I really believe that Howe wants to move to a 3 at the back formation next season. Towards the end of his Bournemouth career he started to use the 3-4-3 that beat conte's

    Chelsea more and more frequently.

Also if he plans on sticking to a back 4 it wouldn't make sense to sign Lodi (who struggles defensively in a back 4) over Targett.

The 3-4-3 would work well for Maxi as well, it would allow him to play as on the left wing but with less defensive responsibility.

Nah, he has always preferred his narrow 4-4-2, with one striker that drops into the hole.

For the first time ever he has a chance to buy high calibre players for his system. My bet is that he will do just that.

If you take the story as gospel, aye. Sounds like bullshit to me though.

Yeah, maybe. The level of detail makes me think it might be true though. Maybe he forgot it was on that day ;D

Sounds like Atletico got priced out of a transfer they probably thought they’d already sealed, and are now trying to save face by saying they passed on it because the player has friends, and relaxes in his own house.

I mean ... If you're being visited by officials from a club you got to be more professional than that

You're being too generous to Simeone, his game isn't cut for Simeone playstile.

Lodi lost a lot of credit with Tite due to the vaccine issue and the Copa America error, but he was benching Alex Sandro and being the most atacking player on the left flank for Brazil when neymar was injured. As I've said, for me, he's one of the best atacking LB's in the world, good skill on the ball, pace and some pinpoint crosses.

He was starting for my club when he was only 19 and became the best LB on the brazilian league as a 20year old.

Um ... that was my point. He's not going to get too many assists bombing forward playing in a Simeone team, as Simeone is more defensive and structured, and so Lodi didn't really get a chance to shine as an attacking full back with the freedom to get forward as much as possible.

I’m reliably informed Henderson has agreed terms with us, just a fee/ loan terms to agree. As I said yesterday I’d rather have Pope (though I accept he’s not as good with his feet).

Henderson is only 25 and is much more comfortable with the ball at his feet. He's the much better signing IMO. I like the move.

The guy has never managed more than 2 assists a season. Comparing him to Man City and Liverpool fullbacks is overrating Lodi massively.

Stuck in a Simeone team tbf, and so he's a bit of a waste in that system.

Targett would be stupid to sign to compete with someone else.

I think it's part of the reason him signing hasn't been as straightforward as anticipated.

I think it's part of the conversation Howe will want to have with him regarding him staying on, which is that Howe would look to sign another fullback like Lodi that is more attack minded to rotate with him, with Targett being more of a defensive specialist when we face teams that will challenge us more.

If Targett is fine with that then he'll likely be signed with Lodi I think, and Lewis will then be moved on.

It was Luke Edwards who reported it, he was up in Newcastle a day or 2 before the window closed. At this point Arsenal expected to sign a striker but that didn’t happen so they blocked the move.

    Ah, right. Very interesting

He was supposedly very close to coming in January and I’m guessing we have kept up contact with him.

Now you mention it, I remember reading Arsenal pulled the plug on letting him leave as they wanted to wait till the summer to get a new striker, but wasn't sure if that was true. Might have been due to that it didn't pan out then.

Where did you hear he was close to joining us?

Seems like Nketiah isn’t staying, wouldn’t be surprised to see him here.

Arsenal completely messed up his situation. What an end to the season he's had.

Just when he seems to be figuring it out they are going to lose him for nothing. No idea why he hasn't been getting more opportunities to play there, especially earlier this season.

Would be great timing to pick him up now if he ends up with us. Think he's looked class recently.

Yeah, I see. It's just that the interest never really seems to be as strong or persistent as you might expect. The guy is an unbelievable player, and I think Spurs have been lucky to hold onto him so long without any real pressure being applied from better clubs than they have been recently. it always just seems to be about whether Kane will leave and not Son.

I hear what you’re saying and Howe’s earned the chance to go with the system he thinks will bring us the most success but id be lying if I said I wouldn’t have concerns with us moving to a system no other top teams in the world are using.

I mean it's not exactly a flat 4-4-2 with wingers sat out wide Burnley style.

One of the strikers drops and plays off the pacey striker looking to get in behind, and the two wide men play narrower in the half spaces like attacking midfielders, and the full backs then bomb on providing the width. It's really a variation of the 4-2-3-1, using another striker to provide more support to the main man upfront, rather than a classic number 10 that might end up dropping deeper more often and leaving the main striker isolated.

Amazing to be indirectly involved and not give any shits about any results. [emoji38]

Can you imagine if we were one of Leeds or Burnley. My God man. Couldn't do it.

I would have had everything turned off and gone and done something to completely take my mind off football.

Son comes across as such a lovely lad. I wish for him to not be at Spurs

Baffled by how there's never any rumours surrounding him from the likes of Real, Barca or Bayern. He is a top tier player.

At least today wasnt a let down, great entertainment

Yeah, it was class. Wish Spurs would have had someone tougher than Norwich, but other than that great day of football. Just fantastic.

  16. If Liverpool had managed to take the lead, Man City would have probably folded.

They didn't do the business soon enough to put maximum pressure on Man City.

Very poor from Liverpool. Man City never fell from that top spot and had to deal with that tension and now it's gone.
