Well the deflected goal was hardly down to them either. Makes more sense to play in a style that is getting us results before experimenting with different styles of play/lineups in the hope that we'll become even better. If we want to try other things we should only do it when we're already in a comfortable position, the last few games has shown that massively.
-
I doubt the players base their performances on getting told off by the fans
-
You mean the game where we would have been 1-0 up at ht had guthrie not missed against a side who's scored 12 in the last 3 games. I think them both scrapping for the ball is specifically what makes us more of a threat when they play together. What strikeforce would be better than Carroll/Ranger at this point?
-
Its probably more of a case of us not playing to the guys strengths, more than him being completely awful. He doesnt suit how we're playing right now atall, thats the problem.
-
I could understand it, he was absolutely crap for long periods of time. Now at this level & after some goals he got some confidence again. Which he'll probably need to get back again following this injury, so he'll need a quick goal. Or it could be back to woeful.
-
Have to put Cardiff as favorites the way they're scoring right now. We'll have to improve a lot to keep up with them at this rate.
-
Couldnt be more obvious that we need to start Ranger. The time to give other new strikeforces a chance is when/if we're already in a winning position. Couldnt be a better time to play them, considering their form. They're leaking goals at the back, but showed theyre still a threat against Cardiff today. Ill go for 3-1 us

If they lose games they're going to play worse, hopefully this win will lift them again. The important thing is to turn around the results. We beat the side who are currently 2nd earlier in the season, we have the ability to beat anyone in this league. They just to keep their performances up & they've been dropping. Probably due to confidence more than anything.
-
Missed it. Class result for us really, not for quality of the opposition but just to turn around our slump. Cant believe i missed a last minute winner gutted. And again we win the game when Ranger comes on. Pretty sure some smart fella made an entire thread based on this a few days ago :smug:

We were near joint top scorers in the league not long ago, our scoring has only dropped off recently. We've been most dangerous with two big lads upfront though, our entire threat this season has been crosses & long balls. I can barely remember a goal that wasnt the result of one of those. The likes of lovenkrands are going to thrive more off passing football, he isnt going to offer an aerial threat to defenders, so theyd just double mark whichever big lad we use next to him. Harewood looks like he may be the similar so far, he doesnt put the defence under much pressure when its lumped high to him. Maybe because he cant be bothered, maybe cause he cant do it. But whenever we've used two then the opposition defence loses the ball more or makes mistakes. That gives chances to the striker that falls closest to/nolan. Outside of that our midfield hasnt changed very much since our last wins & our goalscoring has fallen apart. So i think its likely linked.
-
But im not sure our midfield was ever creating much? A lot of our goals this season have come from long balls & crosses. We should have a good midfield, but we mainly play long ball football for whatever reason. We havent stopped doing that at any point really, reading was the only game we passed it well i can remember. Even then all our goals were the result of crosses. So i think the problem is we're no longer using fowards together who can do much of use with these longballs. Ranger atleast alone seems to improve our ability to do something with them, the results back that up significantly.
-
Combination of that and Dropping Ranger because of us not dominating an in form QPR. Even though we were unlucky to not be winning that game, wasnt our best performance but hasnt compared atall to what we've tried since.
-
Well im not saying thats the pure reason we're losing. Obviously theres likely more to it, i constantly post that all over. But i think a good place to start would be to use a foward line up thats actually won us a game so far this season. Dont ya think?
-
Just read this post & made me think: So was wondering what our winning formula has been this season so far, atleast upfront as we have a lot of options now. Looked up the statsss & thought it was interesting. So here is the result: (this is based on these lineups staying like this for atleast 40 mins & what the results would have been in that time ignoring the rest of teh game.) So out of all of our wins. We've played Ameobi & Carroll upfront together twice and won twice. We've played Ameobi upfront alone once and won once. We've played Ranger upfront alone twice and won twice. We've played Carroll upfront alone twice & lost twice. We've played Carroll & Ranger upfront together 3 times, won Twice & drawn once. We've played Harewood & Lovenkrands together once and drawn once. Harewood & Carroll twice, lost once & drawn once. So based on the limited amount of info we have so far the answer is...... Dont play carroll upfront alone. Ranger upfront alone, Ameobi & Carroll or Ranger & Carroll is where we've had all of our wins. Lineups we havent used atall the past 3 games. <<< We should probably give Ranger/Carroll some time upfront together again. The last two games before QPR we played them together we scored 6 goals in two games. Then against QPR were unlucky - Missing a pen & them getting a deflected goal. Either that or Ranger & Harewood who havent had much real time together, but probably makes more sense to start with a lineup we've actually won games with. ?
-
Just realised over the last 4 games we have the joint 2nd worst form in the entire league. Even Ipswich have done better than us.
-
yes. They lose belief v easily & it falls apart.
-
It couldnt be more ludicruous. His decision making is just impossible to comprehend. Of all the times to make him manager, it wasnt now even if you were gonna do it.
-
Scunthorpe aren't even average, they were 7th bottom before tonight. Two games ago they lost to Plymouth. Who are 2nd from bottom. We've fallen, a lot.
-
Its not the same side, Colo & Taylor were out so we conceded two awful goals. We needed more cover/better players brought in/a manager who can bring in better players/whatever else you want. All of that can be put down to Ashley easily.
-
At this point we're completely fcked. Ashley will go when he decides to go, it couldnt be more out of our control. He could careless what we think. There is no way to do anything without destroying our promotion hopes also. We'll end up compounding negativity with more negativity like last season. Just have to sit through it all & keep going.
-
Id normally say that. But at this level, they shouldnt need that much time. They're not delivering much atall. They may have actually combined tonight to singlehandedly turn a win into a loss tonight.
-
Probably recommended to him by Allardyce. So yeah, a bit of a cock for not realising Allardyce is a complete clown when it comes to judging ability.
-
Last season doesnt point to these players or Hughton/Calderwood being people who can turn bad spells around ATALL. Thats what is worrying. The longer this goes on the harder it becomes.
-
The issue is morale as it was last season. We go on a bad streak, the players lose confidence & they stop playing it. Luck goes against us and it all goes tits up. Its the same everytime. We need a manager who can turn that around & lift players again, only Keegan has done that recently. These players lose faith in their ability vvvvvv quickly.
-
Cant see much that he did wrong. Clearly we started the game playing & passing it, so thats what they were instructed to do. The two goals come from mistakes, he cant do much about that. The players just aint playing. At best you can say he should have played 2 upfront, but nolans looking more dangerous than any of them right now. Its also massively hard to say much atall from radio coverage.
