We are in desperate need of a defensive midfielder, we only have one and thats Hayden! Am I living in the Twilight Zone? We, at least, have Merino for that role as well. You don't really need two out and out Kante types either imo. I just think striker and goalkeeper are far far more pressing. Merino isnt really a defensive midfielder though is he? I certainly wouldnt trust Merino to play in a 2 man midfield with Shelvey

I don't think the club anticipated just how difficult it would be to get rid off unwanted players It was always going to be tough selling the likes of Riviere but to be a couple of days away from the first game of the season with still so much deadwood on the books has been a suprise

Is Jota better than Perez?

Wont be playing left back imo

Must've hated it when they had Big Sam in. Weird how they keep calling him 'overweight' and 'obese'

No, Shelvey doesn't have the mobility Gerrard had. It's nice to theorize these things i get it, but it's not at all realistic. You sound like you're talking down to Nut, Not sure why he's so confident it won't happen Rafa seems obsessed with 4-2-3-1 but not sure anyone can be so sure that all 3 wont play -

Shelvey and Merino ( at least from the little i have seen of him) are best from deep, they need someone to act as a link between themselves and the striker. Gayle will get isolated in such a scenario, unless we can regularly get the wingers in advanced positions which is very unlikely. Of course i'm talking about against Spurs, against Verona it doesn't matter. For the above reasons Rafa will not play those 3 together in a competitive game and neither should he. Both Merino and Shelvey have said they prefer to play advanced in midfield... Also in a 4-3-3 Ritchie and Murphy would play further forward and support Gayle -
