Pre-Season 2018/19: Newcastle United 0 - 1 FC Augsburg (FT)

It was nothing special mate. De Jong fluffed a few chances. Some of them still need to get a bit sharper Aarons. Mbemba was tested at RB and was fairly poor ahead of him Atsu wasnt setting the place on fire. Personally I thought the second side was better than the first half side. We saw Callum Roberts get a short stint down the left he looked ok. Top of the bunch were Lejeune who was fairly solid and made very little errors passing out from the back. Shelvey was standard usual good display, Dwight Gayle was like a man possessed running all over, he seemed to have bulked up maybe for the prem facing stronger defences? Mitro did ok won lots of flicks took his goal well and also smashed one of the inside of the post, which looked like his second goal as we all jumped about to find it wasnt a goal. Murphys debut was nothing special looks like he is still getting used to his new team mates, ahead of Yedlin that right side looked very threatening, but he switched for the final 15 for the introduction of Manquillo, Murphy looks rapid mind, I also thought Yedlin was class. Still looks like we need to shift a fair few on,some youths out on loan and maybe flog Hanley, Diame. Also Dummett needs some competition for that LB spot, theres nobody knocking on the door. Cheers, sorry cant be bothered to rate them individually. It was nothing special. Those mentioned probably an 8 the rest 6s or 7s Cheers mate ? -
Until we sell players and get rid off the deadwood we won't be bringing in the players we want We are struggling to get rid off the deadwood

Woodman Yedlin. Lejuvne. Clark. Dummett Shelvey. Hayden Ritchie. Perez Murphy Gayle Hopefully? -
I would take Wilshere 100%, play 4-3-3 with him, Shelvey and a proper defensive midfielder

Why do we need to get rid of deadwood first? If the money's there we should spend it. Then if someone wants to buy our deadwood we can shift them as and when. It just doesnt work like that man.... How big of a squad do you think we can have? Do you want the wage budget so high that it becomes unsustanable? The way the club is run our budget will be surplus money only, I would have thought the wages being paid are already accounted for before Rafa is told you have X amount to spend. So yes we'll have extra bodies, but we should be able to buy players in and then work on shifting those who no longer figure for this season. Then work on shifting those no who longer figure for this season? Thats what the club have been trying to do since the transfer window opened, thats the problem, we are struggling to get rid of these players If we sign players like Gibbs etc on high wages and fail to shift deadwood like Riviere, Hanley etc then our wage budget will be unsustanable. I know its frustrating but I dont think the club are willing to take the risk of spending big whilst we have so many players on our books The additional problem that we have is that I doubt many (if any) clubs want our failed players and if they do it'll be for a pittance. Ashley wants to make money back on every purchase, which means we're stuck with some of the s*** we've bought, like Riviere for example. Yup I think the club is willing to admit that they are going to make a loss on players like Riviere, but we still have far too many players that other clubs dont want Until these players leave, Benitez wont able to spend big and bring in the targets that he wants

TBF I think that's just how football clubs work by default. We won't just stockpile players we don't have a squad number for. That would include players like Gamez, Lazaar, Diame and Hanley then who were brought in by Rafa. Is the club then saying "you wanted these players, now we have to shift them if you want any new players"? To a certain extent Yes

“You need to adjust the team. “Then hopefully we can bring some players and add to what we are looking for.” This is important, a big reason we havent made the signings we want yet is that we havent been able to get rid of the deadwood as of yet
