No because in the Spurs team, he has the ability to score and assist in advanced areas. They also play different. I'm not even sure Dier plays every game in that team. Honestly not sure Dier's a first team player. Thought he was more of a utility player like Phil Jones tbh. He plays as a CB, DM, anywhere in the back four or deep midfield. If Spurs signed a better advanced player than Alli, it'd make for an interesting experiment. Honestly don't think they should yet. He's got a special place in that Spurs team and it works for him. Also I think Dier's good. He surprises me. But I have him down as the clogger type. Would like to see us have a more expansive style. If it's Dier's in that deep role, I can't see him having the same reaction time Alli would. Spurs fans will know better. Hopefully leffe186[/member] can weigh in on this. Has Alli played deeper for Spurs? Do you think he could cut it there? What is Dier's place in the squad?

Now I get this. Totally get it but I just think even as the deepest of a midfield three, Alli would offer more than Eric Dier. It's not completely shoehorning. It'll be a test for him. Unless he's willing to adapt to the team and learn the position, I wouldn't want him in the team. Even coming off the bench, what would he offer? Where would he play? We'd have to set the entire team around him even then. Would rather he learn the DM position rather than be used as a number 10 in a team where we have Kane, Rashford and Sterling who can play it better. Also Foden in the future. In the summer, he played at the top of the midfield three and tbh, I barely saw him. We all kept saying he looked unfit. Aside from his goal vs Sweeden, he barely did a thing. He just ran around trying to get involved.

He isn't box to box. He's a second striker. He played in midfield for England in the summer and was their clear weak link throughout. Given he's literally not a CM I'd have at least Lucas Torreira, Bentancur, Arthur and Kessie ahead of him who are all either the same age or younger Agree he's more of a second striker than classic CM, but don't agree those other players are better than him. Think he offers more even if that is goals and assists. Think you're underrating him a bit here as I don't know what would be an upgrade on Dele Alli. Not sure he's the imposing type. Think he relies more on superior positioning rather than digging around the pitch like the players Triggs mentioned. Would have him starting for England and if we play a back four, I'd have him as the player to collect the ball from the centre halves and launch attacks.

Really hope you guys sign Zaha. Sign and him and get rid of Lamela(He's good but injured and inconsistent. He's also a cunt). Feel like if you don't, Chelsea will. A lot of comparisons to Victor Moses. Can see Chelsea turning him into a RWB.

He's pretty much box to box. His energy is off the charts. Watch him in the game against Chelsea and he's everywhere. Set up Son's goal from deep and was the highest player pressing for the majority of the game. And I can't think of a better 22 year old CM in the world right now.

Put Alli in that second striker position for England and he'll try to dribble to goal every time he gets the ball. Don't think it's too much to ask for him to 'do a job' for England.

Just gonna leave this here. Not trying to start anything but a +1 on the Alli deep midfield role. Also mentioned Roy Keane in the exact same sense I did.

This is spot on ? It’s a shame it ended like it did, he was a good player. Aye one of the players I wish had stayed. Think it was against Arsenal when Nobby scored he really gained my respect. He covered every blade and was in the wars all day. Throwing himself into every tackle and taking some pretty severe hits. Had a goal in him, too. Always wanted him and Barton in our central midfield but that never happened.

Re: the Sterling abuse - what did the fans say? Didn't get a good look.

The third one? Think it was macho cause he rode the challenge. He didn't celebrate any of them. His expression didn't change, it was weird. Checked out the first ones as apparently Liverpool fans are also worried by it. Think he scores then nods as if to say "I'm the man" then realizes the opportunity was more fasioned by Firmino's involement and turns to thank him. The look on his face tells me he was trying to prove a point on the day. Maybe as he hadn't scored for a few games.
