  12. Prior to "internet hardmen" like Wireside, and before strict segregation and ticket allocations, i.e. when it was a much more level playing field, Sunderland were generally regarded throughout football as a pushover. Quite cowardly really that they have waited until regulations tipped the odds heavily in their favour before they started mouthing off and picking fights. so true- I used to go to Roker in the 70s and 80s, even went in the away end once when Ipswich were there, we always thought they were a bit of a joke tbh. I was probably in Sunderland parts for more Roker Park derbies than our end. Not for any sinister reason, it's just that our tickets used to sell out instantly (first come first served) and it was always easy to get tickets down there as they never sold out even for the derby games. Remember there being loads of Geordies in there when you arrived but don't really recall any trouble. They just sort of accepted that we'd be in there. it was also a piece of piss to get in an all ticket game, without a ticket for a fiver at the turnstiles. did this for both ther liam o games.

I go to Sunderland uni () but travel from Newcastle every day and I know loads of people that do. In general if people from outside the area want to go on a night out or out shopping they'll come through to Newcastle, it's only really the locals that try and tell everyone nightlife in Newcastle is s***. In my 3rd year now and I've been out in Sunderland a grand total of 3 times, it is appauling. There is a reason i'd never been over to Sunderland before I started uni You can just tell the whole place is on its arse, the centre is far closer to Wallsend or Shields highstreet than Newcastle, it really is a dive. so is that

they don't see newcastle like that, they just say it as to say otherwise would be to acknowledge the massive difference between the two places.a bit like when your lass says "I don't know what people see in Cheryl Cole, she's not that good looking" the remind me of tramps standing outside a mansion, laughing cos the windows havent been cleaned for a week.
