We finished 5th under Pardew and had a chance to do something, then failed to invest and were nearly relegated. We are going around in circles.

You're forgetting just one thing and that Ashley is a gambling man who doesnt like to lose. Be it now or next season through lack of investment or even just waiting until Rafa leaves and sticking Pardew back in charge, things are not going to change. Its like f***ing groundhog day.

All that is required is a little bit of backing, no £100 millions of pounds.. just enough to make us competitive. Saying we cant compete with Man City is absolute bullshit.. no one was asking for it, let alone expecting it. Rafa's version and Mikes version of events seem to be at odds with each other and I will back Rafa every single time. I honestly cannot see this ending well.. be it now or further down the line and the timing of it stinks.

I thought it might be telling that when Rafa was talking about Lejeune, he mentioned that he could compete for a spot against Clark and Lascelles. No mention of Mbemba, obviously already looked like Hanley would be on his way.

It could even possibly be Ashley has asked his chief negotiator Barnes to do the deals thinking he can get a better deal. But with football being a lot different to negotiating with failing companies with little choice he is failing miserably.

Or prices being ridiculous this summer. When they set the budget and how much goes to each player they probably didnt know the fees would be so high this summer. Especially if Prem players are being targeted Say Ashley said "here's 100m, do what you want" then Rafa picked 8 players he wants and would fit in budget, then all of a sudden we go to those 8 clubs and turns out 100m will only stretch to 5 of them. Takes time to sort that and get to the 2nd/3rd/4th choices. I'm not convinced Murphy would have been one of the first choices.
