Sell Owen, Buy Defoe.
-
-
I wonder how much Defoe will go for?
Cheeky £5m bid if we sell Ameobi for £2m?
I'd have Defoe over Owen. We could do with the £2 million as well. I just don't get why Boro are so intent on signing mediocre strikers, Aliadiere, that Korean, Mido now Ameobi. If they want to stay up they need a top-class striker.

He could be frustrating as hell sometimes, but one moment of magic and all that was quickly forgotten.
Exactly. It will be interesting to see if he still has this magic, otherwise he is fucked.
-
He's young, talented and is experienced in English football. Can't go wrong tbh.
My only worry is that like at Arsenal, he'd want to be straight in the team. Will Allardyce do this (meaning dropping one of his other signings) or will he be brought through slowly like Enrique?
Why would he be brought through slowly? He's got a significant amount of Premiership experience already.
I wouldn't say he has a significant amount of Premiership experience, 18 games ...
Consider the experience of the likes of Faye, Geremi or Butt. He could play at RB whilst Beye is away but playing there pissed him off at Arsenal.
-
If we can sign Diarra then I think it's safe to say that the CDM position is sorted for at least 5 years.
He's much more like Makelele than Essien. I can't really see a resemblance with Essien whatsoever.
I always thought he was one of those up and down midfilders who dont stop running, like essien.
I'm sure he can be, but he really showed his strengths against us in the Carling Cup, playing as a plug in the midfield. I was at the game and his close control, tackling ability and distribution were frankly infuriating me. Like someone said above, him and Faye as well as Butt could make a great partnership in the centre when we need to defend a game.
We have to also consider the fact that he is 22 with 9 French caps under his belt. France have a wealth of CDM's and he's already broken through as a regular.
-
He's s*** upfront as well, in fairness, HTL.
He hasn't had a decent run upfront yet, NM.
Played well with Martins against Arsenal.

Italian press are saying Mellberg has agreed to sign for Juventus from Villa in the summer
Is he out of contract in the summer? I am sure I herd that Martin Laursen was.
BRUMMIE COME IN,BRUMMIE COME IN, COME IN BRUMMIE
Laursen just signed a new one iirc
Don't think you did. They opened talks before Christmas.

Yes, Mellberg is out of contract in the summer, as is Laursen.

We need to put a bid down for Diego, as unlikely as it is he will come here.

Toure is the only first teamer they'll miss. And in terms of us, thats probably a bonus for them, since as classy a defender as he is, Senderos will probably step in to partner Gallas, and hes more adept at handling strikers like Smith or Viduka than Toure is due to his increased height and strength.
He has height and strength but he is probably the least intelligent defender I've ever seen since the top-four broke away. He's very slow and cumbersome and is renowned for giving away free-kicks and getting cards. He's received 3 red cards and 6 yellows in just 52 appearances. We must play Owen and N'Zogbia against him.
-
At least we're playing them while a lot of their good players will be away. I realise that's not much consolation since some of ours will be as well.
Toure and Eboue ...
Rosicky or Hleb will play on the right, they'll bring Walcott on. Senderos is absolute s****, we have to hope they play him instead of Djourou who in my opinon is much better.
Adebayor, Diarra and Diaby too. I realise some are not starters, but the less options Wenger has, the better.
Where are Adebayor, Diarra and Diaby going? Only Eboue, Toure and Song are going to the tournament.
I stand corrected. Bollocks! Useless bloody Togo, could have done with Adebayor being away.
Exactly, he's a massive threat up front. I don't know what's going on with Van Persie but I hope he won't be available.

If he stays injury-free he may get back to the form that made him one of the greatest strikers in the world. I see no other alternative to Owen whilst Martins is away so we just have to hope he doesn't get injured. If he misses half of our remaining league games this season then we must sell him in the summer.

Why does Big Sam refuse to take Smith off, no matter how little hes doing?
He was utterly invisible today except for barking at the referee/linesman, even more so (if thats possible) when pushed back into midfield.
Its not an encouraging situation when a manager has untouchables in his team, less so when the player in question isnt exactly world class. Im sure other players arent going to be happy in private when they get taken off and Allardyce's favourite doesnt irrespective of performance.
Mike Ashley.

Owens touch was pretty poor, not much confidence in him at the moment.
Viduka one decent turn and shot and didn't win much in the air.
Their link up play was pretty non-existent, Owen was looking for the flick ons, but Viduka didn't produce
Well all we have aside from them is the hope that Martins will be available for Man Utd away and Andy Carroll ... Owen and Viduka have hundreds of career goals between them, if they can't score goals we are fucked.
-
Man City after Mancini from Roma
He would do brilliantly for them and if they were to get Podolski they would be definite contenders for top four
Podolski has been a complete flop at Bayern Munich. His time there has been riddled with injuries and he's scored only 4 goals since the start of last season. Sure, he's full of promise but he's hardly the reliable 15-20 goals a season striker that City need to be in the top 6 consistently.
-
Well, I understand that but I am more interested in how they played together. Did they threaten at all, what was their link-up play like?
They are without a doubt our first choice partnership now Oba is away so it's quite important for them to play well together.
-
We haven't beaten Stoke yet. Remember the exact fixture last season (Stoke aside)?
-
I missed the game yesterday. How did Owen and Viduka play as a partnership?
Newcastle linked with Geromel

£2.5 million for a player with now Premiership experience whatsoever. Make's Faye look like a bargain.
