Don't get the hate on here for Shelvey tbh, before Howe I can totally understand he was poor and looked disinterested and leggy. Since Howe has came he has been standout for me and putting on a shift and playing good football. He has been back to his best but still seems to get dogs abuse. Big Joe on the other hand has been praised for his form return and rightly so. I think Shelvey will continue to get better and won't do him any harm with more class and legs around him. I know he will never win most over especially on here but I Hope he keeps his spot on the team if he keeps playing like he has been.

People just don't like the guy, which is their right I guess.

I think he has really stepped up his game, and has been a really solid performer this season.

His mobility can sometimes be a weakness, but give him a better midfielder in alongside him that can really get up and down and more actively run the show, and Shelvey can then sit deep, switch play, and occasionally find killer balls from deeper areas when they're on, as well as shoot from distance when that's on also.

A better pair of centre backs will also do a better job of covering for him too. And that is something we appear to be looking to address as well.

yep and he'll have plenty of takers then so why tie yourself down, what I don't get is man utd costing themselves his wages for 5 months and missing out on a reasonable loan fee so get nothing. Now maybe they don't want to do business with us full stop, fair enough but what about other teams surely there must be more takers for him based on his west ham form last season

For Man United the fee will be small change, and so unless they can fleece someone for a significant chunk of money, they won't bother letting him go in Jan.

I think we are the only team even willing to give them anything for him in Jan, since we need him right now due to our situation. Everyone else that likes him is just sitting back waiting to get him on a free in the summer.

Definitely not he will play beside him, Shelvey has been one of our best players since Howe.

Exactly. It will be the pair of them in midfield.

Shelvey sitting deep, alongside Bruno who is more of an all action midfielder.

Think we'll then see Joelinton as the third man in there either as a deep striker/number 10, which is where Howe envisioned using him originally, or as an additional CM in a three as he has been playing.

Still maintain best solution will be we pay 12 million permanently and give him a release clause

    Lingard doesn't want that though.

If he moves without a fee in a few months (even if it is to ultimately join us after a loan for now) he gets a massive signing bonus.

Sorry, its my default position now. I'm sick of being wounded in this transfer window.

    Sick of being wounded

Pull yourself together man, my God

Feel like I've wandered into a parallel universe. Brighton have conceded almost half as many goals as we have, we might pinch one of their starting defenders for £10m and folk are being sniffy about it. Bloody hell. I'm glad I never look at most of the other transfer threads, I only came in here because I thought the price in the thread title was outrageously cheap.

Think it's an FM thing. People love the kind of signings they would make in the game and disregard the more shrewd sensible signings that are not always the continental flashy ones.

The guy is a 6 foot 7 centre back that is mobile and agile enough to feature at leftback/left wing back and get up and down the byline, not to mention the ability on the ball and passing ability to have played that position for a team like Brighton.

Think he's going to look really good playing centre back in Howe's setup. It's such a good move at fantastic value.

Shame in one way, I would really have liked a midfield trio of Bruno, Joe and Carlos....but alas was not to be.

But welcome Dan, hope you're not fucking shite.

Toon supporter, loves Shearer, is fucking massive, has been a regular in a ball-playing team for years now. Aye it's not Botman or Badiashile, but surely an improvement on what we've got?

Absolutely. And if we stay up, he can then transition to more of a squad player/backup to hopefully one of Botman/Badiashile going forward, and we can then move Clark on.

Personally think £10m is a good price for him based on this season's form. I know plenty of people on here don't rate him but I'd rather him that Nat Phillips.

I've always liked him. Really decent athlete for his size, as he's played left back at times for them, which is crazy at 6 foot 7, and he looked very comfortable getting up and down the by line.

Solid signing and great price for a prem experienced left footed centre back coming in from a ball playing side like Brighton.

I think I'd rather offer Guimaraes stupid money to persuade him to come here instead of Arsenal. This lad has all the bite and hunger that Gini would never show for us.

If it did come to a choice between ourselves or Arsenal and he had a preference to go to Arsenal, offering him stupid money would not change his mind. Arsenal hardly pay peanuts.

I don't believe he is Arsenal's priority for the midfield position and so I don't think there will be any need to try and pull of such a stunt anyway.
