Newcastle United 1-1 Bournemouth (17/08/2022)
tomlynnherrington replied to jack j's topic in Football
I think we all knew in the summer that we lacked creativity yet nothing was done about it.Bruno and ASM look to make things happen. How many chances have been made or dangerous balls come into the box from Almiron,Fraser,Murphy,Willock,Longstaff and Big Joe this season? Against Bournemouth both fullbacks looked to keep the ball when an early cross into the box was an option. The midfield needs sorting in the January window as a priority. -

Burn is our best player at moving the ball on quickly. As for him not bringing the ball out of defence when the situation arose against Bournemouth,he’s nee Beckenbauer,I’ll give you that.I thought he was our best player on Saturday. -

Is it because corners are drilled in at speed? Why not get more height and less pace when we have a corner.Inswinging one or two is another option. -

Arsenal we’re rumoured to be interested in him during the summer. They may not require his services if their current form continues. -

I cannot disagree. Is he without a thigh muscle or is the ball too heavy for him to kick it hard. -

Playing Almiron on the left and ASM on the right would surely mean earlier and better crosses into the box,not so if Eddie want’s us to keep the ball and hope someone ( Bruno) can thread a ball into the box from a central position. For most of the game we seemed to be finding Almiron with quicker passes than usual but of course his first thought is to get his left foot on the ball and turn away from the goal. -
The nominated penalty taker should always take the pens for me.If you had two players on a brace, and the regular penalty needing another goal to hit the twenty goal mark for the season, who takes the pen if all three are full of confidence about scoring? It’s the managers job to select a regular penalty taker, not a ‘ decide amongst yourselves’ moment.

Good post.Murphy,Almiron,Fraser,Longstaff,Willock, and Manquillo. We’re stuck with them until the end of January at the earliest.Let’s say ASM,Shelvey and Wilson return for the Fulham game. That would mean none I’ve mentioned above need to be selected,Our first team eleven, when all fit, be that bad but surely Eddie quickly realised when he arrived that we have no strength in depth so I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt, for now,and say he couldn’t get rid of them last summer. -

Willock goes through the motions when he’s on song.He adds nothing to the team whatsoever. The shot he had was diabolical but expected when you saw a Bournemouth defender closing in to tackle or block. He shit himself basically. He’s clearly Eddie’s favourite player. -

How often did we look as solid in defence as Bournemouth looked today, under Bruce? -

Too many players played too many 10 yard passes within thirty yards of their goal. That’s shirking their responsibilities,or lack of ability to make something happen.I thought Trippier was one of the worst culprits.Almiron time and time again fucked about wide right then passed to Trippier who put his foot on the ball, then played it inside and ten yards back.Wood was brought on and still continued to do it.Willock played the ‘Jenas’ role in the second.Looking the part and doing fuck all.Big Joe looked out of his depth again.More interested in getting a yellow card than contributing anything worthwhile. A worrying performance from the team. -

Eddie must be telling them to keep the ball, even if it means playing it inside and backwards, unless they get to the byline. It takes us so long to get to the byline, the opposition have been given time to get back and get organised.Bringing on ( again) Longstaff and Murphy when we need a goal or two shows how weak we are on the bench. I’ll say it again,Big Joe and Willock aren’t going to make things happen.BDB Man Of The Match for me.The most crisp passer of the ball we have. -

How long has there been a love-in with Rangers? Rangers fans slashed a few mackems and basically ran riot before and after Gary Bennett’s testimonial quite a few years ago.magcatcherhutch more than held his own against 10,000 Rangers fans.

How exactly is he and his assistant going to eradicate individual errors. After every goal conceded you could blame someone. Clueless he is. -

3 bad goals to concede. Decisions just didn’t go our way tonight. We need to defend better. Look, hey. The fans need to move on from Ron Atkinson. All I’m asking for is to be given a chance.
