Probably brings something alongside a manager that isn't a useless arsehole
-
Yeah, Leeds only got 1 fit CB. He's a lucky fucking cunt in many respects, often faces teams at just the right time when he needs it.

Would love to see an honest conversation on MotD or somewhere, maybe even Sky tonight, with someone simply asking why the only manager we've been universally behind (more or less) since Pardew came in was Rafa? Would love to hear that discussion with a Souness or Shearer and someone that knows what they're fucking talking about.

Love the Hayden thing You can just imagine him like

I mean I didn't see any of his Molde games but this doesn't remotely fit with what I've seen at manyoo; well I suppose it does if you accept it's being executed poorly and aimlessly. As I stated in the post you quoted I can see what's probably supposed to be happening (as I could with McLaren, Pardew and so on at our place), it's just not really executed well enough to a level that is going to see them challenging and winning the PL over the likes of Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea unless their individuals go nuts. I could see it working if they'd addressed their need for a dominant CM that can take over games (Rice perhaps) but they didn't.

I mean that's his job right, to get the balance

We sat deep with structure and you struggled to open us up as you do with other teams that play that way (Palace last year rings a bell). You needed a deflection to go ahead, after which we created by far the better opportunities and could have arguably been in front, then you were gifted another from our keeper before we collapsed. If you think you played great in that first hour I think you've got problems personally. In the end you deserved to win convincingly yes. I'm not delving into the possession stats in detail but you've played 3/4 shite teams in fairness and really it's what you do with it when you get it, which is why I said controlled possession. I see a difference in how the other top teams play when they get the ball to the way you do; reminds me a bit of seeing what Benitez was trying to achieve with us vs. what had come before him. They play with a structure, plan and intensity that you don't when you've got the ball. Anyway I'm sure we've done this dance before and I'm sure I'm wrong and you'll be just fine

Personally wasn't referring to last night. You spanked Leeds because they play the perfect game for Solksjaer's "style", couldn't beat Southampton though I didn't see much so won't comment, struggled badly against Wolves from what I saw, and we had your number for more than half the match before falling apart inc. two goalkeeping blunders. It's clear to anyone watching your style isn't developing from the basic plan he had when he took over, that's the point not an isolated result with a red card. You've added enough amazing players to beat most teams but will likely fall short when it matters for the reasons stated. This season you should start transitioning to a possession game and try to start controlling matches the way Chelsea & MC do but he's not got the nouse or balls to do it (perhaps because it'll mean some bad results along the way).

We finished 5th under Pardew you know.

He's done well, better than I thought he'd do personally, steadied the ship and helped them progress but anyone that thinks they're going to progress to prem or CL winners under him is deluded af imo. Liverpool (Klopp pressing), Citeh (Pep possession), Chelsea (sound defence strong possession game) are different leagues to what Manyoo are playing. You could perhaps even argue Leicester tbh. They're a glorified version of us under Bruce or Pardew; chuck them out there and hope one of the stars does something to turn the game. There's no style or substance to the way they play whatsoever, beyond counter-attacking but that's not even done using a high press or anything progressive. Even Bruce showed that up for 60 minutes or whatever when we played them which should really worry people.

It's about a dull, godawful procession to the knockout stages where it gets interesting to varying degrees. I switch on at the quarters/semis usually. No need to watch anything before that, ever.

what the christ

Found it odd how strong we were in the back end of games late last season, not really sure that was fitness related as such though seemed to be we were behind in games or got our backs up and the adrenaline carried us.

I'll agree to curb the one line responses if you agree to curb the rambling, fantastical bullshit agreed? Nice doing business with you.

Least he's honest there for a fucking change.

You say potato...

This is my exact thought, they made a big deal about him having a look and he did but his motion was to try and plant his foot between himself and the player to get in front. Fornals just went for the ball and it looked like a stamp as a result. Perez wasn't actually trying to touch the ball. Can see why it was given but I'd have made it a last chance yellow on review personally.

According to Celtic fans I work with he was going there but it fell apart due to him wanting a load of coaches or something and Celtic refusing to give him the lot.
-
Funny that, that's just what I was thinking this morning about him and I don't think I've realised that's what I've disliked about him until just now. That's the undercurrent he can't hide when he speaks, there's an arrogance there that's not concealed because he's not smart enough to do it.
-
You can say what you like about Ashley not sacking managers but if he goes on an insane losing run in the first 10 games I reckon he'll be away one way or another.
-
You need a legit CM, it's been as clear as day for a very long time, someone who can take the ball and thread a pass into your stacked forward line when under pressure. In that last 15-20 minutes Southampton could just press high because they know how slow and ponderous your CMs are. Sancho ain't gonna fix this and you've got a great CF in Greenwood. He's a lunatic if he doesn't give Donny a shot now imo. Oh and leave Martial where he is on the coast, absolutely godawful.

i - i mean sure b - it's potentially a steal, i'll give you that, if he starts to produce from the outside looking in he just looks like another player that they already have, not a proper CM, not a classic striker, not a classic winger...if arteta's idea is to go mini pep and just play a team of AM's then fair enough
