A competent manager, a change in shift of just buying kids and a model coming to fruition of bringing players in and allowing them to go for a higher price so funds can be reinvested properly. EDIT : BTW I am not saying it's all rosy, We are going to have setbacks. Football clubs always do, especially when you are relying on a core group with an average age of about 21, but it looks more promising now than it did before.

It warps your sense of judgement so that you can't have any debate or reasoning whatsoever between normal football fans. 95% of genuine football fans know that you would beat us and are currently light years ahead of us, The gap is only going to increase as you are financially backed by a superpower, and we err, aren't. Sunderland fans at the moment have a right to be proud of our side, regardless of how shite and rubbish you deem us to be. The club has transformed over the last three to four years, We were watching absolute plodders in League One after back to back relegations. For the first time in years we seem to have a plan in place and it's good to see. We can't just go out and buy off the shelf, ready made players so have to be slightly more creative in how we operate. The sooner you realise all Sunderland fans aren't a version that you have decided to create in your own mind based on the internet, the better.

Whilst I agree there is a percentage of absolute nuggets that follow us, Rigg genuinely is a generational talent. He wont be here very long put it that way, Just have to enjoy him whilst he is.

The team that played last night is the back up players from within the first team squad. The ironic thing about the comment in bold is the fact that from those that featured last night, They would have played even less last season if it wasn't for long injury layoffs for the likes of Alese, Huggins, Cirkin, Seelt, Evans and Clarke.

If your deeming 'featuring' by sitting with splinters in their arse on the bench then aye, they have 'featured', When you are allowed 9 subs, pretty much all of your squad would then 'feature' For context, :- Pemebele, 3 starts, 5 appearances off the bench Hjelde, 10 starts, 1 appearance off the bench Rigg, 8 starts, 6 appearances off the bench Ba, 13 starts, 8 appearances off the bench Aouchiche, 10 starts, 15 appearances off the bench Mundle, 5 starts, 6 appearances off the bench Rusyn, 9 starts, 7 appearances off the bench So not one player even played in half of the games, Not one of those players will even start in a weeks time against Cardiff (possibly Rigg aside) The majority of the above only featured off the bench and were given starts towards the end of the season because we had a coach who had zero idea of what he was doing and chucked anything on the pitch to see if something would work. It's the equivalent of me stating Targett, Dummett and Krafth 'featured weekly' for you last season.

We have a canny first 11 when everyone is fit, Just lack depth, but the depth should come from bringing in better players than what we have now which pushes the current starters to come off the bench. Alot of work to be done between now and the close of the window.

Well it totally depends if theyre going to flex this ‘model’ and not be as restrictive on what the manager can and cant do if they get the job. In an ideal world someone like Cooper or Still, however I dont think they’d work under not being allowed their own coaching team, little say on transfers etc It will probably be someone like Heckingbotttom.

I dont expect anything from Dodds either, They need to get to the summer and look at appointing someone actually fit for purpose. Beale was dreadful and its mental he was even given the job in the first place.

One of our best seasons was finishing 13th under Keane in the PL and you weren't even in the same league, Our best finish in years was 10th under Bruce and we lost the derby 5-1 and only managed a point with a last minute equaliser in the home leg. To suggest the reason we were eventually relegated because Newcastle were already down and we had 'nothing to focus on' is absolutely bananas, We were relegated that season because of the reasons I posted above. There's absolutely no argument that the manager bounce seasons papered over the cracks, Everyone is / was well aware of that and we would have 100% been down sooner had we stuck with one of the managers, again though suggesting that because their was no derby eventually sealed our fate is mental. We finished bottom, winning 6 games all season and signed absolute garbage. Generally how things work is that if managers aren't doing very well, They get sacked. We have continiously employed shite managers and therefore, they've been sacked. How many managers have we had that have been sacked have went on to other clubs and done well? I can't think of one, Advocaat maybe and he was here 5 minutes. All managers we have peddled have went on to be peddled by numerous other clubs, The issue is continuously who we have brought in.

I'm not sure what you are asking, We didn't go down under any of them managers. I was responding to the poster who said we went down because we didn't have the derbies to focus on, Which is an absolute load of bollocks and one of the most mental things I have heard for our demise in recent years.

Ha'way man We went down because our manager was poached for the England job, We then appointed Moyes who stated after two games we were in a relegation battle. We allowed Moyes to go out and completely dismantle absolutely everything that Allardyce had built since he was in charge. Moyes signed absolute dross like all of his ex-Everton chums, Pienaar, Oviedo, Gibson and bought one of the worst pound for pound players in our history in N'Dong when we could have had M'Vila for less than half the price. He also continuously played another ex-Everton mate in Rodwell who was the worst signing in our entire history. He spent 8M on Djilobodji who looked like he had won a competition to play, He bought and played players like Donald Love whilst allowing the likes of Van Aanholt, Kaboul and others to leave, having looked very decent under Allardyce months prior. Moyes had a full season, lost 26 games out of 38, but aye we went down because the derby wasn't there..

Johnson was peddled and the bloke they got in sorted the defensive frailties out and got us promoted inside 4 month. The club isn't in a complete mess whatsoever, Infact it's in a very healthy financial position with an abundance of youth who have quality. The issue being is that the ownership group / decision makers seem to be naive in thinking a squad with an average age of 21 will get you promoted because over a 46 game season, they won't be consistent enough to be promoted. Saying the derby wins caused our demise is absolutely insane by the way, but if thats your opinion then fair enough.
