You are David Mellor and I claim my £5
-
Me too. It was a depressing benchmark of our status relative to Everton’s at the time.
-
You see, I knew playing with midfielders was a bad idea. FFS what a waste of money

The lad clearly has worked on his game to fit into the new NUFC. It’s a shame he’s so injury prone. But if I ask the question - ‘would Eddie Howe buy ASM if he was playing elsewhere?’ - I would guess that the answer would be a massive ‘no’. So I still think there’s a good chance he goes to free up funds.
-
I think there’s a good footballer there in Gordon. The lad’s had half a season having left a shitshow at Everton. His comments re fitness made sense to me in terms of how badly we were managed by Bruce - it took Howe & his team a few months for their training and fitness regimes to start reaping rewards from the squad (by the end of Jan last year there were voices saying Howe had failed). We’ll know if the lad has been a successful signing in around two or three seasons time - he deserves patience.

I think it’s more that it is clear that while a huge % of players are black, a tiny proportion of them end up getting jobs in coaching or management. And that the crowds at football don’t reflect the make up of the local population. Most black footballers playing in England are English, but there is clearly a problem as very few end up in management or in high position within football administration

That’s still a budget tbf

100%. They’re the daft cunts who count the number of SAFC tops they’ve seen in the Metro Centre, then go back and tell their mates about it like it’s a fucking achievement
-
Yeah, I completely agree - it’s why I have a resigned feeling about the ownership more than owt else. As the game stands, we need this type of ownership to compete with others who’ve had huge investment. NUFC could compete on a level playing field, of course - but if it isn’t there, then we need the football ownership equivalent of steroids

I’ve said on here a few times he ‘feels’ like a Spurs player - and exactly what you’ve written is a part of that for me -

Spot on for me ? -
I’d love it. I don’t think NUFC should be allowed to field a squad of players without at least one mercurial French winger in it - and ASM is often linked with a move away
-
I’m with you on this one tbh. This is probably the best moment to maximise cash value for Miggy.

I’m happy to say that I can see where you’re coming from re African & SA players looking elsewhere - no-one should be putting up with racist abuse anywhere in life, let alone on a football pitch. My point was always that I’m not bothered if English clubs can’t compete for the best players if it means we have better ownership models. I’ve no issue re the nationality of the players playing for NUFC - and the money reducing wouldn’t see a reduction in the number of foreign-born players playing would be my guess. I’m aware of course where tribalism can lead - but for me in football terms it’s mainly good-natured. Go to the Sunderland thread if you want to see what I mean - that’s tribalism but it’s just piss-taking rather than venom.
-
I’ve never reported you nor anyone else - I’d rather just call you a prick and have done with it. ‘Don’t start with me’ - you’re not my mam. You completely misinterpreted what I said and decided to call me a racist - and everyone else with the same nationality by proxy. I said that I don’t care if the money leaves English football as I don’t watch it because of the money attracting the world’s best players. I absolutely did not suggest that I wanted an all-white English league. You decided to apply that interpretation.
-
Tribalism isn’t fucking racism you fucking tit. I was talking about being from Newcastle therefore supporting Newcastle irrespective of the quality of the team you’re watching. It isn’t fucking race-based. People watching their local team regardless of whether they’re the world’s best side or bottom of the fourth division.
-
To be clear: I’ve no issue with a KSA national playing for NUFC, moving next door to me, or marrying my daughter. Besides, if my other half and I had a daughter she’d be mixed-race, so it would be odd if I started banging on about racial purity, like the big daft racist that I am. I don’t like dictatorships putting money into football clubs - even my own. I’d rather this did not exist.

It’s lain under the surface without ever going away - the ‘you can’t say anything these days’ brigade lacked a political mouthpiece. But the whole ‘I know what you all really think’ shite … If I came from somewhere which just recently nearly voted in Bolsonaro for a second term, I’d be careful about sweeping statements. I don’t think all Brazilians are racists and homophobes because they decided to vote in a racist homophobe.
