I agree but I think McClaren would've got just as much stick for playing Mbemba LB and starting Lascelles.
But he had limited options. I think it would have made perfect sense. He had to play Lascelles anyway right?
Besides Aarons starting today seemed very optimistic, especially ahead of Perez, and in a wing back position.
Really disappointed in the manager today. All the time we were stinking it up earlier int he season he never tried this system, and now we had put together some good performances he starts messing about with it.
Mbemba had never played FB before he came here. I would've had him there today, tbh.

I just got in and have been catching up. Very surprised he changed the setup to a 3-5-2. Particularly as it meant dropping someone who just scored last week. Also we lost to them in the cup playing this system. It seems very forced.

So angry about today.
So we finally start putting together decent performances with the 4-2-3-1 setup, culminating in a great performance and result last week, and then he goes and changes the system, and drops a player that scored last week also?!
Sorry but he absolutely had to play Chancel at full back and introduce either Lascelles or Taylor alongside Colo, and leave everything else as it was.
All on the manager today IMO. Terrible team selection from the outset.

I had a look earlier. 11 goals and 8 assists in 25 games this season. Left midfield, attacking midfield or right midfield. Takes a mean set piece.

The good thing is I do recall admiring him for his desire and effort, so I'm sure he'll be useful, and could potentially improve once he gets playing.
Due to injuries at the time he got thrown straight into the team and was alone upfront in one of Pards terrible setups that left the striker incredibly isolated.
He did have some strength, athleticism and pace, and these are allvery useful attributes in this league. We see it time and time again.

Looking forward to seeing him in a non Pardew team. Especially now we've added the likes of Gini, Shelvey and Mitro.
Hopefuly the time out as allowed him to settle at the club and taken the spotlight and pressure off him a bit.
Just 25 still, and I think he deserves more appearances to show what he can do.
