  1. So, basically he's saying that everything in this history of the club prior to his taking over has sucked, including the players that are currently in the squad that he didn't sign.

Nice one. I'm sure that's going to instill a lot of confidence in the players.

Can someone please show him the door.

  2. Jol, your as much use talking about Newcastle than Alan Hansen is talking about England, feck off.

Someone asked a question about Tottenham, genius. Don't understand what some people have against him. Interesting to hear things from a non-Toon fan on here.

Agreed. And in the short time that I've been posting here, I've never seen Jol post anything that's been anti-Newcastle or disrespectful.

  3. It seems we're linked with every player out there and it never comes to pass. These are just two of many players that we'll talk about until the day before the end of the next transfer window, when Roeder will sign a couple players we had never considered on loan.

Sorry about the pessimism, but I'll believe it when they're actually signed.

  4. Put against that, he has gone missing but still has a good attitude, he likes to score, he is a bit greedy, which is good, but I don't like the fact he goes missing, too much. Again, better players around him may cure that, because he has other good points. We will see. I wouldn't write him off or sell him, I would want to see him playing before deciding. If I was watching him I would think he is worth a try and buy him on this basis but consider it slightly risky, and so far as you say he is now our main man and Roeder did well to spot him, however that position could easily change if someone better comes along or Owen committed himself to Newcastle and we find they are not compatible playing together.

Agreed, but I'm convinced he has proven himself and will continue to get better. I think a lot of his problem is the rest of the team and the coaching.

  5. James ----------------------

    G. Neville ---- Terry --- Ferdinand --- A. Cole

    ---------------------  Gerrard  ----------------------

    Lennon -----------  Rooney---------------- J. Cole

    ------------Owen ---------------Crouch

Subs: Woodgate, Richards, Dyer, Lampard, Johnson

Personally, I think Rooney is more suited to an  attacking-mid role than as a striker. I don't see anything wrong with the current crop of defenders, but England need quicker, more attacking side.

  6. When we lost to Fulham at home, the starting line-up was:Given/Carr,Moore,Bramble,Ramage/Duff,Parker,Emre,N'Zogbia/Ameobi,Martins.On the bench were Butt,Solano and Sibierski.

Did injury play a part in this pathetic result?Apart from Babayaro(tbh,I believe Ramage is no worse than Baba),all Roeder's first choice players featured in that game.

Again, when we lost to Bolton at home, the starting line-up was nearly the same apart from Harper in for Given and Solano in for N'Zogbia.

Given's absence was the reason the outfield play was so poor in that game?

They are only 2 examples. There are still a lot more.So GR's habit of blaming everything on injury is absolutely nonsense.

PS,I hope people don't blame every bad result on Owen's absense.Otherwise,we should have surrendered before the season started.

BTW,I clearly remember at the start of the season Roeder said he was happy with the squad and confident of a top 6 finish. But now,he's moaning that this is not his team!

Yes, but the injuries have kept the team from playing together consistently. You can't expect the players to gel together perfectly when the squad is always changing and everyone is forced to play out of position. Roeder is right to say that the injuries have hurt us this year.

  7. It goes deeper than just the money. Even if we had the money to sign the best of the best, those players want to play in the Champions League, and we can't guarantee them that.

But, with that said, I don't think that a 4th place finish is out of the question for a lot of teams. Winning the EPL is just out of the question for anyone who isn't Man U, Chelsea and maybe Arsenal and Liverpool.

Since 2001 bar us twice and Everton once no other team other than the 'the big 4' have qualifyied for the CL.

Good point. And the sad thing is that when Everton qualified, Liverpool still got in as well.

  8. It goes deeper than just the money. Even if we had the money to sign the best of the best, those players want to play in the Champions League, and we can't guarantee them that.

  9. I have two major problems with Roeder:

    1. He has no mind for tactics.

    2. He promised the fans he would bring in players in the transfer windows and both times he disappointed and made excuses.

He was good as a care taker last season, but we need a proper manager with a history of success.

  10. If Milner doesn't get a new contract, I will have lost all faith in the direction of this club.

The rest can go. I like Sibs, but I agree that he doesn't bring a lot to the club. I'd be content if he stays or if he goes.

  11. I lived in David Edgar's hometown here in Canada. He's an absolute hero over here. When he scored that goal against Man United, people couldn't stop talking about it. I truly hope he doesn't go somewhere else next year. I really can't see Roeder not resigning him though, and all indications are that he's happy at Newcastle.

  12. I agree that Edgar should be getting more of a chance (and not just because he's a fellow Canadian). We had a good run in the middle, when we had our young players out there, so they should all be getting more of a chance.

I'm glad to see this thread, because I don't share everyone's pesimism over the future of our club. I think that we need a few key signings and we'll be fine. For instance, I think we need a true leader who is respected and can create more cohesion on the pitch, and we need a more physically dominant striker. I disagree that we don't have good players out there. I think we're weak in a few areas, but are mostly missing that intangible element.

Also, I really enjoy watching Duff flap his arms around in disbelief when nobody passes the ball to him. That's been very entertaining.  :D

  13. No seeing as I think we need a whole new squad. Yes things are that bad.

The players we should persevere with are Martins, Dyer, Zoggy and Owen if he stays...The rest need to start fighting for their places which will only happen under new management with a decent budget.

I would add Milner to that list. He's worked hard and has been a bright spot on the squad this year.

I'm also in the camp that says Roeder has got to go, and it has to be sooner than later. We need an experienced mananger who has a better grasp of tactics.
