I've been behind VAR but this Portugal games use of it has been the worst by far. Two ridiculously dodgy penalty calls that wouldn't be given normally.

Whats the point in this? Assuming its the English media leaking it. Literally no one needs to know the line up yet, bar our opposition. Purely accidentally one of the coaches notebooks got photographed Obviously, I mean what is the point from the media side of things in leaking it. Theres literally no benefit to England for the English media leaking news that could affect England's success. I find it bizarre how they wave stories like this around, as if they have to report on it & they're not being utter twats. Southgate's already touched on it anyway:

Just a farse - hate VAR. Why is it a farce the correct decision being made? Don't care about every decision being correct - I care about the flow and enjoyment of the game. And it ruins it. Nah, it's not that affecting to the game and it's far more important that correct decisions are made. If the linesman hadn't flagged for that and the goal just been allowed, what if that alone leads to Spain going out. That's fine because we can't be bothered to see a man put his finger to his ear for literally about 50 seconds? That makes no sense.

The bigger point should be that none of the first games at a world cup are easy regardless of who you play, we've seen that. There is then added pressure when you start really well & miss clear chances. There's then further pressure when you get a really random penalty against you. Just getting the win after coming through that is a great thing for confidence.

Southgate's Loftus Cheek sub was very good to be fair. Our mentality as a side just seemed to get way too affected by that random equaliser when we were so dominant. Hopefully that boosts them now, be good for Kane's confidence
