It's not meant as a criticism - I think Anderson is a very talented player, and hopefully will be a part of the first team squad from years to come. But he isn't playing 4th tier defenders at the moment - he needs to be (and is) far more careful re taking risks.

Before this season, Sunderland has shared a division with a Welsh club on 47 occasions (some seasons more than one club were with them). So that's 94 matches + 4 Cup Winners' Cup games (I can't be arsed to find out how many FA & League Cup games vs Welsh opposition they've had!). So we've still played far more European games than them, even if you allow for games vs Welsh teams for them and not for us

It was as if those missed chances followed by a sucker punch just completely deflated them; their confidence and game plan went to pieces. What followed was a late-era Pardew NUFC style performance - they played half-arsed and like complete strangers.

Yep, that's pretty much where I am. NUFC played well after the first - but they absolutely collapsed. That was as pathetic a performance as you'll ever see at this level - Sheff Utd were utter dogshit. The amount of space in midfield and the centre of their defence was incredible. Newcastle still have to play well to exploit and punish them - and they did - but we didn't need to play at our peak (and we didn't) to get the biggest league away win in our history. If I was a Sheff Utd fan I'd be fucking fuming at how pathetic they were.
