  1. I'm happy enough to see how he does next season but I don't see why everybody should have the same opinion.  malandro has every right to form his own opinion and then to express it.  I think the chances of Hughton turning out to be a good manager are 50/50 so it could go either way for him.

I don't think Hughton has been as good as some people think he's been and that is mainly down to some of the reasons already mentioned.  Our squad is better than anything in this league and we look to have done as well as we should have with the players at our disposal.

Hughton has won me over but I'm not totally convinced that he can make the step up, I do now think he should be given the chance to prove himself and that wasn't the case 2 months ago.

Yes malandro is entitled to form and express his own opinions of course, but with his kind of approach it begs the question, how much time/patience will Hughton get from the faithful next season should things not get off to the best of starts? We've been crying out a long time for a young ambitious manager who we could give time to build a squad here, and I think Hughton deserves a real go of things the way he has handled himself, Ashley and the players this season. If people with malandro's opinion on Hughton outnumber those who support him, it would worry me more than Hughton's credentials as a PL manager.

what makes you think hughton is young and ambitious, or has the ability to build a squad worthy of the club?

    just interested

He's young in managerial terms, as this is his first proper gig. We're top of the league and have been all season. This means he's done something right. We were top of the league before the winter window, and he could have pleased Ashley by saying "give me loan players for cover, we're top, im doing a minted job". But he didn't. Despite being top, he still recognized our desperate need for balance in midfield and signed Routledge. He knew we needed a center half, and duly went out and bought Williamson who has proved an absolute bargain. This shows his ambition for continuous improvement on your own position - no resting on our laurels and all that.

His attitude and learning curve have both been superb. The players could have taken all the credit themselves, but the biggest indicator for me that credit goes to CH and CC is that the players themselves cant stop raving about them. Who knows, it may take Hughton a couple of yrs to really grasp management in the PL. The signs so far are in his favor in that he seems to be learning and most importantly greatly enjoying the challenge. Maybe the bloke always thought naah managements not for me im just a coach, and he's just realized that this was the right time to try it on.

By the way Mojo you're unlucky for being disconnected with NUFC this season as it's been the best one we've had as supporters for a good few years. Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about, and Chris Hughton has played a big part in giving us that good feeling again.

  3. It might not be a popular in certain circles, but it is a fact that Hughton found himself managing the most expensively assembled and highly paid squad in the division. Not to mention by far the best supported team. He started with an advantage and maintained it. This isn’t to take away from what he has achieved, only to put it into perspective.

Perhaps the debate needs to be turned around and ask what could he have done to scupper our promotion bid that he didn’t?

Rewind......in August this expensively assembled squad made up various managers signings was going drag the club down financially off the pitch & take us directly to L1 on it.

Which CCC team started the season with a better squad of players than NUFC?

We had a better squad than Hull but that counted for f*** all man.

Take a refresher with SKYSPORTS.COM to see how they thought we were going to do this season http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11096_5463544,00.html

Pre-season we had no manager & got trashed by Leyton Orient, fairplay to you for thinking we were going to piss this league

I’m not interested in Sky Sports, or what people’s perceptions of the CCC were in August. I thought we might struggle, but then again I hadn’t taken much interest in the CC for 15 years. When it comes to assessing how well Hughton has done the starting point has to be what he had to work with. So, which CCC team started the season with a better squad of players than NUFC?

What you're arguing here is pure and utter crap. You should just admit that you're being a negative sod about Hughton's chances as a manager in top flight rather than try to justify the stupidity of your argument with NE5-esque "facts".

The "fact" is that NUFC is top of the league with a few games to go, and we have had some special moments in a season we have enjoyed a million times more than our time in top flight since Sir Bobby's time. Chris Hughton is the man in charge at present, and that's who all the credit is going to.

  4.

Just thought I'd come in here and say that I couldn't f***ing care less about the Arsenal-Barca wankfest :)

Both sides can f*** right off  :snod:

Aye, f*** them and their intricate passing football and skilful players. Who wants to watch that rubbish?

Too f***ing right. I'd rather watch a team full of Nicky Butt clones facing a team of Kevin Nolans.

So long as they play for the team I support  :aww:

  5. At every single point this season where i've thought, "this is where Hughton needs to prove himself", for me - he's passed the test every single time. Right from the very start of the season - with collecting team spirit... to signing the right players in January... to the numerous times where we've lost or hit a dry spell, and it's looked a real challenge to up the momentum and get back to playing really well. He's done an absolutely fantastic job this season, no doubt about it.

We'd have been promoted already if we had a manager who had testicles.  We have played far too negative away from home, and if you think it's going to be any better when we go up then you want your head examined.  He still needs to learn a hell of a lot imo.  Think back to Leicester away.  They had 10 men, we played abysmal and he got his tactics all wrong.  There's also the league cup, getting knocked out by Peterborough after fielding a bunch of kids.  If he was going to do that then what was the point in the Huddersfield game at SJP?  There's also been numerous substitutions and times where we've been stale and boring on the pitch yet he's done f*** all about it.  He hasn't done a bad job overall, but to w*** him off like you have just done is laughable.

  6.

I wonder how much Colin Calderwood has to do with all of Hughton's relative success. Players in interviews always seem to mention "Chris and Colin" when referring to the mammoth job being done at bringing the club some stability and ultimately results.

Hughton is clearly coming into his own as a manager. He's even slowly started to develop the persona, and no longer looks like the shy assistant boss he did a while back.

  7. If I have learned anything from 30 odd years following theToon.

It is that constantly changing Managers does not bring sucess.

Perhaps it is time we stuck with a Young-ish Manager, through the ups and downs while he gains experience, and builds a competetive squad. Something like what Everton have done with Moyes.

Im also not so dissapointed at the reported new transfer policy, cos ive also learned that trophy signings, and Big time charlies get you knowhere but in Debt.

  8. majorific is Alf Taylor tbh.

So anyone who doesn't think Taylor is not necessarily a complete c**t must be a member of his family?

    Tragic tbh.

Not as tragic as someone who thinks the sun shines out of all the Newcastle players' (past and present) arses and can't see the blindingly obvious though!

Colo will bomb again the PL

    this, btw

nothing against you personally doc, but the negativity on this board is really depressing. no other words to describe it.

  9. Its got f*** all to do with anything other than your ability to judge a player, read a game, whether you've played a decent level yourself and your general understanding of the game.

Someone like Ronaldo on here clearly knows the game well, i'd trust his view on a player after watching them for 90 minutes, whereas others i wouldnt trust if they'd watched every game the player had ever played in. This skill is the one that scouts have, not everyone has them and that is what ultimately gives weight to an opinion. Got f*** all to do with season tickets but a view at the match is better for assessing a player than the telly.

He's one of the last i would trust.

 I know what you mean!! Ronaldo is generally a knowledgeable fella but some of his "opinions" on some players are downright laughable.

  10. It is fair to say as Tooj says,he has an arrogance about him,or he did here at Coventry.Perhaps playing for a club with greater expectations has ebbed that. The sooner he scores, the better.

I really hoped he would score the winner yesterday. Would have done his confidence a world of good. Still playing like a new signing but did get more involved yesterday. Unlucky with the header!! Would have been a cracking winner.

  11. The last two games he has really upped his general play which is good to see. He has a reason to be playing with that swagger now, whereas previously he was scoring goals but looked far from convincing. Still he needs a good coach to bring out the best in him.

Sort of whats happening now isn't it?

Who's the good coach we've got like?

fuck knows! but he must be doing something right :)

  12. The arrogant ones are the foreigners/ex-pats who come on here and accuse folk who spend over a grand a year following the toon of being too critical of certain players and the management.

still think Carroll is shit eh?

  13.

Coloccini for me with all things considered. He came here with a big price tag and had a miserable first season and ended up being relegated. It's a World Cup year and he could have asked for a move to a top league putting himself in the reckoning for a call up, but he didn't.

His performances have been very impressive as has his appearances record. He's had a top season and imo will win player of the year.

Honorable mention to Jose, Nolan and Carroll. AC has come up with some clutch goals for us this season turning defeats into draws and draws into victories. Not bad considering he's "shit".
