If he's already stable financially, has a mortgage paid off etc and a good amount of money in the bank, why wait around, especially if he hates playing the sport every single day? He's still young enough to do whatever he wants right now, whereas by the time he's 35, possibly married with kids, he might not be able to pursue whatever he wants to do. Fair enough, but he'll regret it at some point I'm sure, never going to find such an easy way to make money.

Why would anyone quit though? You get paid more than most other jobs, and you only have to do it until you're what, 35? Would be more sensible to just stick it out, earn shit loads of cash and then do what you really want to after you retire before you're even 40.
