  1. Why dont we abondon the game? Just hand them a 2-0 win, to save the travel? Because Kinnear's hands are tied, and theres nothing more he can give because of injuries. So should we not wait until every player is back from injury before we take to the field again?

I know you're only half serious...but some of the defeatist attitudes on this forum!!! Yee of little faith! Have a word man

  2. Strong rumours down here that we're signing Heskey.

    Hmmm.

How is that beneficial to you?. Heskey's a decent player but he's very similiar to Carew. What happens when you're a goal down in a game and you need to change things? Heskey isn't exactly going to get you a goal from nothing is he.

Pogrebnyak is a much better option as he actually scores (as well as everything else Heskey is capable of).

Heskey=Carew if you want to look at it in basic terms. what he would offer is a substitute/rival for Carew's position which they dont really have atm, other than errrr Harewood. agree though that Pogrebnyak would be better, based on what ive seen. if he is available on a loan id love us to bring him here.

    Precisely.

Heskey is like Carew. Carew hasn't played a match in over two months now.

    Giz him then!!??

  3. Still having a hard time agreeing this is all a gamble/on purpose.

Just think it's far more likely that the players who would

    a) improve us

    b) come to us (geographically and career wise)

    c) be sold by their clubs mid season for anything approaching a reasonable fee

are simply not as plentiful as people imagine.

Ah but then there's the old chestnut "well they've had since the summer" ... well, so what?  Scouting teams all over Europe have had since the summer so where's this gigantic flurry of activity?  Are they all failures?  90% of teams out there need strengthening in some area or another.  The fact that this one month mid season period is nowhere near as active as the offseason bears out the difficulty of it.

If it was everyone but us making moves I'd agree in a heartbeat.

But oh well.  Ashley, Wise and co are clearly in league with/may possibly be Satan.

You're right. And we also have to remember how the league table has panned out so far. There are technically 10 or 12 teams who aren't exactly safe. A team lying in 9th at the moment could go on a bad run and easily find themselves in the mire. Another reason why quality players from the clubs around us will not be leaving, as their clubs cannot afford to slip up. It's been a deadlock. A mass clear-out from West Ham & Man City could have helped matters along, but so far it's only been Bellamy outgoing, so not much has given way.

  4. If Ashley didn't do dilligence and had to spend all the money he had for improving the club on retiring debt and the wages of old crap players, that just makes him stupid, and means he paid too much for the club.

It's hardly a reason to support the man. If the club really was about to go tits up he should have bought it for 1p and then he would have had plenty of money to spend fixing the problems. He's made a bad business decision, and now he's trying to get out of it with as little loss as possible.

Why does that mean we should support him?

it doesn't mean we should support him, what it does is give us a little bit more of an understanding of where we were when he took over and the reasons for where we are today. there's an argument to be made that his lack of due dilligence was a good thing for us.

Correct. You can look at this information from so many angles and come up with different views on it. Bit like Infocubes.

  5. Just playing catch up on this thread now and I must say it makes for interesting reading. I think threads like this should be included in this thread.

Much like that one Decky created as well with all of the news headlines.

    Yup

Fantastic thread, with some very good debate going on. I'm no accountant, and nearly totally ignorant in finances in general. Have learned quite a bit on here. Cheers fellas

  6. Question for everyone

IF Sir Bobby quit after our 3rd place finish blaming no control on transfers would he be called a bottler, and didnt give a s*** about NUFC? As some people on here beggars belief

Has he a history of it? Debateable.

Also he did lose control over transfers but still wanted to soldier on for the club he loved....

SBR was 10 times the manager Keegan was, antoher reason why i dont understadn the messiah like status afforded to Keegan.

Exactly. SBR is the real McCoy imo as he came back to this club and lifted it back up to the heights (nearly) of the Keegan days, which is a much more difficult ask the second time around.

  7. NUFC trial for ex-Borussia Dortmund defender

Jan 21 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

NEWCASTLE United were today looking at former Borussia Dortmund defender Ahmed-Reda Madouni.

The player, who has a Bundesliga title in his medal collection, has started a trial with United at the club’s Benton HQ, and joined another player from the German League in Peter Lovenkrands, who is also trying to win a permanent place in the Toon squad.

The 28-year-old defender has also starred for Bayer Leverkusen, but started his career at Montpellier.

However, he has played for the last two seasons on a lucrative deal with Al-Gharafa, where he won a Qatari League winner.

Speaking on the situation regarding Lovenkrands, Kinnear told the Chronicle: “I’ve passed it to Derek Llambias, who is talking to Peter’s agent.

“He’s thrashing out some sort of deal to the end of the season.

“I thought he was excellent yesterday, and he’ll be an extra player for us. He’s done very well.”

The Chronicle understands Manchester City have lodged a second bid for Shay Given in the region of £5m.

That offer will be considered as derisory by the Magpies, who are desperate to keep Given.

However, if the player expresses a wish to leave they may not be able to stand in his way following 11 years of loyal service on Tyneside.

And it is believed that Newcastle feel such a low bid for Given is somewhat of an insult, especially given that City have already paid £12m for Chelsea’s reserve-team left-back Wayne Bridge and £14m for Craig Bellamy from West Ham.

Bundesliga title? 7 subsitute appearences with one being longer then 10 minutes...

"Starring" for Leverkusen? Not even 20 appearences in two seasons.

Nevermind the medal/starring bollocks. Just how pap is he Ise?

  8. Don't understand why Wigan don't keep King, perfect backup for Heskey/Zaki IMO.

On another note, it'll be f***ing interesting to see what happens if Spurs do end up going down as i can't think of a single player bar O'Hara who'd want to stop there. Can't see them going down like but it was just a thought.

Maybe because he actually plays for Hull?

He's on loan from Wigan. 99% sure of it.

fuck me you're right!! didn't realize the deal had fallen through so he went there on loan. soz like

  10.

That is a brilliantly written letter tbh, and we cannot afford for Ashley not to read it. This is why the letter must be directed to him through different avenues. It needs publishing in the fanzines, and possibly printed on cheap paper and distributed at the ground. A copy of it WILL get to him eventually.

Refreshing to read that after the shambles that was the NUSC.

Pointless, because he'll not take it serious. He'll say something like "The ones who wrote that lettre aren't the ones at the matches" or "This might be the opinion of the minority, but definitely not the majority of the Toon supporters..."

Oh right. Because he's stupid enough to think the majority of Toon supporters think we're going really well this season, and have massive posters of Geremi, Butt, Duff and Cacapa up on their bedroom walls for inspiration!

  11. I reckon they should send a copy of that letter to every national newspaper. One of them is bound to print it.

It might be seen by them as another chance to laugh at the plight of Newcastle United but so f***ing what.

To be fair reading that letter, it's well balanced and realistic. It's not deluded and downright embarrassing like some of the tripe we've seen before. No reason for the press to laugh at it.

  13. Isn't Burdisso Coloccini's best mate? Haven't they got tattoo's of the other's name on their arm or something?

Meaning he's told him to avoid coming here at all costs I imagine. ;)

GOOD!! I couldn't wish for a Burdisso on a scummier club than Spurs. Hope they all go down as one big happy family.

  14. Here is my list of players more over rated than Owen

    Gerrard

    Joe Cole

    Jenas

    K Jones

    Bridge (£10m!!)

    Jenas

    Defoe (£15m!!!!)

    Parker

    Jenas

    Lescott

    Jenas

    Terry

    Downing

Delap (Take your long throw and f@$% off)

Jenas is so overrated he's on that list three times??! Disagree with Lescott and Downing tbh, but the rest are fair.

  15. Owen has to be the most overrated footballer in the premiership like

I can name you about 10 more overrated footballers before naming a single NUFC player, nevermind Owen.

    Go on then.

    naah can't be arsed  :smug:

point is, he's not the most overrated in the league. full stop

    What a defeat! :-)

Making a list of over-rated players is quite subjective. I personally think Gerrard is over-rated.

Exactly. Plus you would've stopped talking to me because I had John Terry on that list  :colo:

  17. :snod:

But not Reo-Coker, Lorik Cana at Marseille seems this kind of beast!

Cana is immense but you lot should sign Angelo Palombo from Samp. Failing that, Tymoschuk from Zenit (heard he's going to Bayern though), or frings.

Jesus for a minute there i thought you were talking to a toon fan, i thought you'd lost it.
