I doubt the term 'head coach' has anything to do with Americanism and more to do with the fact that they have little say over transfers (you coach and select your line-up with the players you are given) as opposed to the traditional 'managers' like Ferguson and Wenger where other aspects of the squad and transfers have to go through the manager.
