Imagine, wow.
N-O will find a negative slant to it though.
There probably would be a real negative slant actually.
"Following his solid performance in the derby, highlighted by his tremendous free-kick winner, we feel that Ryan can be a performer for us this season at left back. With Shane available as cover, we can now shift our attention to other areas of the squad."
Excellent news if true. Gets to play regularly and it's highly unlikely his value would drop as a result since it's not very high to begin with. If he performs well it could go up.
Harper is fine as second choice.
Sturridge is not a realistic option - not only for us, but probably every other team in the world. Think after his preseason he's become a serious part of AVB's plans.
I know this is said all the time, but it really is mind boggling that with all the money they have spent and the players they have collected that Gareth Barry is still one of the first names Mancini puts on the team sheet.
In Soccernet's team of the week:

Becomes less meaningful when you see that he opted for Saylor over Colo.
On a side note, sometime between the end of last season and this season Fox Soccer Channel has changed from using EPL (which they didn't even use that often) to saying/writing BPL all the time. Not sure if they were forced to because of the sponsor or what, but it's really bothering me.
Won't be far off anyway in the next few years. Jones, Smalling, Cleverly, and Rooney make a pretty good spine. Add Sturridge, Wilshere, and Johnson (if he can play regularly) and there may be some hope.
