  1. Honestly I won’t be shocked if they give him a year.

However, if FFP rules are to be relaxed then I can’t see this consortium putting full trust in him to spend big and we might only have 2 seasons of that so why would they waste that opportunity.

He took us to safety, exceeding all expectations. Whatever happens he can never be spoken of as being the worst manager we’ve ever had, far from it actually.

  2. Does anyone know what percentage of the company they are buying?

I mean it’s not going to mean much if it’s like 1%, but if it’s 10% or more then that’s a pretty big stake they will own.

They can think again if they think this means I’ll get an EE contract though, not a chance.

Anything over 5% and they would have to notify the exchange. So it’s less than that.

They have been buying up shares for a few weeks now though. I don’t think it’s as significant as the piracy crackdown announcement though.

  3. Honestly didn’t see lots to be worried about when they played Villa the other night. They could well be tired after that too (Arsenal were against Brighton..)

No way of knowing what sort of team we’ll be until the match starts but we’re capable of beating better teams than them when things click.

Being wildly optimistic I’m going to go with us going 2-0 up and then giving a goal away with 10 minutes to go, falling to pieces but somehow holding on in true Steve Bruce jammy luck style

    2-1

  4. All common sense is telling me that they don’t have sufficient grounds to reject it, yet there’s this niggling feeling that they will reject it anyway.

It’s an absolute clusterfuck. I’m feeling total despair at the thought of more seasons of Mike Ashley, yet this time without a pot to piss in. Grim.

  5.

I was reading that. It seems significant that he would do that now, he hasn’t been apologetic about it at all for over a decade. Timing is odd.

He’s due to give evidence in the trial. Does his resignation have any bearing on Barclays case?

  6. Well overall I think the day could have gone a lot worse. Seems to me the PL still have a bit of leverage with KSA and that’s ultimately what the hold up is. How can it benefit them to approve it?

I think an assurance to make a similar bid that Qatar did for PL rights next time round will be happening in back channels. Dastardly Dick Masters didn’t claw his way up from the cricket board to where he is now by not being as corrupt as everyone that’s gone before him. I’m certain of it

  7. This line from the BBC report doesn't make great reading mind:

"But in its judgement, issued on Tuesday, the WTO found that Saudi Arabia had facilitated the beoutQ operation and had "acted in a manner inconsistent" with international law protecting intellectual property rights."

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53068494

Again, it doesn’t say that in the WTO report. I’ve found the bbc journos to be way off on this story over the last few weeks.

  8. One thing I don’t understand is all the excitement from the journalists that this is being released at 3, the premier league has had the draft report for weeks already.

Supposedly Qatar sent them a copy of it, or their lawyers sent them a document containing parts of the report (the bits they wanted the PL to be influenced by perhaps) - no way of knowing.

It’s supposed to be a confidential report with only the interested parties being privy to. The PL are not an interested party as far goes the complaint (even though it does relate to their product)

So I would imagine the PL have been waiting for the full report (from the source) to be released so their lawyers can pour over it.

Let’s just speculate that Qatar have shown them a reason to block the takeover, so now they’ll be looking through it for a reason to pass it?

  9. He didn't say anything of the sort. He was interviewing Roberto Azevêdo from the WTO who said there would be a ruling, but wouldn't be drawn on when or if it had already been made, and said it would be between the two countries to come to a resolution.

This is what I saw too. I actually think there's a lot to be optimistic about. KSA cant just ignore this report and its findings and will need to seek a resolution with Qatar. Qatar too will want reparations and so surely it stands to reason that once that has been resolved the takeover will be free to be pushed through.

It would explain why the PL.havent rejected it yet, it seems to me that they're waiting for the report to be released so that that can be resolved which would leave them free to ok the takeover without repercussions from both sides.

Thing is though KSA can just ignore this report. They don’t have to come to a resolution with their regional rival/ enemy Qatar if they don’t want to.

Am I correct in thinking that BeoutQ was still in operation (officially) when Qatar made the complaint to the WTO?

The fact that it’s been all but shut down now must play into the judgement. It would be unprecedented to declare that KSA had a direct hand in building/distributing the platform, and I don’t think they could find any evidence of that anyway.

So at worst all they can say is that they took too long in shutting it down.

I think the language will be balanced in the report. At the end of the day they want to resolve the dispute. Being overly critical of KSA won’t achieve that.

With that in mind I can’t see how the PL can take that as a smoking gun to fail the O&D’s test.

Think they’re just waiting for it because that’s what they have to do.
