I know it's not a trophy but a country the size of Croatia finishing 2nd in a World Cup is a pretty good achievement

Half a million more people than Uruguay who've been in the World Cup 13 times, winning it twice. Free from Yugoslavia, Croatia's record is mint.

Scotland's population is 1.5m more as well

Where would you expect us to be after 4 years? Personally, I'm expecting something along these lines:

    2022/23-bouncing around between 6th & 11th place

2023/24-bouncing between 4th-10th place but finishing in the lower half of that spectrum

2024/25-A real sustained challenge for the top 4

2025/26-Genuine top 4 team, we may finish 5th but say on the last day or by a point or two

    2026/27-Possible challenge for the league

Seems reasonable. There'll be no major overhaul because...

    a) it costs a fortune and, more importantly..

    b) doesn't work

Given that timeline there's a huge number of that squad will stay, improve, do a job

  3. Whilst not unexpected its a bit unhelpful people slating, virtually, the whole squad.

In reality, imho, there's going to be 4 signings per window. Ish.

Anything else is, as I say, unrealistic but also won't work.

Has to be transitional. 3-4 years.

  4. Canny thread.

Exposure of people who don't understand the difference between socialism and communism.

Exposure of people who appear to have violent tendencies.

    btw

Wasn't it one of the unwashed actually did invest in a rat? Took it along to restaurants to release for a blackmail free scran?

or in Sunderland put a netto bag over your head and breathe in till you can't any more!

Tbf they had a cryo chamber, admittedly only used by Bain, whilst we had wheely bins and a paddling pool

Literally loads off the top of my head aye. All much worse than this. Cantona as mentioned above, Bellamy, Evra, Diouf, Aguero, Neymar, Dida. That's just off the top of my head, which included kicks, spitting etc. There's likely 100's of examples.

Ronaldo slapped someones hand. I'm not saying it's acceptable, it's just been blown out of proportion.

I agree. It's not like he raped some lass, paid her off and made her sign a NDA.

One of the English teachers at blaydon comp was known as pineapple heed. He used to her quite upset about it. Probably a really nice fella on reflection. Just had to deal with barely civilised kids.

Self appointed arbiter of anti-racism, relentlessly unfunny David Baddiel, bullied a black footballer after blacking up and sporting a pineapple head.

Clearly he doesn't yet have the achievements but Howe joins the likes of Keegan, Robson and Benitez in that when they speak about football, you just want to stop and listen because you just know it'll be worth listening to.

Just talks so well and no matter how things turn out I can't imagine ever screaming at the TV in frustration like I did whenever Pardew, Bruce and Carver ever stood in front of the cameras.

Pal was a subscriber to the Times so got us tickets to their talk-in at the Tyneside Cinema with Caulkin and Rafa etc.

I could listen to that bloke (Rafa) for ever. A gentleman, scholar and so eloquent.

Eddie's the same. Every word considered.

Bruce, like Carver, is just Mongo from Blazing Saddles

Back from a warm-weather training camp in Dubai, Newcastle are ready to refocus. “There was team bonding, some meals, but there was a lot of training and a game,” Lascelles said. “Straight after training, we’d go and do a 30-minute spinning session. The facilities were crazy — cryotherapy chambers and ice baths.

Hearing they bought one from SAFC, cut price. Martin Bain still in it.

Probably fair to say most of the genuinely good players they've had aside from Phillips had their best years at other clubs (Defoe, Bent, Henderson, Shackleton :shifty:)

Venison, Bracewell, Bramble, Clark, Howey etc etc

I wonder how much our stance is being driven by PIF in not wanting to pay compensation. Based on personal experience, the Saudi's may have a lot of money but they also like to  drive a hard bargain and to haggle in negotiations.

I imagine in general, Saudi's must be used to companies chancing their luck when an initial offer is made before a more realistic compromise is found. I also used to wonder how much of a tradition it is in Bedouin culture to bargain before a deal is struck.

In MY, albeit limited, view of Saudi/Middle East business conduct it's all about the backhander. Not a la Will Smith. More FSA.
