James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

I would buy Maddison but I think Howe might opt for Mount, as he would offer a similar work ethic to Longstaff but with better quality on the ball. Maddison offers even more quality on the ball than Mount but the graft side of his game comes less natural, unless it isn’t expected of him when playing off the striker and Leicester not being known for their press. -
Old article but talks about two or three signings here. Though the Newcastle boss admits the plan this summer is still to target 'marquee' additions - in a similar fashion to Isak's arrival last summer. “Yes, there would be players we’d love to bring in that would be classified in that bracket [as a marquee signing], I’m sure," he said. “For me, it’s more about the role they can fulfil in the team – whether that’s viewed positively or as a marquee signing, then great. I’m not in my mind thinking, ‘We have to have one of those players that ticks that box for the supporters’. As much as I’d love to do that, it’s about finding the right player in the right position who I think makes us better.” There is no doubt Newcastle will be stronger by the time the 2023/24 campaign rolls around. The only question revolves around whether Howe sticks to his guns regarding two or three new, top-class additions - or whether the need to strengthen away from the starting XI becomes apparent as the window progresses. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/eddie-howe-dan-ashworths-summer-26999063.amp I think it will be three for the starting eleven and another two youngsters that will stay with the squad to develop. I also think ASM will go as part of the overhaul.

James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

There is a video on Twitter where he talks about his responsibilities when playing as an #8 so if we do sign him it will be either there or wide right I think. It doesn’t hurt to have the players to swap up formations but if Howe was thinking 4-2-3-1 at any point then it’s hard to believe he would have shoehorned Isak out on the left at the end of the season. https://twitter.com/nufcgallowgate/status/1668194244534710273?s=46 -

Maddison is a better player than Mac Allister. -

Szoboszlai and Maddison Rotating mid game down the right like Joelinton and Willock do down the left.
-
Imagine upgrading Burn, Longstaff and Almiron in the starting eleven with Tierney, Szoboszlai and Maddison…?
-
It can be straight or curved depending on the length of the name.
-
The BBC football gossip part is reporting the same and saying it originated from L’Equipe.

Maguire wouldn’t make any sense at all, even on loan. What we would need in any upgrade to Schar is someone with pace and Maguire doesn’t have that, he also doesn’t have the long range passing ability of Schar that we use to switch play. He is the exact opposite of what we need.

I think Everton still have all sorts of issues with FFP so might need to sell.
-
The biggest thing holding us back is the lack of saleable players that were here pre takeover that we could look to sell to help with FPP.
-
This window? Yes.
-
I just looked and West Ham played 15 games in the Europa Conference, not far off another half a seasons worth of games.
-
I think that was wishful thinking more than anything. While I agree with Ashworth that the level we have been spending at is unsustainable, if we can buy a LB, RCB, CM x2 and a RM at the right quality and age to develop then this might be the last window where we have to buy so many anyway.

He would have been a decent back up to Bruno which is one of the positions we need to cover this summer. However, I can understand if the club see his wages as having people knocking on the door demanding more, not that I think he’s on anywhere near £200k a week.

I’ve just read that Spurs have an obligation to buy Pedro Porro for £39 million on the 1st July. Ouch!?
-
It will be on the next accounting year, as Willock’s summer transfer and the permanent deals for Targett and Pope were covered in the 2021/22 accounts. Botman was completed on the 1st July as requested by Lille so sits in the 2022/23 accounts. I have been reading an article from the Athletic that was published a few months ago and they said then about it being in the £60m - £80m range which was the amount earmarked for last summer, we can go above that but the concern is that we do what Everton did and go to the FFP limit too quickly which hinders ourselves in following windows.
-
I don’t think they will wait for the RCB, we have been lucky that we have been able to field a consistent defence all season but an injury to Schar will cause us major problems. We need depth at RCB every bit as much as we need cover for Bruno in my opinion.
-
We don’t seem to get linked with many players that would cost less than £30 million either.
-
Maybe it was just the keeper shirt as my boy wanted the green Pope kit for Christmas, I ended up getting it from kitbag I think.
-
I’m not even sure if you could get the name and number online from the club shop at all last season.

He’s 22 in November so if he isn’t ready soon he never will be.
