  1. Steve Bruce took a calculated risk on a petulant Hatem Ben Arfa after an exasperated Alan Pardew finally gave up and threw him on United’s scrapheap.

However it backfired and Bruce used an escape clause in his loan agreement to also get rid this month.

“What a dreadful waste of real talent,” sighed Steve. “It’s criminal because the lad can play all right but I must question how much he is in love with the game.

“I took a chance on Ben Arfa because I knew of his ability and I felt he could give us something different but it never worked out.

“Honestly in his last game for us against Manchester United our goalkeeper ran about more than him. I had to sub him early because I needed sweat and fight in our position and I wasn’t getting it.

“To be great you have to be a team player not an individual.

He doesn't 'run about' enough for our Bruce.

  2. Why did we loan Lejeune out? Really don’t get it.

To make way for another centre back Bruce prefers.

Bruce likes his more old school aggressive centre backs.

Lascelles, Fernandez and Clark are the only three we have of that ilk.

  3. And for what it's worth he played under one of the best managers, and for a champion's league team, where he was a main fixture.

I'm thinking maybe we shouldn't throw him on the rubbish heap just yet, as our brilliant manager clearly isn't the sharpest tool in the box.

You folks were the same ones that were ridiculing Almiron not too long ago, and now you all love him.

Ahem, I never rubbished Almiron as his quality is obvious to anyone.

He was also bought by a manager for a specific reason, to fit into a team and was scouted extensively (and opinions from people that knew him sought).

This clown was bought by Ashley to calm the masses as an expensive signing. Not really for footballing reasons.

There is no comparison between the 2.

All I know is a lot of people were on Almiron's back when he was initially being played in a position he was not as accustomed to.

He was moved, his performances improved and now he is one of the favourites in the team.

Joelinton was not bought as an expensive signing to calm the masses, that is ridiculous. MA does not care about the masses at all.

MA wanted him because he has asked the scouting team to identify younger players with potentially large re-sale values. This has been what he continually pushes for, it was the same with all of the French talent we kept bringing in, or Mitrovic etc etc.

The scouting team had very high marks for Joelinton regarding this remit, and MA wanted him brought to the club.

  5. No one is trying to shoehorn him into the team. I don't know why people keep saying this.

All that has been said is that at some point it would be nice to see him used how he was at his previous club that led to the top scout reports and the spending of £40 million on him. It's basic common sense really.

When Almiron was being played on the right side under Bruce and looking poor there and being called a headless chicken who couldn't finish, what turned it around was him eventually being moved to playing off the front man where he had done well in the MLS. In the MLS he either played off the front or on the left. He had also looked good on the left under Rafa. For whatever reason Bruce in his infinite wisdom came in and was using him on the right, and he was being fast tracked to the 'he is shite, get rid' pile.

This whole thing is just getting ridiculous now, but whatever. Best case scenario he just gets a good club and leaves. Even worse than the managers mismanagement of the player is the fans haste to completely write off the player.

  6. It can't be a coincidence that all of these PFMs were former centre backs or try hard midfielders.

They'll talk out of the side of their mouths about attacking football, but deep down they want to fill their teams with clones of themselves to prove some sort of point or something.

Probably spent their whole careers resenting the adulation the 'lazy flair players' got.

  7. Wonder who we're loaning him to?

I assume Kaka already knows that this player is the dogs bollocks so hopefully we don't loan him out.

I know that unless he grows to 6 ft 5 in the next few days his career is about to be over.

  8. It's actually depressing man. I saw the video you mentioned.

There are also numerous scouting articles from his time in Germany that talk about the type of player he is and even some talking about what Newcastle would be getting and how to get the best of him after we had bought him.

They are all very positive and speak of the qualities he can bring in the right setup and of his big potential to get even better. I can only imagine how baffled they are in Germany at our incompetence.

It's funny because the same thing is happening to an even better player at West Ham, in Haller, who a lot of people on here wanted last summer. He is getting destroyed by another PFM in Moyes, who is playing a 30 year old converted winger upfront instead of him and then complaining about needing funds for players.

The same guy had Felipe Anderson and Lanzini on the bench while playing a midfield of Rice, Noble and Soucek against us. Three holding midfielders. Against a Newcastle United side that hasn't exactly been a swash buckling attacking outfit under Bruce.

It's just so pathetic really

  9. Agree with you and would love to see that also. Almost certain we never will.

He'll keep playing Carroll ahead of him, who has been even less of a goal threat since he came back.
