They say a lot of Gateshead is Sunderland fans? factually does anyone know if that’s right? I know a lot of Heed fans many from Springwell who are staunch NUFC fans as well. .
Anyone got any facts on it?
Since they are fewm in @Heron Wor Flags

Doesn't matter in the foreseeable future, imho, when NUFC won cups and leagues while SAFC folded into obscurity

I’d much rather have 3 north east teams doing decently well personally. Don’t get me wrong, SOME Sunderland fans are absolute whoppers (but we have plenty ourselves). But largely they’re normal nice north east folk who don’t deserve to have to sit through shit like that week in week out.
They can always support Newcastle. Why support Sunderland when you have the richest club next door?

At this rate we might get a penalty.
That would be excellent tho. If NUFC can get penalty match in match out that would help NUFC alot.

Yes that's what I think would happen, Saudi will sell NUFC because they are being pressured by the football fans in all of England. The FA will force them too I think. It either they sell NUFC or risk it being taken by the FA/Government.
I think they will focus their investment on another league, Barceloba maybe....?
-
So, when the Saudi will sell NUFC? I heard that the UK will ban Saudi's too?

It's not that far fetched that at some point the Saudis will cross a line and the west cant turn a blind eye anymore.
If you are certain that this couldnt happen to us, you're dreaming.
I'm glad that you prove my point that if/when the "barbaric" saudi attack a white european country then it crosses the line. But when they bombing the brown yemenis it's not.
What "line" it is? I let people guess themselves...
-
As long as Saudi dont attack a white european country, UK government would do nothing about NUFC's ownership.
So, for anyone who worried that this thing that happen to Chelsea could happen to NUFC: relax it wont! Because as "barbaric" as the Saudi's are, they're not stupid. Clearly not stupid enough to attack white european country anywhere in the future.
For anyone waiting enthusiastically, keep waiting... maybe your hope of fans ownership or whatever could happen in world dominated by capitalist ideology.

Explain the difference to me between the US and the UK killing millions of Iraqi's and Afghan's in their appalling war for a 'democracy' and Vladimir Putin attempting the seize the Ukraine by force - Go ahead,
The difference: because afghan iraq etc are brown people mozlem countries.
While ukraine is white judeo chrustian countries.
There I said it. Ban me.
The same thing goes with why saudi is barbaric when bombing yemen while american and british are noble when they bomb iraqi and aghani children

Should add "No! You cant remove leazes terraces brick by brick!" To the title

I mean i do get that there is more to it than sportwashing etc, but the idea that owning NUFC will lead to progressive values in Saudi Arabia feels a bit far fetched to me.
Actually I agree with you on this. I doubt owning NUFC will change Saudi's value.

What is the issue with ‘sportswashing’ anyway? The cynicism people have over the takeover isn’t matched by reality. If it’s a real thing it’s not hiding human rights abuses and making Saudi Arabia falsely appear to be a progressive state. If it changes opinions it’s clearly at a pretty small scale. We make up a very small minority of football fans in England alone the world, so I really doubt the opinions of such a small group really mean that much to them or has the power to creative a grossly false misrepresentation of what the country is like.
They are diversifying their economy and investing in sport like the other gulf states do to create economic development in the long run. The human rights abuses are sadly still there and are a problem irrespective of the takeover. I don’t feel overly comfortable with the takeover, but despite a small minority of fans now defending KSA and dancing around with tea towels on their hands, it’s not really the ‘sportswashing’ that concerns me.
This is why the notion of Saudi's sportwashing is a ridiculous notion. They dont care about sportwasing. What they do really care is, in the word of Bill Cosby, "money money money money..." and more "money money money money"
But as I said a few posts back, the level of hypocrisy of you brits and americans are on another level you will never grasp that.

indeed.
I find the hypocritical nature of Brits and Americans weird too....

Do you support Newcastle?
Yes, and I dont mind the sportwashing, because I think the notion of sportwashing by Saudi is ridiculuos. And I dont mind the blood money because frankly I thought Saudi money isnt bloody at all. If Saudi money is bloody, every other money will be bloody too.
So, I'm not a hypocrite at least.
-
So you dont want saudi ownership and definitely dont want the sportwashing element of it. But you still will celebrate the NUFC success in the future that essentially sportwashing success in nature? And you definitely will still support NUFC even if it being funded by blood money?

We couldn't get the fans to protest against the universally loathed Mike Ashley. The PIF takeover had 97% approval from the supporters trust. I was against the takeover and don't want the PIF part owning the club I support, but I'd rather try selling garlic in Transylvania than try selling no PIF ownership to Newcastle supporters.
If that's the case, in my opinion, to avoid looking like a hypocrite: every fans who against the saudi ownership and sportwashing should not celebrate NUFC success. Or stop supporting NUFC all together.

Fanciful thinking unfortunately
Not that fanciful. If every fans in every home game make their opinion on Saudi ownership clear, that the fans dont want their bloody money and their backward culture on NUFC, eventually the Saudi will grow tired and sold NUFC.
If fans dont want the sportwasing side, they should not want and reject the money and the success that the sportwashing will bring too.
If I was Salman, I will sold NUFC or give it for free amd buy another club that will accept the sportwashing and succes happily, like maybe Man Utd with their plastic fans or maybe Sunderland
-
Yeah indeed. Hopefully they (the Saudi) realise that this is a futile exercise and sold NUFC as soon as possible to more noble owner with high moral standard. Maybe the fans group or some local bussinessman.
-
Basing my opinion on Russian thread, it's of no use to post video like this. People wont watch it, and people will still have the same miss conception, and you will be called Saudi bot.
-
But, do not forget: all of this is a form of "Sportwashing". Do not ever forget that NUFC fans!
Whatever good things the saudi did, it's a form of "Sportwashing". So it ackthually a bad and evil things.
The foundation, food bank charity, buying the right players for NUFC, hiring the right manager, building a new stadium or renovating the current one, building the academy, supporting the NUFC Woman team... all are "Sportwashing" and bad and evil thing the saudi done on NUFC's name.
