He really is a terrible human being.
  2. You know, you're absolutely right. Baseball hasn't been woven into the fabric of America for well over 100 years or anything. "In our sun-down perambulations, of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing "base," a certain game of ball...Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms...the game of ball is glorious." - Walt Whitman, 1846 It's possible to separate the rampant commercialism from the purer sides of the sport. It can be difficult when you're watching Rays' Baseball presented by Joe's Crab Shack live from Tropicana Field , but all you need to look at is Monument Park in Yankee Stadium or the ivy on the walls at Wrigley, the Green Monster at Fenway Park or imagine Kirk Gibson's famous home run at Dodger Stadium with Vin Scully's unparalleled voice describing it. The history and the moments of the game will outlive every corporate sponsor, every tacky billboard, and every Pregame Show brought to you by Castrol GTX. That being said, the Sports Direct s*** looks tacky and, like others have said, it's a lot harder to take when it's not making the club any richer.

    Alan Pardew

His worst game management with us by a long shot.
  4. That's because Tiote has ranged from average to utter shit for most of the season.
  5. I'm starting to buy into the 'Tiote has been replaced with an imposter' conspiracy theories.
  6. I feel like Pardew expected us to be up 2 or 3-0 at some point in the second half and he could have brought Santon on for a debut with no pressure. Now it's clear Raylor is a completely liability back there, but he isn't sure he wants to throw Santon into this situation. At least that's the most logical explanation I can come up with. Still doesn't make sense though.
  7. It's true. In hindsight the Arsenal goal was the most unbelievable thing that ever happened.
  8. Best does so much running. He makes Shola look even more static than he always is.
  9. We look even better than I thought we would in all black. Tiote needs stop with that shit.
  10. Love the new look. The only thing I don't like is how the link back to the football page at the top of each thread lists the moderators after. Just seems in the way. I'm sure I'll get used to it though and I do realize this is incredibly trivial.
  11. Neil - Kenwright portrays himself, and is portrayed in the media, as an incredibly passionate and loyal Everton supporter that would do anything for the club. Is this accurate or still believed by supporters? Do you think he's genuinely looking for a buyer who has the best interests of Everton F.C. at heart or is he just looking to make some money?

    The Arsenal

If they don't take six points from Swansea and Blackburn I will really start to wonder about where they might finish. As of now I still think they will battle Liverpool for 4th, but losing Wilshere and Vermaelen for 2-3 months is a big blow.
  13. personally not that bothered if they add the SD s*** in front but they shouldn't take down the NEWCASTLE UNITED imo, i actually think they're ahead of the game with regards this tripe...it will become the norm to add a sponsorship to stadium names/stands etc... just as per usual they're doing it wrong Yup, the Premier League is shifting to the American sports model. Just a matter of time before every stadium name is sponsored and every inch of the stadium is filled with ads. I'm amazed it's taking this long to be honest.

    Alan Pardew

Should have done that when Chelsea were desperate for Torres. I know he was on loan at Bolton at the time, but I'm sure something could have been worked out.

    Bryan Ruiz

That was posted at 3:22 in the afternoon. Way before it was even reported over here, right? Who was in Manchester? I thought DL was in London?

    Alan Pardew

Not allowed to talk about them at all - good or bad.
  17. so what happened to them? They changed name. New York Red Bulls FC Red Bull Salzburg so... Sports Direct Football Club (SDFC)
  18. Could be wrong but I think some people are confusing St. James' Holdings with Sir John Hall when they see SJH
  19. His first tweet is fine and even the second to some extent, though borderline. Commenting on new players is just completely uncalled for. Can't wait to stuff them in 2 weeks time.

    The Arsenal

When Arteta, Benayoun and RvP are injured come October they will be looking pretty rough with nowhere to turn.
  21. Hard to say, I've never argued that things are all rosy or that we haven't made any mistakes. I just don't think it's the apocalypse either. I said it would be inexcusable not to sign a LB, but we ended up getting a pretty good one. Maybe not as good as Enrique, but there aren't many of them around anyway. We are short of one quality striker, totally agree with that. The problem was always that we needed to get one that was far above our current ones, and that is hard to get if you can't/won't loosen the purse strings enough. Ashley has done a lot of things wrong during his tenure, but also some right. I agree with his general plan to make us more financially sustainable, the only question is how much he should be cutting from the spending. I don't really know what the answer to that is, I just don't see the point in raging against it because I think it's at least partly correct. I do think we're heading in the right direction. I don't know all the ins and outs of the finances, but I think it's pretty obvious our situation is a hell of a lot better today than it was 3-4 years ago. We've also shifted a lot of aging, overpaid players and replaced them with a fairly young team that I find much more exciting to watch. It just seems like we could have really made a big push this season and as of four hours ago I thought it was going to happen. A proper goalscorer in Ruiz, plus some much needed cover for the backline. That hope definitely made this even worse. I think we did a lot of good things this summer, but we don't have a #9. I think I need to log off before I see another person refer to Nolan as some great loss. The best thing we did this summer was replace him with Cabaye.
  22. Ian - I've enjoyed your optimistic views all summer and I've shared most with you, but it's over man. The fact that our top 4 strikers still include Lovenkrands and Shola is just inexcusable. We might have a good season if we get lucky with injuries/suspensions and don't sell anyone in January. In fact, I still think we have a legitimate chance to finish 7th. However, the bottom line is we did not buy the goalscorer that we desperately need. I'm not sure what was real out of all the supposed targets - Gameiro, Gervinho, Erdinc, Maiga, Roux, Cisse, Bendtner, Ruiz, etc. - but the fact is that as of today none of them play for Newcastle United. I'm sure there are a million and one reasons why each didn't work out, but it's indefensible and can only categorized as failure.
  23. I would say the midfield has definitely been strengthened, mainly because Cabaye shits all over Nolan.
