Winter is such a weird bloke

Honestly, as someone who works in sports media, this is such bog standard language when journos are looking to fill word counts [emoji38]

Copious amounts of performance enhancing drugs...or covid obviously.

I kind of assumed it was the drugs/supplements they were taking now but it seems to happen more than other sports where that would ostensibly happen as well.

Update on Luton's website about Tom Lockyer (sorry if its already been posted):

We are able to provide a further, positive update on Tom Lockyer’s condition.

Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher.

He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides.

Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside.

We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern and loving messages for Locks.

We all hope and pray for our leader and captain Tom Lockyer, who is thankfully responsive and has been taken to hospital.

We don’t know the full extent of what happened and what the next steps are at this stage, but we thank Bournemouth and the medical staff on both sides for their immediate response, which was absolutely amazing.

We are sorry to all supporters present that players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue with the game after seeing their much-loved team-mate and friend taken off like that, and staff could not carry on with managing the game in such circumstances having had to deal with the situation.

We thank everyone for the wonderful applause and singing of Locks’ name inside the stadium at such a difficult time.

Now is the time for all of our players, staff and supporters to come together as we always do and give our love and support to Tom and his family.

Our thoughts are with him and them all.

I feel this could very much be a "back in my day" take, but I honestly don't remember players collapsing on the pitch until Marc-Vivien Foe? I could be totally wrong but this seems to be happening more often and I'm curious what the reason behind it is.

“I can understand why they (the Newcastle fans) were angry because they haven’t got into a cup for a very long time. But football’s not everything, there are ways of making money. Reselling things is not illegal. I put it up on my Instagram story to try to make money but I can understand why they’re a bit pissed. But it’s not me, it’s the person above me. I understand it but it’s still stupid from them… they just wanted to make a scene.”

What an absolute lost cause he is.

The whole interview comes across as "it's not really my fault" and that he hasn't learned a single thing from any of these events.

It did remind me that Mark Viduka now owns and runs a coffee shop, which I find slightly hilarious.

I only listened to the first half disclaimer but it’s the usual

    - Waugh almost crying as he refuss to watch international football.
    - The return of Waugh likes sausages and should host a meat podcast.

    - I ripped people off for a jolly to Belgium and will mention it but not like that.

I've listened to some other teams' Athletic podcasts and even the bad ones are miles ahead of Pod on the Tyne. It desperately needs the Old Yeller treatment.

I agree totally. Add it to the list of absolutely shite things about modern football.

NB. I actually have a list. I decided to jot it all down at the start of the season as a therapeutic exercise, it was good. Observe terrible handwriting:

The handwriting is horrific (mine is just as bad) but the cup is fantastic. I definitely read “beholden” in the 6th point as “bladder” [emoji38]

It’s a good move for him. He’s helped the national team massively. I think a bit too much blame is being laid at his door for Canada not doing well at the World Cup, and by his and others admission, they probably qualified too early. They certainly suffered to not being able to play European or South American teams in friendlies.

Apparently Forge FC manager Bobby Smyrniotis is an early favourite for the Canada job, he was also an early favourite for the Toronto FC job.

That and our federation being broke contributed to the move as well. Gotta love an FA that says “we’re broke” then immediately tried to backtrack that.
