arsenal winning it would be one of the finest moments in world football
-
Trying to remember if I saw him last year, but haven't a clue. So no does it matter if anyones seen an 18 year old prospect play? you have to presume that the people being paid big wages have watched him enough to see potential you think arsenal fans are sitting there saying "arsene's signed an 18 year old from timbuktu...anyone seen him play?" I don't think that was the original point of the question. It would be nice if someone could tell us a little about him though, so at least we can debate on the subject? point stands then

wasn't that rumoured to be why he didn't bid for baines in the summer? what and then play n'zogbia at left back who is 5'7"? rumoured...and to suggest it makes no sense suggests you missed allardyce's managerial tenure Just pointing out that it would foolish for him to suggest Baines shouldn't be here cause he is short, then play someone who is the same height in N'Zogbia. But he didn't sign N'Zogbia and I doubt he saw him as the long-term LB solution. He was playing N'Zogbia because he likes to ease foreign signings into the side rather than throwing them in at the deep end and he saw N'Zogbia as the best option at left-back in the meantime. then why not sign Baines and keep N'Zogbia on the wing! Because he wanted a taller left back..... i remember the talk at the time was about tall full backs...might have just been fuelled by his nicky hunt fascination though!! anyways he signed beye and enrique in the end both taller than baines

Really? Why is that? I just don't understand it. I mean, surely we're all following the same cause? Well before forums became popular, it was very much a case of 'their way or the highway' when it came to independent internet coverage of events at SJP. This place isn't independent though is it? Mort has N-O in his pocket blowing cool air over his ball sack. I'm fairly sure I'm going to get whooshed here, but what the hell is that meant to mean? I think he's saying that he reckons the Board have an influence over the editorial policy of this website. I'm unsure about the whooshedness of that statement myself though. wow, i'm intruiged by this, i really really am...how can i make that sound not sarcastic? the strength of happy face's comment tells me he knows something mind blowing It's all common knowledge. Mort contacted every single major Newcastle website or fanzine, and met with representatives from all, including us, .com, True Faith over tea and biscuits, listened to some comments on general operational questions such as questions about the Box Office, ticket allocations, and then took email addresses so that club representatives can ask questions as and when they have them. They've contacted us twice since to ask about ticket allocations away at Chelsea and Brum. Nothing sinister. ah righto, live out the uk now so although i hear the "mort builds bridges with fans" stuff i kinda stupidly took it be him wandering down northumberland st and asking the first person in a toon shirt what they think! -

I agree, and I wish I had a quid for every time I've defended him to people on this The point about England is that people slate the likes of Hoddle and McLaren for not walking out and clinging on for their money. They can't have it both ways. Keegan showed huge bottle to stand in front of the camera, resign and tell everyone that he'd done his best and hoped someone else could do better. The only reason he will walk is if the board don't back him or someone sticks their nose into transfers. And if either of those things happen, then sadly he is justified and personally I wouldn't blame him in the slightest my memory is shot and you guys seem to remember everything but when keegan left us i honestly recall he'd gone as far as he could go the man u league season broke him, it really did...can't quite remember if it was his last game (think it was though) but i remember standing at charlton away (fa cup? that memory...!) and we were never in it, we were on a downward spiral that kk couldn't have got us out of dalglish finished us 2nd but that was largely new manager syndrome keegan walked under the auspices of the board but i always thought he knew he'd reached his peak himself...with england he was convinced by others he could still work the magic but at the end of the day was working in the lower divisions, he's never worked the magic since maybe he had reached his peak mate. Maybe that momentum was something that will never be repeated. Maybe it was a complete one off. Nowt can take it away though, we have the club that we have now because of him. Even what Bobby Robson did was built from the remnants of the bricks that Keegan put into place. Nobody's matched him. I personally can't wait for the day someone does, hopefully it will be him again though because nobody deserves to be manager of a successful NUFC more. oh, hey, don't get me wrong...i was there for almost the whole keegan period and it was perhaps the finest time of my life, i'm one of the people who loves the "i'd love it comment" 'cause it encapsulated the feeling at the time; i'd been at the leeds match we won that night and we all felt the same - fuck the world, fuck man u, we're having this the post was about walking away and painted kk in a VERY positive light...i was trying to balance that a bit is all it broke my heart when he came back in a sense 'cause i honestly believe he's doomed to fail here again - nothing, i repeat NOTHING would give me greater pleasure than to see him prove me wrong though -

I reckon hacks scour boards like this for a whiff of discontentment then make up "club source" stories that cater to them. maybe so...i'd personally argue people calling national football phone ins and voicing discontent would spread a negative view of the club far easier that's all i'm saying I guess that's why they had a pop at those too. repeats self - at the start i said i could see the picking at phone ins but not so much message boards, my opinion you read any of their match reports recently? very subjective and negative as the defeats mount...as one of the most well known fan sites about they're hardly helping are they if websites have such an effect? There's very little in the match reports I find to disagree with. The s**** ratio with this place must be 99:1 i didn't say there was anything to disagree with did i? i'm paraphrasing here 'cause i can't be arsed to look them up but phrases such as "continued our seemingly unstoppable slide into oblivion" are subjective, not objective reporting on the matches if they're calling for bunker mentalities and to drop the negativity then maybe they should start at home -
correct me if i'm wrong but villareal play a rigid sort of organised system, very continental, with defensive mids giving a lot of protection to their defence? i'm fairly sure they're not an out and out attacking team where the full backs bomb up and down creating goals then getting back etc etc...ala sevilla under ramos that being true put a player who flourished in that system in our team - outcome?

Many on Boards such as this spout off about the club without even havig seen the games, never mind GOING. Is that ok? read my post, you'll see my point - as metal fingers says it's about bunker mentality...if negative stuff (regardless of being at the game or not) is getting broadcast about on the radio/tv it's going to make it much easier for the media etc...to build up the crisis talk writing on message boards is unlikely to contribute to that anywhere near as much, is what i was saying personally i'd not comment on a match i'd not seen in some way shape or form 'cause it's fucken stupid to do so -

i can see the point about phone ins like...they're heard by people who don't necessarily know anything about the club/team/city and get taken as a yardstick of opinion for any club in "crisis" as johnnypd says some regulars are thick as shit, yet the thick as shit ones seem to be the ones with the irrepressible urge to call up 30 seconds after a defeat and call for the managers head can't see the same parrallels with writing on MB's...people have to seek it out and those that do are likely to see a more balanced set of opinions -
Had a better season than any of our s****! Pompy have had a better season than us. He's been decent, not as good as the year before, and i reckon next season we'll see the same kind of drop again. Distin's pace rescues him and them quite a bit, we don't have that in any of our defenders. I still think think he'd be better than our current crop next season... although take your point that he will no doubt decline a bit more. Just would fancy Faye & Campbell at the back, both surely would protect us from set pieces very much. Hyypia was tipped to be a fring player this year, yet he's played 20 league games and 10 champions league games. Still think Campbell has somthing to offer and is possible to get... it's actually quite difficult to think of players we can get from EPL because a lot of clubs who we could buy from, are doing so much better than us. as far as CB's go i'd prefer it if we sent our highly paid new scouting team off to find us one who we haven't been linked with conssistently over the past 3-4 seasons there's a wide wide world of footballers out there and if we look past sol campbell and sami hyppia (and the cast offs from the "big 4" ) we could actually get one who is good, the right age and not costing a fortune in wages/fees is someone telling me there's not a CB in germany or italy, for example that we could scout and sign within the next 2-3 months? 'cause there has to be Oh I totally agree that there are players outside of England which could fit the profile, but in my original post I stated Campbell in my list of targets because I was only looking at the EPL for players, I don't see enough football from Germany or Italy to give a decent suggestion from outside Premier League. neither do i, but they exist...i'm sure if you and i were paid millions a year to find them we could too?!!!!

Distin's pace rescues him and them quite a bit, we don't have that in any of our defenders. speaking of pompey, the type of midfielder they've got their CM packed with is what we should be targetting; big, athletic, strong bastards with pace and stamina who can get up and down the pitch and dominate teams especially away from home they struggle at home as none of those players are creative as such, i'd arrest that by signing a bearsdley-esque player to play up front with another striker (owen or martins would do) i really think that's the way we need to go...buying a CM like alonso/gerrard or whoever would cost the earth and they wouldn't come, doing it this way would protect the defence too which we so depserately need Height as well. We really could do with some aerial prowess in the centre, we've had none since Speed left and it shows. We get no goals from mid players at set pieces and the ball sails over the heads of our short arse mids and straight to or back to the opposition. Strength, pace and power as well? That's a lot of requirements for one player, hope we can find him. harry did OK getting all of his on decent fees...to be honest i'd take diop and muntari as our starting CM's next season in a heartbeat there'll be a couple more africans knocking about out there who fulfill those requirements and all i reckon... to be honest it's more a point about how we set up next season, i strongly believe if we try and play 2 strikers and a 'playmaking' CM we'll be just as bad...there aren't many playmaking midfielders who can compete physically these days so i'd go for a couple as mentioned above but ensure the creativity comes form the wings and the as yet unidentified beardsley type player we're a soft touch, it's something that we really can't afford to be next season or the rot might set in early on

He signed some very good players for us. He should've we were the 2nd best team in the country, one of the richest in the world and in the Champion's League. and those players still took us from that position to mid-table. given time i'm sure he'd have done better but he did a poor job short-term. The football we played under Dalglish was atrocious. He did make some good signings in Given, Solano, Hamman (for that 1 season) but made some equally bad signings like the jobs for the boys (Rush, Barnes, his son etc), Des Hamilton, Andreas Andersson, Lionel Perez...... falling out with Ginola, selling Ferdinand and replacing them sub standard players. Everyone goes on about him taking us to 2nd place in the CL, but that was with Keegans team. The season after was his team......the one where we performed so miserably, playing largely boring negative football and finishing 13th. Hardly his fault Ferdinand was sold though. i'm no apologist for dalglish but to underestimate the effect losing shearer had is to do him a massive disservice - was the best striker in europe at the time and would have affected everything maassively

consider your season if you'd not won the milk cup!! an utter travesty basically given the amount of cash you've been spending of late and number of players bought...still, you did, so i'll shut up Been a good season since Ramos took over in October. In the bottom 3 in the Premier League, looked doubtful we would progress from the Uefa Cup group stage after the defeat by Getafe, it's been good since then. True, we've spent a lot of money and will spend a lot more in the summer, but Ramos hasn't had a lot of time to shape the team as he wants it. granted, granted....was just saying how different your (the fans) outlook would have been had you not won the cup, six points above us is not a good season!

mrmojorisin75 replied to a topic in Football
I can see the point the original poster makes. His previous does suggest he could walk and the potential for embarrassing defeats against Brum and Fulham is definately there! think it's a question that will only be worthy of asking next season if we're in any similar sort of position keegan will stay regardless this season as he'll always be able to claim "it's not my team" like every other manager we've had since he left the first time (as always, bobby excepted) this ignores the rumoured financial need for keegan to want to stay at the club as i think he'll geniunely believe he's the man for the job - as bobyule says though, he's shown little to suggest he is so far
