  1. What  that toilet roll of a newspaper fails to point out is that the likes of Portsmouth, West Ham, Liverpool, Man Utd, Hull etc. are in serious financial jeaopardy through spending beyond their means or just generally poor financial management. Football is changing and although we may struggle in the short term to reach the heady heights of European Qualification, we will at least rejoin the Premier Legaue in a better financial position than when we left it.

We may be scraping the barrell in terms of signings but at least we're not looking over our shoulder at the possibility of administration like many other teams.

It's about time these rags supported those clubs who are spending sensibly and congratulated them on being self-sufficient rather than suggesting they're second rate because they don't make senational big money signings.

Following Newcastle at the time we were splashing the cash was f***ing brilliant but innevitably we shafted ourselves.

That article just stinks of a sports journalist who's bored as f*** because we're not giving him anything to write about any more.  Well how about earning your crust reporting about how well Everton, Fulham, Birmingham and Arsenal have done by adopting a pragmatic attitude and investing shrewdly you unimaginative jobsworth prick!

Before any of you morons suggest this is a pro-Ashley post, it f***ing isn't alright.

    top post this

  2. Just read a few brilliant World Cup facts:

    - Since 1978, only 5 teams have participated in a World Cup Final (Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, France)

    - In 2006, no Western European teams lost to someone from another region in open play (Switzerland lost to Ukraine on penalties)

    - Argentina havn't defeated a Western European team in open play since the 1986 final

The World Cup winners will either be Italy or a nation from outside of Europe. I'm inclined to say South America?

  3.

Don't know the situation with Hargreaves as I havent followed the other threads. But if he's fit, he must go. Agbonlahor should be there, and on merit too. We don't need both Heskey and Crouch. The lanky robot should be enough. Other than that England should be ripping teams apart with the pace upfront and precision passing of Lampard and Carrick.

  4. Personally, from what I've seen Hughton gets more right than he does wrong. His commitment to 4-5-1 away may produce frustrating football but you rarely look defensively leaky. Surely it's all about nicking 1-0 wins from even-ish games for the time being? (Yes, he didn't act quickly enough or indeed act at all at Leicester). That's just from what I've seen, like.

No sense in talking sense here pal. Hughton's a cunt full stop :)

  5.

His signings could be key. So far his signings have suggested that he wants to play a more attacking formation, routledge and van legend are good examples. He could have gone with slower players who want to hoof it but he went with pace.

He couldn't have gone with slower players who want to hoof it, they were injured.  The only option he had to change our starting line up that would have been negative was Ryan Taylor for Routledge or Simpson and that choice would have been stupid, even for him.

We'll see his true managerial ability once Butt and Smith are free from injury, it will also be interesting to see what he does with Lovenkrands after last night, he should start instead of Best.

In theory you're probably right about starting Mcloveinhispants ahead of Best. But as he says in his post match, its all about the impact the players make whatever game minutes they are given. His decision last night was the right one. Perhaps he will start to get it right more often than not now that he has a solid pool of players.

  6. The defence is why we're top. These 'other clubs' find it a lot easier to score goals when they're not playing against us.

We've given up a good number of decent chances in most games if you ask me. The opposition invariably screw them up.

We do allow a few chance, but we also do a lot of good defending where inferior players might have been skinned.

Probably a mixture of the two, obviously, but I've been impressed by our defence.

this is where the difference between "defence" and "defending" comes in as our defence is often doing the defending for the midfield aswell.

    well put there maddie

  7. Said the big difference between us and the other clubs in the divison was that they had nobody to take their chances and we on the other had a lot of players capable of scoring goals. Load of bollocks that i might, might have expected from Dion Dublin.

Say what? How is it "the most flawed pieces of punditry you ever heard in your life"? We're top of the league, and we've managed that by winning the most games. To do that we need to score more than the opposition more often than not. He didnt mean we're prolific, what he meant was that when it mattered, and we needed to win, we did! Also, keep in mind that comment came before our recnt dip in form.

  8. looks like Hughton reckons the midfield is top class and doesn't need bolstering,so we go for alleged strikers, yeah that'll be right

I really don't think he believes this.

Agreed. For all we know, we may not have had many midfielders to choose from to bring in. Or we may have been quoted silly money. Also, the Barton factor may have played a part in his decision not to bring someone in. Also, may already have someone in mind on loan once he assesses Barton's fitness and form upon his return.

Look at the CMs he has: Barton, Butt, Smith, Nolan and Guthrie. To anyone outside of Newcastle, they'd say that midfield should piss all over this league.

For the first time in my life I'll say this: we need a Jimmy Bullard in our midfield. Guthrie can be that, but he's either played out of position, or goes missing for long spells when he's in the center. Definitely a player with the skills to do it, but lacking the mental strength for such a responsibility.

  10. Rooney is the best centre-forward in the game at the moment, he has it all and is now starting to be more prolific.

 what he can still achieve is frightening. Personally, I sincerely hope he can do it especially if it means England winning the WC.
