Yes definitely a West Ham, they've let old skool Moyes have a heck of a lot of control - Rafa would be doing way better with the kind of players they have.

This is why I previously mentioned Forest as a good fit - a city who would appreciate him and a big club trying to get back to glory days, decent players but need a system to be moulded. They love Cooper though so it may be a tough act to follow. We loved him as we had Pardew, Carver, McClaren so we could recognise greatness. But if your previous manager is popular (e.g. Everton) then it's a tough one.

Sad to see his reputation in tatters though as it's clear he is a great man and manager. Poor choice of jobs has come back to haunt him. Him and Mourinho were very similar as managers, but Mourniho has insisted on only top clubs who can have a chance of silverware. It's kept him relatively undamaged.

    100% agree with you.

Weirdly enough I've always respected Rafa's willingness to take even the jobs that weren't at top clubs, I think it's a sign of how much belief he has in his ability. However, he has proved to be really unfortunate due to us having a lunatic in Mike Ashley when he was here, and then the decision to go to Everton despite the uproar was just a terrible move.

This is the part I don't like about him. The folks he surrounds himself with, like Owen Brown, aren't exactly the most distinguished scouts. Rafa's record is good, but you can't beat specialized folks running the footballing side of things.  As much as I respect the guy, I don't want to go back to the one person who controls everything model. The way most clubs operate nowadays with Ashworth, Edwards, and their type being in charge of transfers, scouting, and having youth setup independent of the manager makes a lot of sense.

It took us three to four years after he left to wean ourselves of his legacy and move in a different direction, as he practically had control of everything. When Klopp, Howe, or Pep leave, the disruption to other aspects of the club will be minimal.

It's a fair point. Especially for clubs that know what they're doing as far as actually putting together a viable setup.

However, I think there are a lot of clubs that could benefit from a manager like Rafa still. West Ham and Leicester don't seem to have that kind of setup but have spent a decent amount of money, which Rafa would have done much better with in those circumstances IMO.

Love Rafa the manager and respect Rafa the person even more. But this is an important aspect that is going to deny him jobs. Everywhere he goes he demands 100% control. Even if signs the contract to a club with a DOF, within six months it becomes either back him or back me. And more than often, this gets played out in the press, and one of them has to leave. This happens almost everywhere he goes including Everton. I am betting this is an important reason why someone like Marsch is getting more interviews than him.

Most club owners are clearly complete morons then, IMO.

Looking at Rafa's record of not only finding great value in the market, but also managing to get the best out of pretty mediocre players, I don't see why you wouldn't afford him the opportunity to just get on with things.

He's one of the few that actually can handle that level of control and do well with  it. Just let him bring in his own recruitment people that he wants to work closely with and get out of his way.

He bought championship players to get outta the league. When we got the Premier league Ashley wouldn't part with the money to improve us  so we were left with piss poor prem players, yet the man had us comfortable which is a feat in itself.

Rafa had been planning months ahead for our return to the Premier League and had lined up and agreed loan deals for Tammy Abraham and Loftus-Cheek to come in from Chelsea, using his contacts from when he worked at Chelsea.

Guess who vetoed the deals ...

Rafa may be having difficulty finding a job because I think he has a reputation now for not getting on with club owners, and that doesn't just mean Ashley.

That's not necessarily fair, but I think that's what's around.

Ultimately he proved to be right about the Liverpool bunch and then proved to be right about Mike Ashley.

Seems to me that Mike Ashley has since poisoned his name about the place. I always hear the likes of Simon Jordan spouting nonsense about him being a trouble maker, I wonder who on Earth he heard that from other than his pal Mike Ashley.

Why ask for a one year extension?

And how much money did he ask for for this one year extension. Any idea?

I already told you why he asked for a one year extension.

Don't even bother trying to insinuate he was asking for too much for that one year extension either.

This shit is truly pathetic man. Urgh.

Look at the money he spent for the time he was here. It was a decent amount and he could've done much better if he used players better and bought better.

Let's look at his final season with us and see what players he had at his disposal.

We had some decent players at the time which weren't properly used in my opinion.

Not to mention Mike Ashley wasn't even giving him any money to spend. Are you sure you it wasn't a different club you were following ?

Lets see the names of these players then

Obviously as a club we did need to spend better but bear in mind we bought a lot of championship players at the top end of the scale to do a job and it worked.

Back in the premier league Rafa bought in some decent players but not enough but he also didn't get the best out of a lot which I think he could've definitely done, Miggy being one.

But as I said earlier, Ashley has to take his share of the blame but so does Rafa.

I think it's pretty clear you either weren't really following the club at the time or you just weren't paying attention to what was going on. Reads like you're just making stuff up as you go along.

  10. Like the look of Boro though. Carrick's decision to drop Chuba Akpom a bit deeper was truly genius. Been hit and miss today, but really like him in that role, and his goal scoring record has been tremendous this season.

Because interest from Spurs could force us to pay his release clause, which could affect how much we can spend on others.

The suggestions are that if we finish in the Champions League and maybe even just European places in general, that we are willing to pay that release clause for him.

At just 21 years of age and already at the level he is at, that outlay will likely be considered justifiable.

Sporting had been trying to get him to sign a new contract to take out the clause, but his reps have made it clear he isn't going to do that due to the interest in him.

    How did he work wonders?

He was offered a new contract but he wanted 6 million a year, unless that's not correct.

He then chose to go to a Chinese club with a pretence that it was just the project he needed when it was plain to see it was the silly money on offer.

I have zero time for him.

No it is not correct. It's amazing that you are so critical of him without even knowing what went down.

Mike Ashley after messing him about most of his time here over signings, tried to strong arm him into an 8 year deal, which he understandably didn't want to commit to. He suggested and was ready to sign a one year extension for the meantime, which Ashley refused. His contract was up and so he then left.

We all have our opinions and I respect yours but I simply did not enjoy his time at Newcastle and I was genuinely happy to see him leave.

I'm not too sure about what you mean in him contacting Staveley.

It was through his Liverpool connections that he apparently brought Staveley to the table regarding buying Newcastle the first time around in 2017 and Staveley followed up from there again with the current PIF bunch later on after Mike Ashley threw a tantrum and pulled the plug on that first deal.

Do you not worry about Tielemans athleticism especially if he’s asked to play the 6 role?

Id sign him personally to complete the set of the Anderlecht 3 after Mitro and Mbemba from when I worked over there a bit.

I think it would work. Mostly because of how well Howe managed to make it work when Shelvey played there with Joelinton and Bruno at the 8 positions.

  15. I was just reading back on Rafa's comments on what happened and apparently Ashley wanted him to commit to an 8 year contract, sound familiar

Rafa said he wasn't keen because he wasn't happy with them not letting him make decisions on transfers, and so he wanted to sign a one year extension to see how things went, and Ashley then refused.
