  1. If we are expecting players like Perez and Mutu to light up the Premier league, I think we are being slightly delusional. You get what you pay for at the end of the day, and we haven't spent much on either of them when you look at today's market. Until we actually spend some proper money on strikers, Perez is still probably our best forward, although I haven't seen Mutu yet, maybe he'll turn out to be a lot better than the £9m fee would suggest.

Bro, his name is Muto

Can I ask did you expect Kenedy to perform like he did for us last season? How about Diame once moved to midifield?

You absolutely do not always get what you pay for.

How do Palace feel about Benteke right now?

How do Leicester feel having £25m Iheanacho on the bench every week? How about £15m Musa never starting games? And then being shipped out on loan?

There are absolutely no guarantees based on the fee. You can end up spending vast amounts on a player that osn't that good, or you may actually have a good player, but with a manager who has no clue.

I firmly believe that with Rafa in charge anyone he brings in will perform at their very best and will do very well for us.

  2. If we sell Mitro for £22m and replace him with fucking Rondon I can't describe how livid I'll be, like.

They better have someone else lined up.

Maybe we end up getting Josh King now?

  3. Looks like he'll get the numbers he needs. It's not the calibre he ideally wants, due to the sell to buy stipulation until he signs, but for now I thin it will just about suffice.

I think after the window talks will continue, the team will be doing well, and he will ultimately sign. MA knows he's got something very good, and he'll get it done.

  4. MA tried a power play by restricting purchases to a 'sell to buy' policy until Rafa signed.

Rafa pulled a bigger power play and said fine I'll sell to buy and won't sign until I am satisfied. Let's talk after the window.

All the pressure is on MA now. I'm betting the team is going to do well even with these restrictions this window, and MA will have to do what is necessary to extend Rafa.

  5. Think it's been stated that we are operating on a sell to buy basis until Rafa signs a new contract. All our moves so far seem to confirm this.

Seemingly Rafa was fine to go ahead with that for now and not sign until all his assurances were met in further discussions after the window closes.

Think Mike thought he could pressure him into signing up, by only releasing funds if he did, but Rafa took on the challenge of the sell to buy approach, and will not sign up until he is satisfied with all the terms. Academy and training pitch improvements included.

  6. Really like this guy's profile as a player. Still young enough for a centre back to improve too.

Think it will prove to be a really good signing in a similar vein to LeJeune, but at an even greater value for money.

  7. Kaka been on to tell us we’ll be surprised just how good this lad will be?

Looking forward to how silly so many of you are going to look tbh.

Where did Burnley finish in the league last year again?

While The likes of Stoke, Southampton and Everton where buying and buying all the fancy 'names'.

    We will see.

  8. Hasn't this fella just been relegated from La Liga?

3m release clause FFS wonder how far down the list he waa

You and your lists man. My goodness

What am I missing? Isn't that what Rafa has said?

Nope. Rafa has said nothing about where anyone is on his list.

Yes. But Rafa has said that the more time passes the harder it is to get the players at the top of his list.

Not sure what's wrong or funny with him wondering how far down this guy was?

We have an established pairing at centre back that is very good.

We just signed an international that played in the world cup to come in as the third centre back and challenge the two that start.

Why would anyone wonder how far down the list he is? Who exactly where you guys expecting to come in as a third centre back?

Looks a really good signing to me. Certainly more than I was expecting for that position. All things considered.

Some people are just happy with anything. We should be buying a lad to play alongside the captain and push Lejeune down thats what majes squad's better There's no way Rafa has thought hey the lad I really want is that Schar who is at Deportivo La Coruna. This so smacks of desperation

Its like wanting to buy a Ferrari and having to make do with a Vauxhall Corsa

Okay. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. We'll see how it all plays out.

When we finish above Fulham, Wolves, Brighton et al. I will come for you!

When Stoke were splashing the money last summer it sure did look impressive, but it all meant nothing in the end.

    We will see.

    You're an absolute divvy.

Sell a centre half for £5-6m. Buy another who arguably is little to no improvement and does not significantly improve the first team for £3.5m, thus (Ashley) pocketing a couple of mil change (we'll never see).

You wouldn't mind if it was an isolated example, and yes it is an OK business dealing, but we're still in the EXACT same position we were in before Mbemba left.

So yes, let's not spend any money - look what Stoke done and it clearly didn't work out for them! Thank the lord Mike Ashley is here to stop us from making their mistakes by keeping the money for himself! 3 cheers for Mike! You absolute divvy.

I'm not a divvy. I'm just thinking rationally.

We are not in the same position because Rafa did not rate/trust Mbemba at centre back, and clearly did not want to use him there.

He now has a 4th centre back he will actually use and who he likes no matter where he is on his list.

Why do people want to go out and spend a lot of money on a position where we are so stable.

    This is ridiculous.

  9. I think Kaka's on the take, personally.

    Ha! I wish

I just really rate our manager, and I'd bet on him even with players lower down his list than these other managers splashing the cash.

We just need to get him the numbers he needs and we'll be good.

It''s not ideal that we cannot get him his top options, but I don't think all the player's we are getting are going to be completely useless either.

I am still excited to see what Rafa can do even in these conditions.

  11. unwanted defender moves out, 3rd choice moves down to 4th choice and a new signing to challenge a partnership that has proven to be very solid.

Not fussed on the price. Lejeune proved to be better than similar signings like Hoedt last year despite being cheaper. Schar seems similar to that. If he didn't have a release clause he'd be costing a lot more.

The problem isn't this kind of signing, it's that we aren't doing enough of this kind of signing. We should have used Hayden wanting to leave to replace him with another midfielder to challenge our main two

I feel like because other clubs are throwing money around, every move that isn't a big fee is now ridiculed.

It''s just not right to look at things that way.

I mean look at Lascelkes and LeJeune who we all love now. What did they cost?

  14. Chelsea say Tammy Abraham can be had for 'around £15 million'

Now that would be great business IMO.

    He's shit.

This is why we never get nice things

Kenedy was 'shit' last year too apparently.

Just because he hasn't broken through yet, does not make him 'shit'.

Such a simple way of looking at things.

No, Kenedy had a very good half-season for us when he was here. Abraham had a full, shit season at Swansea. He hardly improved their fortunes and couldn't get a game ahead of Jordan Ayew because he wasn't good enough, so why would he change ours?

If Tammy Abraham is your idea of 'nice things' you unfortunately have had your expectations dampened that much by Mike Ashley that you see that as "great business". I would argue that's an even more simple way of looking at things.

Kenedy had done nothing in the league whatsoever before joining us, and a good few said it was a desperate signing and he was rubbish. Rafa rated him though.

Now everyone loves him and is upset that the club won't pay £30 million for him.

The same manager Rafa rates Abraham the same way, and actually prioritised him last summer as the striker to bring in early and straight away. Didn't he skip a wedding or somethign to go and see Abraham to convince him? Something barmy like that anyway.

I'd rather trust Rafa's judgement thank you very much. He was at Chelsea and knows a lot about those young players. I have no doubt Abraham would be a fantastic signing at that price, and Rafa would get the most out of him.

I mean ... I find this all so ridiculous. It's such short sighted thinking to be writing that player off, but you go ahead.

  15. It's incredible how badly most of those have turned out.

When you don't have a manger that knows what he is doing having a bunch of money is so pointless.

We on the other hand have an amazing manager and won't give him even a fraction of that amount, which is all he'd even need.

    God help us man.

  16. Kenedy was quite unproven, some people thought he was shit simply because he hadn't gotten any game time.  In this case the players had game time and he's about as prolific a goal scorer as Joselu..  I mean he might improve a lot but right now he's a bit shit like.

I'd bet on him doing really well under Rafa due to his major success in the Championship, his fantastic physical attributes and his pedigree. Not to mention the fact Rafa rates him.

I certainly would not be writing him off after a season at Swansea where most players underperformed, he wasn't played consistently and they changed managers.

Think it would actually be very smart to get him now when he is being overlooked due to the circumstances last year.

No point waiting till he does well again and everyone wants him , and then we have no chance. Similar to what happened with Loftus-Cheek last year.
