So presumably you don't have any opinions on any players then? What a load of nonsense

Okay, well here's my opinion on MCTominay ... I think he's a big, athletic midfielder that plays with a lot of intensity. I've seen him do things at times that are surprisingly good, and I've seen him do dumb stuff at times too. There is some ability there, and certainly valuable attributes to work with. In my opinion describing him as shit is silly.

I do not think it is beyond the realm of possibility that with more regular playing time and a more specified and consistent role in the team, with better individual coaching and direction that he could be a valuable piece, especially if the manager sees something he likes in him.

Calling him shit and acting as if him being a terrible signing would be a certainty is just weird to me.

    KaKa, you're being weird.

It's absolutely fine and reasonable to mildly question the worth in signing Fred Mc-Fucking-Tominay for a team looking to win the league in the near future, especially if you're literally a football scout.

To be fair I responded to a post in the first placed that stated 'We'd better not sign McTominay', which I found hilarious tbh.

Also, I just don't really have time anymore for posts that just state a player is shit, because it's just so weak and doesn't really say anything.

So if we are really looking at him do you really think the manager and all those involved in recruitment are really that fucking stupid that they just want to go out and sign someone that is just flat out shit?!

As if players can't play different roles in different setups at a different club, and be able to offer something else that is valuable. So strange man.

 well yeah but I’m not acting as if he can’t be questioned. What is the literal point of a discussion forum if we just go “Howe liked him so I can’t say he’s a bad player”? If Howe wanted to sign Jack Colback are we not going to be able to say “Colback is gash”? It makes no sense at all.

No, you make no sense at all, because I never said anything about whether I think he is a good player or not, or anything about questioning it.

My whole thing is you back your manager and he either excels or he hangs himself. I'd fully have the managers back over anyone on here, based purely on what he has achieved in just over a year, with a number of players that folks on here were screaming were shit.

I just don't trust most on here when it comes to judging players, because it's usually based on emotion and stuff that isn't purely down to on field performances.

Not sure why there’s so much squabbling.

Eddie and his team know what they want to improve and will have scouting reports and stats etc.

If they think he’s worth buying its for a specific reason.

Because deep down I don't think most really rate him or his decisions and are just waiting for things to go a little bit wrong before pouncing on him for being too nice like we've started hearing recently, or whatever other nonsense.

They want name brand managers and players and just want to go down the Chelsea route.

They do in one season, if you check his full breakdown not so much. There are lots of red flags in his numbers and beyond that the eye test also applies. If Howe wants him that’s his choice, he’s not God and people are allowed to question it. All stats are fallible, see Chris Wood’s “headers won” stat.

Breaking news everyone, apparently Howe is not God

In my opinion, if you bring in a manager you give him the players he wants so that any judgement of his performance can be completely fair.

If he brings in any players and it doesn't pan out and it leads to poor performances then he can be held fully culpable. Simple.

Every single professional midfielder in the premier league can press the ball, I mean come on now. There’s a reason the very first thing ETH did was upgrade their midfield.

I'm completely bored of this discussion. His break up numbers ,which I posted above, speak for themselves.

If Howe does want him and does sign him, I'd be interested to see how he is used and what he gets out of him, and will not be over reacting beforehand. Simple as that.

I can’t be arsed getting in to it with you, you simply can’t accept anyone having a different opinion to you when it even slightly negative. Of course he or they close down during a game every player does but it isn’t a strength of his game. You also seem to think he has pace, yet he has recorded slower speeds than lindelof and Phil jones and was only slightly quicker than Matic when he was at Man Utd.

Fine lets not discuss this any further because I completely disagree with your assertion that he is slow and he doesn't press and close down players well.

I genuinely have no idea what you are watching if that is what you are seeing.

Hopefully there’s a fair few others that are having their say.

I'm sure there will be and their recommendations will largely be based on data.

Last season he played the most minutes he ever has in the premier league and his disruptive numbers stood out, and so if we're looking for another midfielder that is very active in breaking things up then he will have been flagged. I mean it would hardly be a surprise.

Have you watched him or Man Utd in the last few years ? When has he or them played a pressing style ? I’m not sure what you are on about tbh.

I’m not saying he can’t press, but you can’t list it as a big attribute when he’s never been asked to do it.

Do you even know what pressing is? So you've never seen Man Utd or McTominay press and close down the opposition in any game? Are you serious?

    This is embarrassing man.

We have Longstaff and Joelinton who are performing a similar role. We need to add quality in area so we don’t have to rely so heavily on Bruno.

Well that's down to the manager, and he should be allowed to build up the squad as he sees fit.

Be disappointed in us giving Man Utd money for a bang average player ?

And you can’t have seen much of him if you think his speed is an attribute, it his pressing since he’s never played in a pressing side.

So according to you he is slow and doesn't press well yeah?

You're the one that has no idea of what type of player he is.

  12. 14 minutes ago, SUPERTOON said:

    We better not sign Mctominay

Why, what are you going to do about it if we do? ;D

You lot are so funny man. Seems an Eddie Howe type of midfielder, with his size, speed and high intensity pressing. If he's on Howe's list, give the manager what he wants.

  13. 18 hours ago, The Prophet said:

The only concerns there is Joelinton. He hasn't been convincing as a six when played there.

This isn't true at all man. I don't understand how you could even say this if you watched the games. He's been great in that position as well. Just go and read the match threads when he has played there. He broke up play as he usually does, won most of his aerial duels and constantly held off players and turned away from them in deep positions to then pass the ball forward.

The real issue with him dropping deeper though, is that it has made our press a lot less effective higher up the pitch because no one else could do as good a job as he does pressing from either wide left or the number 8 position and so teams were able to get at us more.

  14. What I find so funny about this 'nice guy' bollocks is that most of the angry shouty managers are the worst managers! It's such a stupid, dumb trope man. Really annoys me.

Don't blame him. Far too good to be on the bench as much as he is.

These players are beginning to get fed up of not playing games when they are good enough to feature for most other teams.

Needs to start, this has been going on for months now.

    For goodness sake man

Have you guys just forgotten he was out injured for long periods? Or am I missing something here?

  17. 27 minutes ago, Beren said:

Not calling for Howe's head, or anything close to that, but his approach to bedding Isak into the team has objectively been proved wrong IMO. Unless Isak has a chronic conditioning issue.

Mistakes are as serious as the results they cause, and it feels like we've missed an opportunity to get Isak to gel in a new attack by persisting with Wilson when it just wasn't working or even showing signs of turning around.

The guy has been out injured a lot of the time, and so it has been stop start with him, as he can't just be thrown straight back in with the longer term injuries he's had as his fitness wasn't up to par.

Why are we acting as though he's just been kept on the bench for fun?

I’d love to be positive about our league form but realistically we could’ve played for 4 hours there and wouldn’t have scored. We’ve been the worst team in the league going forward for a couple of months now and we don’t have the playing staff to change it. The window was a massive chance to be proactive and we didn’t take it.

Some of you lot and this magic transfer window. How has it worked out for Chelsea getting in all those players to turn around their fortunes?

  19. 1 minute ago, LiquidAK said:

Devastated. All came down to a few small moments of quality or a little luck that went their way. We matched them throughout tbh.

Don't feel Karius was at fault for either goal, and actually thought he played pretty well, seemed quite assured and confident if a little rusty - which is really to be expected. First goal was a brilliant header, second was an unlucky deflection. Definitely be happy with him as Pope's backup going forward. Think Pope may have saved one or the other, but that's more that Pope is amazing, not that Karius did anything wrong.

Proud of them all, they gave it all they had. Didn't feel like anything dropped our way all game but they didn't give up. Love this team, gutted we haven't lifted a trophy. This would've meant so much more to us than it did to their lot, which hurts even more.

Yeah, super relieved for Karius and happy he had some good moments. Hope he feels happy with his performance.
