisstaking, I think but I could be wrong again. LOL, I'm not even close to being all teary eyed yet, but if someone links a youtube of the part in Forrest Gump when his Mrs's dies, that might push me over the edge. Honestly I'm not bothered in the slightlest, I'm not even close to rage quitting this board. Interesting though that I think in a completely different way to normal people though and how I'm absolutely awful at explaining my intent.
  20. The valuations on Jonas and Guthrie are worse.

  22. OK this is my last attempt at explaining this, clearly my thought process is not in line with the majority of you here. The opening few sentences explain things, not a list of values, not even a list of how much you would take for a player, it's a list of thresholds of how much you would consider as silly money to accept for a player. If you don't understand the difference in those terms, then I give up. Im really trying to understand. Maybe because im Norwegian, there is some small misunderstanding, so I'll try again with a small twist on it: You would consider £20m for Carroll silly money, and sell immediatley, yet, you would perhaps sell him for £10m, which would be reasonable? Yes almost, 20 million silly money, accept without even thinking about it. 15 million, that's got me thinking a little. 10 million, that's probably his value on today's market, I'm sure people think that's high, but the English factor plays into it as does the potential, and position he plays in. I'm wary that we've been burned in the past here, a lot thought selling Zoggy for 5 Million or so was a great deal as was selling Milner for 12 million, both those players could move again this summer, for probably double what the clubs pay for them. Obviously we are not exactly flushed with money right now but at the same time we are in no great need to sell, so hanging on to players that have potential and have not yet reached their prime in terms of market value should be paramount and therefore we need to put ridiculously silly money thresholds on them.
  23. I have no idea who you are, or where you've come from, but from some of your post you don't exactly seem the most pleasant of individuals. I did not call anyone stupid, just acknowledge the fact that obviously my thought process is a little different. If you think the thread is so comical stay out of it, again I apologies for wasting your time.
  24. OK explain to me clearly how this is deluded, read the first line, THIS IS NOT A THREAD ABOUT PLAYER VALUES. Thresholds of where it becomes silly money is more accurate a discription. Surely it is a post about player values, if you are setting a price on a player. Just because the prices are laughable doesn't mean owt. It is the value you place on the player. No it's a post on when an offer becomes so silly you have to take it. Lets take Steven Taylor as an example, I set the silly money threshold at 15 mill, personally I think his value is around 5 - 7 million, being English, still highly thought of in the game. We need to keep him though, and there's no gaurentte that if we sold him for that amount we would get a equivalent player in return. If someone comes along and offers around 10 million however, that's got you thinking, it's a good offer over the player value, but again you've got to weigh up whether you can replace him, chances are you'll take it, but it's not a no brainer of a decision 15 million would be.
  25. OK this is my last attempt at explaining this, clearly my thought process is not in line with the majority of you here.
