  1. How so? Why would you put a sensible release clause on the greatest player in your club's history?

It's not that. It's the total disdain for the value of money, especially when there is still widespread poverty and hunger in large parts of the world. Obviously no one will pay anywhere near that to buy him, and it's more of a symbolic value, but my point still stands about football being way too profligate with money.

  2. I think the striker position is the number 1 priority this summer. Not necessarily our weakest position, but the position that makes the biggest difference to struggling teams. You can be crap and get away with it to an extent if you have a quality striker nicking points you don't deserve - just look at the Pardew years, or the mackems with Defoe until this season.

With that in mind, I hope we are not putting all our striker eggs in the Abraham basket. I'll admit I'm going off dodgy highlight reels here, but he seems a penalty box predator not too unlike Gayle. The Premier League doesn't present nearly as many gilt-edged chances as the ones I'm seeing from his goals. Rafa knows far more than I do, but I wonder how far down Rafa's list he is, or whether the decision has been made to get bargains where we can to free up funds elsewhere for what is gonna be a major overhaul. We have to take whatever bargains we can get and this lad on loan might just be one. 23 goals in a crap team is bloody impressive. He is worth a punt but is he worth betting all our chips on in terms of strengthening our front line? The Premier League is a major step up.

His hold up play looks pretty decent to me, and it could be one of the main reasons aside from predatory instincts and pace that he's being chased by Rafa.

  3. Out of interest would people be happy if Gayle started 2/3 of games next season? Because Abraham was not far behind Gayle in terms of performances and playing for a much inferior team.

This guy is going to be one of the best Premier League strikers of the next ten years.

Yes it is a loan, but Chelsea teenagers rarely make the grade there as Chelsea would prefer to sign a player at peak

Like Lukaku at Everton this puts us at the front of the queue for a future permanent deal for a very talented player. It's a superb signing.

  4. Some comments on here from Portuguese people

seems the consensus is he can be decent but makes stupid mistakes.. a lot

f***!!! Someone should get the link to Rafa sharpish! Please god i hope he sees the comments before we go out and waste 120 million on this brainless oaf!!

  5. That's the thing. As much as I'd like us to build for the future using players under contract to us, even Liverpool (Moses) have used loans to fill gaps in their squad. No harm in one or two.

Yup. It's all about quality being available to us, especially to a manager like Rafa who loves to rotate. Plus, Rafa has enough gravitas about him that should the player be relatively successful during his loan spell, he'll be more likely to make the move permanent than not.

  6. Exactly. As usual you can't say anything vaguely positive about the lad without inferring he's something he's clearly not.

Not at all. He certainly has some very positive attributes (unlike say Colback). They're just not best used at LB over an entire season. That's all. Personally I think he would make a good left-sided CB in a 3 at the back type deal, provided he has a very good LWB out wide.

  7. I really don't, I want him replaced ideally, just not with s*** defenders who'll take us back to the days when our full backs regularly played like they had money on the opposition to win by three goal margins.

And Dummett doesn't play like that in the PL? Just because he can put in a tackle or two doesn't make him a good full-back. He's f***ing s*** unless he's playing at CB where it's easier for him to hide his positional limitations.

He's absolutely not s*** like - have a look at our record with and without him in the Premier last time - if he hadn't got injured we would probably have stayed up.

Paul Dummett, single-handedly keeping NUFC in the PL. Ok now I've heard everything
