Was it definitely an injury? I thought they were managing minutes for Bournemouth. We already know Wilson can’t play every game it’s just been highlighted even more now because he’s our ONLY fit striker currently.

Hope's tweet further up says he felt his hamstring.

    Was somewhat inevitable I guess.

    What a mess.

Need a champions league squad to implement champions league tactics. Tonight’s team should be nowhere near champions league football in all honesty,  but here we are. Mostly down to Eddie’s coaching.

God I wish we had all our players available.

This talk of him being tactically outdone is just so baffling.

  3. My God ... so it was an injury?!

Callum just can't handle a proper run of games man. Body isn't up to it.

Such a pain Isak is looking like he's susceptible to the odd knock too.

This is ridiculous. We need to get another striker that is really rugged and physical, and that can play a ton of games without issue.

My bairn (9yr old) stood up at the final whistle and clapped.

He knows this is totally different to the prem. Totally new experience for most of them. Bare arsed squad. Proper full on graft week in week out.

This lot are fucking leaving everything on the field every game.

Not a single excuse can be found for losing tonight.

    Dortmund were class.

Even your 9 year old gets it, and has a better perspective than some on here.

    Kudos to you sir.

Disappointing like. So frustrating. Thought we were better tonight in parts than the home leg. That Joelinton chance was a sitter, you have to, have to take chances like that at this level. The second goal was absolutely criminal at any level too.

Thought aside from the PSG game, we've not looked good in any of our CL games. I think we're struggling with the slower tempo of CL football. Its more technical and less frantic than the PL. I think some players havent adapted yet and it hasnt suited them. Joelinton, Willock and Longstaff have been brilliant in the frantic pace of the PL, but have looked technically off it in the CL. Tonali may have been better suited in these games, certainly looked better against Milan and PSG than he has in the PL.

I think we really miss Isak too, he's a focal point and holds the ball up well. Wilson in both legs barely layed a glove on their centre halves, Isak would have caused more problems.

Anyway, the most important thing is that Howe and the lads learn from this. I think qualifying is gone now, but Europa league isnt out of sight.

Such a good point about the tempo

One thing I'm finding more and more recently, is that I'm not actually that downtrodden when we lose, I'm naturally disappointed, but I'm not anyway as effected as I once was. Mainly as I know that we have the players, manager and staff that will make sure they do everything they can to make it right next game.

It's a slightly odd feeling

Plus we are way ahead of schedule too!

It's so impossibly early in this process, and as you've said, with the people we have in place it's just going to get better from here as they will continue to build.

Bruno is our only midfielder who is proper top CL quality imo. At least for a group like the one we are in. The others lack either technical ability or intelligence or a little bit of both.

    I agree.

However, even then, with a striker like Isak dropping in deep it allows the midfield to function far better even at this level.

Once he got injured we were in big trouble. Wilson is just not a connector in the same way. Can get away with it in the Prem but not in this competition.

Even in the second half, once Gordon went upfront we improved so much because he was dropping into midfield and the channels more, which improved our play.

Not even that annoyed. We have competed with a decent CL regular across two tight games and just a bit of naivety and their experience and quality, has beaten us.

I’m still not having that either game was some tactical masterclass from them. We just weren’t clinical or effective in the final third across 180 minutes and they were. Fine margins and we are still trying to become a CL regular like they are.

Would have been nice to have played them with Isak and not half our team missing.

Livramento was class and I thought both Joes were and all, bar the miss, of course. Not sure what’s happened to Trippier. But may as well get him off set pieces now.

Ah well. Focus on getting 3rd now.

    100% spot on.

Trippier was annoying, but honestly, he has played too much this season.

Now Livramento has shown such a high level of play, once we get left backs healthy, Tino and Trippier need to be rotated a lot more.

Shame even now he has to keep playing with both Targett and Burn out injured.

Difficult to be too upset at him really.

We are only at the start of our new journey but some of the comments on here by the pissy-nickered brigade makes for tough reading.  Look where we are after a season and a half of new ownership man.

We really should be used to these awful takes after every tough result, but they are still so shockingly delusional man, honestly. It's sickening.

Guys look tired. Dortmund clearly deserved to win. Just more technical quality on the ball than anything.

Hopefully a good experience for some of our young players.

Thought Tino impressed again & was our best players, particularly at fullback, which I think suits him better than winger.

Yeah, agreed. We absolutely cannot afford to not have the likes of Isak and Tonali available at this level, regarding your point on technical quality.

    Learn what lesson?

We hit the woodwork 3 times in the first game... and but for a shocking miss from Big Joe today it would be a different game completely.

They're a quality team, but we haven't done bad, just fine margins.

I'm almost certain some people are either not watching the games or genuinely don't even know what they're looking at and so might as well be watching water polo.

And so every result is some inquisition about lessons not learned and tactical or managerial nous.

    It's so embarrassing man.

Should have equalised through Joelinton but didn't. Turning point that.

That and the fact we have 8 first team players unavailable.

Never mind, learning curve for us.

Yeah, just a tough set of circumstances.

Respectable showing but just too much to overcome.

Great night for Livramento who continues to take huge leaps forward.

Dortmund definitely have our number. Whatever it is we need to do to effectively cope with them we either lack the specific personnel types (likely) or managerial nous (less likely, still possible) to do so.

I take some small comfort in the fact we're a work in progress without great quality in depth and also legitimately plagued by injuries at the moment.

Here come the managerial nous folks again ... oh my goodness.

Don’t really have an issue with how we’re set up, yes it was a high risk but that was almost all on Trippier’s delivery. No one should ever be hitting the first man, but certainly not when we’ve got everyone forward. Shocking, his head just hasn’t been there tonight

Yeah, exactly. We were going for a key goal.

Why Trippier cannot beat the first man is beyond me. Time and time again.

    He has been infuriating.
