Being famous, successful and rich certainly helps.

For sure ... we're at least facing the right direction now too, and so plenty to look forward to for us also.

We haven’t bid for Pellegrini. I’d be extremely surprised if we have.

Perhaps not. Just responding to the post that claimed we had.

Have seen that £50 million amount mentioned before regarding what we'd be looking to pay for Paqueta though, and so perhaps we're looking around to see who else we'd be able to get in that range, to put some pressure on Lyon.

Good at making deals quickly and quietly Liverpool most times.

Exceptionally run club at the minute. The way they smoothly added Diaz in January with minimum fuss was crazy. And now they've arrived on the scene late and out of nowhere for Nunez and are set to wrap it up. Mad.

50m bid turned down for pellegrini.. according to della sport .

That's not far off what Lyon apparently want for Paqueta, so perhaps a bit of pressure being applied by looking at other options, as there were previous reports we were looking to pay £50 million for Paqueta.

Would Paqueta be our 'next-level stratosphere' type of signing or are we talking like a Diaby, Isak, Osimhen or even higher like a Dembele, Nunez or Dybala?

Just keen to understand what constitutes next level for people given where we are today

Paqueta, like Bruno would be an amazing signing for where we are right now IMO. They're both perfect in the sense that they are both great talents that the top clubs haven't quite gone all in on yet within the past season, and so it allows us to come in for them, without them turning their noses up at us. Lyon not making it into Europe also was significant, as it means Paqueta wouldn't be sacrificing that to join us.

The other players you mentioned I think are now a step too far for us, as there appears to be some stiff competition for them all, and they are all after European competition. Perhaps there would be a chance with Isak, but not sure, besides I don't think we bring in another main striker now.

  6. If we really did enquire about the likes of Pellegrini, then Paqueta is definitely on our radar, and I'm beginning to really think we end up getting him, provided we can structure other deals to make it all work from an FFP point of view.

Lorenzo Pellegrini? Are we everyone’s clickbait at the mo?

“Newcastle United made front page news in Italy today after being linked with AS Roma skipper Lorenzo

The Italy international is a man in form this summer after scoring goals8 in his country's UEFA Nations League campaign against Hungary and Germany. And the man who lifted the Europa Conference League trophy with Roma woke up to his name in headlines on Corriere dello Sport.”

Wew, very ambitious signing. Nice to aim high initially, and see what happens though.

This would definitely point to more of a 4-3-3 next season, as ideally we would need a goal scoring midfielder to add into midfield with Joelinton, and then Bruno sitting deeper.

Looks like that might end up being the approach. Interesting.

Was 90% convinced that Nunez would be a trap, until Liverpool entered with their brilliant record of recent transfers.

I think he's one that could go either way depending on which club he joins.

At Liverpool I see him doing very well, as I think he fits what they do, and Klopp will just get the best out of him.

Had he gone to Man United, with all the changes and current drama, don't think it would have been as much of a certainty.

Definitely does not seem like a forward who fits into their current system.

I've been massively unconvinced by what I've seen like. But Liverpool rarely miss a step.

I think it's a really good fit for them and for him to be honest.

He's a very athletic, strong and pacy forward that will press aggressively from the front, which is right up Liverpool's street, and when they win the ball back he fits their quick transitions very well.

The main thing that I think will really then give Liverpool a new dimension with him is his ability to attack the ball in the air. Due to the more diminutive players they currently have they don't always take advantage of the numerous crosses TAA and Robertson whip in quite consistently.

This is very left field and came from the Ashworth interview and how he targets players that have their pathway blocked  - how about Liam Delap of Man City  as a back up to Wilson - very talented - won’t get a look at City now

I've always maintained that the mid to lower clubs should actively target these kinds of players, but they don't seem to. I'm all for it.

Instead the foreign clubs seem to be taking advantage. Man City lost Nmecha to Wolfsburg last year I think and he's been doing well, and looks like he'll be a big coup for them.

  11. England have some really good attacking talent, but how to get the ball forward to them?

The transition from defence up to attack continues to be a big problem.

All this time and it seems Southgate still hasn't figured out how to get his midfield and defence to work together to get the ball up the pitch.

Does not seem like a reliable source. This source is not listed in any reliability guide, and I also could not track the actual source down to see who wrote the article. Another thing to keep in mind is that it has yet to be mentioned in any of the go to news accounts such as @parisunited6 or @GFFN

Ah, okay. Fair enough. Good news for us then.

The two most concrete links have been Botman & Ake so seems a weird conclusion?

I guess I might well be wrong. I just wonder if linking those two is just a follow on from the January window.

Saliba, Lacroix and now Demiral have been linked recently, and they're all younger right footed centre backs, whereas we didn't see too many of those linked in January.

Guess we'll see what happens. Just caught my attention the recent links with more of these right footers.

My feelings are the exact opposite - I'm certain their looking to upgrade Burn before Schar. BDB slotted in and did very well, but he's by no means a top 6-8 defender.

That's not to say an upgrade to Schar won't happen, just that I think Eddie will look to upgrade Burn first.

Yeah, I guess he might well go that way. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Can't wait for everything to be tied up and to get a better idea of what the team is going to look like.

Hope we are keeping options open and looking for both

Need to build up our squad if we are looking for Europa league

Yeah, we'll probably get another CB that is initially more of a younger backup.

Merih Demiral the latest name today.

    Atalanta and Juventus loanee

More and more convinced we are looking for a partner for Dan Burn rather than one for Schar, and so will be looking for right footers now, like Demiral is. As have been a number of other centre back links of late like Saliba and Lacroix.

It would be hard for the other teams to match our offer. 30 million is a lot for a youngster with a single season behind him. He'll sign.

Same with Botman - can't see Milan throwing so much money for a position which is not a priority for them. I'm sure he'd prefer to go to Milano but only if they offer similar money to us. They won't.

    We're talking about PSG here.

It’s fairly obvious he’s stalling us out as we’re not his first choice.

Hope PSG’s poor track record for bringing promising youths into the first team picture will make the lad see sense.

Would be a blow to lose out on 2 priority targets this early.

It would be a very risky choice going there, but the guy really looks up to Mbappe and so that may influence him significantly. Both there dads are from Cameroon and everything, and so even their backgrounds are quite similar.

Funny thing is one of PSGs youth players, Arnaud Kalimuendo, just had a really good season out on loan at Lens and he's a striker and all. Scored 12 goals for Lens this season and is just 20 years old this year, same as Ekitike. We've been linked with him too, and so that might perhaps be another option if PSG go for Ekitike.

  19. Pretty sure it's been stated that Howe will have the final say, as he should, given he's the one that has to work with them and get results. Don't understand any concern with him having the final say either. Having said that, I'm sure he won't be dismissive of any feedback or suggestions from the other parties involved in scouting etc. as he's a pretty balanced guy and not some ego maniac.
