Not wanting to tempt fate but Hall has been so calm defensively
-
Love to see Big Joe smash him
-
Got to get Murphy off here he's been Everton's best defensive player
-
Fuck !!
-
Pen surely for the foul on Tonali
-
Everton are just playing long ball over the top or the diagonal for Calvert Lewin on Trippier. Nothing our lads haven't seen hundreds of times and we should be far better at dealing with it.
-
Trippier's starting position going forward is generally too high and Murphy isn't smart enough to adjust . They're often occupying the same box of space on the right side. It's killing anything down there . Would love Howe to try Willock on the right

It's one game . Where the vast majority of the players that played looked poor and in 1st gear . We've seen games where Isak can look completely isolated with little to no service so even more difficult for an inexperienced player to make an impression. Showed for the ball and did a nice little turn to get in at one point. There's enough there to encouraged by the potential.

The season we finished 4th we went away to league 2 Tranmere and huffed and puffed our way through and never looked like a top class side. Pretty sure it was the game Krafth got his bad injury
-
We should have control of this without having to risk key players.
-
Ref's really poor
-
Tactically today we were spot on. The City goal comes from Trippier diving in and as well as Gvardiol does for the goal he does get lucky with the ball going through Tonali's legs. We do also seem to be one of the few teams able to negate Haaland somewhat.

All the tools for a top class wide player but can't read the manual .

Good and bad . The good : nearly scored, made several key defensive interceptions and headers. The bad : caught in possession at least twice, this has been recurrent problem in games and needs sorting. That being said in the "big"games I'm starting him , Bruno and Tonali. I think in games where we want to break teams down more who are sitting in it should be Willock rather than big Joe.

Great performance, Eddie top notch tactically. Anthony Gordon back at it. Hall's best game in black and white,Trippier's best this season and Tonali showing he has to starting in the middle of the park. A good point. Howay The Lads !! Howay Darren Eales !!
-
Hall already looks a far better player than when he started the season
-
Wish he'd put willock on for Murphy here
-
Huge spell for us this . Have to get another.
-
Gordon's back !

Tactically and performance wise we've been really positive and most balanced in the midfield we've looked all season. Tonali dropping into the defensive third has to be pursued going forwards. Just a few individual mistakes with trippier (best he's looked this season) diving in and Pope with his terrible footwork. A good committed positive second half and we can get something here

Successful clubs by and large have to have everyone aligned, the odd side like Chelsea or Real Madrid seems to thrive in chaos, we never have. I think when we had Staveley with Eddie and then Ashworth it was clear what everybody's roles were and Howe seemed very comfortable within that. I'm sure until recently his nephew was heavily involved in the scouting and recruitment whether that's now been changed and led to some of this politicking that's been leapt on by the media is unclear. It's only natural that when there are seismic changes at the club (new Chief Exec, new Sporting Director, this Fitness guru, people you have a great working relationship leaving) it's going to create a degree of uncertainty as everyone finds there best way of working. Eddie's not Mitchell or Eales's man but he is the Reubens and Pif's and ultimately in football those that control the money decide. I do think Howe is giving the impression that he's not as assured as he was in previous seasons both in his media interviews and in his decision making football wise. He also seems far more emotive when we do win then in in the past. Then you have the players themselves. We're still hugely affected by the awful run of injuries of last season and we do have in some key positions an aging squad that was primarily built to avoid relegation. The younger players that used up so much of our PSR allowance last season haven't quite settled into being assured first team players. The ones that have, such as Harvey Barnes have in their own way created a further set of problems in that you have great players who are scrapping for one slot or being forced to play out of their preferred position whilst other areas of the starting side seem almost neglected such is their lack of strength. Then you have the anachronisms of things like Tonali's ban and reintegration to consider. The regular footballing happenings like players still finding their way back to form after said injuries and then again an anachronism of a hot streak of someone like Miggy which wasn't anticipated and can't be counted on to be replicated. The player rebuild was never fully completed or as comprehensive as it might and perhaps should have been as to Howe's credit he was able to marshal the unhappy, unfit and misused players of the Bruce reign into players who could still be key contributors at an exceptionally high level . Again you're always going to see some sort of regression or leveling off the longer they remain in the squad and the fact they haven't been refreshed at a quicker rate shows the naivety of all concerned. The fact PSR and it's impact led to emergency action this summer again shows that naivety as well as some poor past judgements. Champion's League and the fourth place so quickly after the managed decline of the Mike Ashley years has brought everything into sharper focus before we were ready for it in terms of both our own expectations and also wider coverage. We're now seen as a club to frighten the likes of the old "big six" status quo and the longer we go without establishing ourselves as one of a big seven the more the pressures will rise. Despite all this we've had a great run of results which is a credit to the character of the players and the acumen of the manager but it's been an August and September of papering over the cracks . These next six or seven games seem like they could define the direction of our season , Howe's future here and perhaps the direction of the club itself.

Where we want to go next (consistently a top four side) is the hardest jump for teams and managers to make.

It's been coming. You can't play like we've been and pull it out the fire every time but even today if Schar scored or squares it for Isak we get summat and I make us favourites to win. Some players are getting by on reputation and you can't tell me Howe knows what his best side is . Everything lately seems to be throw it at the wall till something sticks. Defence is a mess and the defensive portion of the midfield is also a mess. We seem to exhibit no control over games and then have to have the shit or bust approach. It's not good enough and they've all got away for it for the second half of last season and the start of this. Isak is completely isolated for large swathes of the play and only gets played in on breakaways, if we want to do well this season again that has to change. I've said before we use Isak like he's Wilson and the 4-3-3 whichever personnel are being used is too fragile when we're not pressing or don't have the pace in the back line to press up the park. Eddie's one of the best managers we've had and now he needs to show it. Stop playing favourites and start picking on performance and effort also if players are not fit. Don't play them. This isn't the place for prima donnas we want to be winners. Time to act like it and tossing off points at Fulham is certainly not it. Expect a big performance midweek and a committed focused United Newcastle against City.

How's that off ?
