We don't know anything for a fact. The one thing we can actually speculate about is that most probably our squad isn't enjoying their football, at all. They can't be enjoying the way we play, or the defeats, and the manner they have come in. Negativity in the squad will lead to squabbles and finger pointing, especially when that squad is led by an impostor like Pardew. We don't have a clear and defined project or philosophy governing our actions as a club, or the football we play. Selling a significant member of the team without replacing him will also add to that. At the same time, AP doesn't select his starting line-ups based on footballing merit or form, but rather on good behaviour it seems. The inconsistency in his selection and subsequent dropping of HBA/Marveaux/Cisse/MYM doesn't make sense when you see him desperately stick with out-of-form Gouffran, Ameobi, Coloccini or Sissoko (at one time).

Ultimately it is Pardew's responsibility to manage the dressing room be that directly or through his club captain Coloccini, and he has clearly failed miserably in doing that.

Zakaria Bakkali - Similar player to HBA but, imo, better decision making and better attitude. Intelligent.

 

Any good? Heard a lot of him, but he's played like 20 games in his career. Seen a lot of him? Heard he's supposed to be the next big belgian thing.

 

He's raw but will be a good player. Seen bits of him. He's tiny. My HBA comparison was a little off... he's somewhere between a Hatem and Walcott.

Noa's article should be getting some love here too. Very well put sir! Before I read it, I imagined it to be a scathing attack on an ex-player, but your points come across very well without having to do what most of Pardew's supporters do trotting out the "just because" line. Good read.

Who did I expect us to finish ahead of? Everybody! That includes Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and any other f***er that stands in our way of being champions. I also expected us to win the champions league!! Or at least reach the final!!

FFS man, what the f*** is wrong with ambition? Yeah I know we're s***, and I know Pardew is s***, I know we don't spend, I know our squad is lacking etc... But I started this season like I start every season. To support the team in the aim of finishing the season as champions and winning every competition we enter.

This "where did you expect us to finish" lark is a post-modern NUFC cliche. Seems like a significant chunk of our fanbase has finally convinced themselves that they ARE deluded having been told time and time again by the southern press/fans of other clubs. Watching an entire season revolve around dampened expectations has been the near-death of this club. Madness.

I read this aloud to Mrs Bimpy while she took her weekly bath. She was annoyed at first due to her not liking football but by the end she was engrossed. The prose, content and the smell of Radox combining to create a frisson of lust which, unfortunately, I took full advantage of. Thank you, Matthew.

Here's my theory:

Ashley certainly did interfere with tactics and team selections when we finished fifth. Pardew won the accolades (and manager of the year), but felt he needed to do it on his own without Ashley baby-sitting him, the man of dignity that he is, and asked the owner to stop interfering.

We've been shit since then.

Also, what's this about "how much the title means" to Suarez or Gerard?? How about what it means to the rest of the Liverpool team? Or any other f***ing player who comes this close to winning a trophy then fuck it up? League runners-up, losing cup finalists? It's a media wankfest par excellence. Nowt more nowt less. It doesn't mean "more" to these two chaps just because of who they are. Just because a player sobs on the pitch like a fairy doesn't mean he's hurting more than another who will go home and have a good cry to his wife or whatever. No one felt sorry for us in 96 or 09, so I don't feel sorry for anyone. Winning, losing, relegation, promotion...it's all football.
