Zaha and Pogba are levels above what we have.
If we signed both - we would be serious contenders for top 6.
The fact you actually think it would be worth forking out significant money on a fee for Zaha and wages for Pogba, to sign these two under acheivers, who are both heading into their thirties is actually terrifying.

Well you would be getting a world class striker who would maybe give you 2-3 good seasons which is pretty hard to put a price on. I mean this standard of player is transformational in results terms, you could genuinely beat anyone if you have that type of firepower in your team ( assuming you get someone like Sarr in for £20m in the RW slot).
I doubt we'd do it, but it's not out of the question if you believe we want to be in Europe at the end of THIS campaign.
I don't think they are in such a rush that they are going to bring in anymore expensive older players who would command higher wages, certainly not in a position where we already have two older players.
Europe is also not out of the question without having to sign someone like that anyway, so I just don't see it. The priority, as they have said, is to reduce the age of the squad, and bring in more players that can grow with the club.

Pogba wouldn't come. Zaha would be a great signing to get us into the top 6/8. Better shout than a lot of the wide players we are linked with.
I think Cesc would be great to have around the dressing room. Wouldn't expect him to play much. But we've got loads of filler CM's already.
Man, I just can't believe you would even want to bring any of those to the club man
Cesc to have around the dressing room ... come on man. Stop it.

Man, I couldn't deal with being stuck at 4th choice for Man City and barely playing, knowing I'd be good enough to start games at Chelsea. Tough spot for him. Likely going to cost him a World Cup place.

Would take Cesc for a season.
Of course you fucking would
We need to make sure you never get anywhere near anything to do with recruitment at Newcastle!
Left to you we would have signed Zaha, Pogba and Cesc Fabregas this summer. Goodness sake man

I'd be amazed if that's true. He doesn't fit our target profile at all.
It's actually embarrassing that they can be so clueless. How could we possibly go and sign yet another 30 year old striker. Such a lazy link from someone that's not paid any attention to what the club is doing. Awful stuff. Just throwing out made up articles for clicks.

Based off of last season’s form I’d go Dennis as well; seems like he just glides across the pitch megging players left and right. For a rumoured 20m, that’d great business imo.
Honestly though if we can’t land our top targets, any of those 3 would greatly improve us (and without breaking the bank).
Yeah, Dennis plays with the most flair out of the three for sure.
Very surprisingly, I was also just looking at their stat breakdowns on fbref, and Dennis is also the best at pressing, tackling and interceptions. In fact his defensive numbers are really good. I'm sure Howe absolutely loves that. Think it's a big part of why he likes Harrison who has exceptional pressing/defensive stats.

Jacobs saying we’re considering Dennis and that apparently Howe prefers him to Cornet . Interesting if true.
Out of Dennis, Sarr and Cornet who would you prefer?
Good question. Think it would have to be Dennis.
He is the youngest of the three, and crucially he seems to be the most durable too. His number of goals and assists were also fantastic right out of the gate, first time in the league, for a team that was generally really poor going forward.
He can be a bit of a malcontent when he isn't pleased about something though, but I think Howe has the right kind of temperament and personality to manage those kind of instances, so I don't anticipate that being as much of an issue.

Exactly, going into a season not expecting relegation for once is good enough for me.This where I'm at too. Can't believe I'm just going to be able to enjoy every single game for a full season
Having said that I believe Howe is going to shock the hell out of a lot of people. He's going to do it without us having bought a bunch of high profile players like most fans of other clubs expected, and like so many people imagine we'll need to in order to compete for the European places. And it is all going to be very satisfying.

What has happened to them? Aouar was heavily courted by Arsenal 12-18 months ago and I'm pretty sure Brandt was previously linked to Iiverpool.
Think they both haven't quite maintained those previous levels. Those two teams also have a lot of attacking midfield talents, and so they haven't quite had the luxury of just continuing to play all the time.
Aouar is also now entering the final year of his contract. Brandt has a couple more years left, but they're just ready to move him on now it seems, as I think he wants to be more of a key player in a consistent position.
I still like both of them a lot though, and think they'd be great for us right now, but we don't seem to be looking at those types.

Just trying to compute your first sentence.
"As a back up for both wings he'd have played regularly". It's such a contradiction.
Anyway, it's a pointless discussion as I doubt leeds will sell for less than 35m and can't see us paying that (which is a good thing because he's worth 25m tops).
Yes, I think that's where the problem lies. We have a very different definition of what playing regularly means.
A squad player that would be one of the first people off the bench, and who would start a good number of games due to squad rotation to rest first teamers, as well as also in cases where there are injuries, is someone that plays regularly IMO.
It seems you see that as someone who barely gets any game time though, which I disagree with. So for me someone who barely gets any game time is a fringe player that only plays as an emergency situation, so like Dwight Gayle for us!
-
I cannot believe that this summer both Aouar and Brandt are available for less than £20 million.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear we are looking for this type of midfielder.

3 minutes ago, PlymouthGeordie said:
Agree to disagree but I'd say suggesting someone who would start the majority of games on the bench would get plenty of minutes is the silly conclusion.
As stated, he's a good player but he'd cost too much for where he could take us in my opinion.
As a backup for both wings he would have played regularly there. You said he would barely feature. No chance.
£25 million at the very highest for me personally, otherwise we shouldn't be looking at that move.

I'm not shuffling.
He'd be a bench warmer at all of them, it's obvious.
You claimed he would barely get any game time. I think I've shown why that claim is a silly one.
You're entitled to hold on to that assertion if you want though. That's fine.

Big man, what is your point?
Never mind. You clearly weren't even following what myself and Plymouth Geordie were talking about, so God knows why you started harping on about Pepe.

Just now, The College Dropout said:
Aye but Arsenal aren’t in for Harrison now. And neither will any top 6 side.
My God ... that wasn't anything to do with the discussion.
So by your logic any players that aren't actively being pursued by a top 6 club, are therefore not top 6 players, and are incapable of featuring for them?
I'm out man. Peace and blessings.

Pepe is legit on the outskirts of the Arsenal first team. He’s like their 14th man.
they are actively trying to replace him.
Yes, he was awful last season, which is why they stopped using him altogether pretty much.
I bet if they had Harrison instead of him, Harrison would have played far more often so Bukayo could have got more of a rest on that side, which most Arsenal fans were increasingly concerned about.
So the idea he would barely get any playing time for a top 6 side is a nonsense.

We can, I think you need to watch some of the videos covering FFP in relation to Newcastle. Honestly man people need to chill out, we still have 6 weeks of the window to go.It was always going to take more patience landing players at the top end of the pitch, as those are often the most sought after. Teams will likely start being more reasonable later on, just depends on how much we are prioritising getting players in ahead of the start of the season.

Pepe didn't start a single game from January onwards and Elanga got game time largely because of the Greenwood situation.
Harrison is good, just not top 6 good.
Don't start shuffling and making excuses man
You've now thrown in a Pepe caveat about him not starting a single game and a weak Mason Greenwood excuse.
You said he would barely get any playing time at any of those clubs, and that just wasn't the fact you made it out to be.

Tell me which of the top 6 teams he'd get regular game time at then...
City and Liverpool are a right off immediately.
Spurs have Son, Richarlison and Kuluveski as their wide options.
Arsenal are blessed with Martinelli and Saka.
Chelsea now have Sterling, Havertz, Mount and Pulusic who all play in the forward positions.
It only leaves Man Utd and even they have Rashford and Sancho who were admittedly poor last year but possess more ability than Harrison.
Nicolas Pepe got regular game time at Arsenal and so he would have definitely got game time over there.
Chelsea have continuously rotated a myriad of wide men, because they don't seem to have any consistency from those areas, and his numbers better most of theirs in a much lesser team, so I imagine he would get playing time there too.
Man Utd ended up having to use Anthony Elanga a fair bit last season, so he would certainly get minutes in that team too, because again their wide players have been very inconsistent.

I hear you, but I was just saying for me if I had that talent, and knowing I was good enough to be a main guy at Chelsea, and most other teams really, I'd not be happy with that. He knew what the situation was going over there though, so he has to live with it.
