The reality is that we may not be able to acquire a new right winger unless Almiron or Murphy moves on. Without European competition, it would not be practical.
-
If Minteh had stayed, he would have likely been behind Almiron and Murphy in the pecking order for playing time this season. A loan move might have been a better option for him, as it is unlikely that he would have started ahead of our current options..
-
He loses his pace as he get older and this makes him vulnerable in one-on-one situations, as evidenced in the match against Sheffield at home. While he may be suitable for a back three formation, he is not well-suited for a back two formation as he gets older.
-
Even without the PSR Rules, we still wouldn't be able to move Almiron or Murphy. That means we'd be buying a new right winger while having two already on the books. Squad harmony and all. Just look at Chelsea.
-
In fairness, they did sell him to Sociedad for about 5 million pounds, which was much, much, much lower than his market value. So a 50% sell-on seems like a fair deal for both sides..
-
Didn't his previous club have a sell-on clause inserted? Re Minteh

I agree, it should also be noted that those saying Guehi is bad for PSR are the same saying we should buy a marquee RW. I guess it's really about opinions hey.
-
The deals have not yet been made public (which he did indicate were substantial), and it is already unclear how they will bridge the "PSR gap." Give it a rest lad.

A PSR talk a day keeps the transfers away.

None mate, none at all. 😆

Support bases in Africa and other parts of the world are fickle mate. If Everton were to consistently finish in the top four of the Premier League and acquire a few world-class players over the course of three years, it is possible that their support base could increase significantly, therefore increase commercial interest in their product. The breakaway six clubs are aware of this potential and are taking steps to protect their own interests. As an example, there has been a surge of interest in Newcastle United in these places. If Newcastle can maintain their competitive form, they may eventually catch up to or even surpass one of the underperforming breakaway six clubs. Given Manchester United's struggles in recent years, Sir Jim is understandably concerned about this same as Daniel Levy, Staveley mentioned this. The foreign market isn't as closed as the 6 want us to think. They benefit from making us believe that.
-
Football London states the same, with the only difference being that Arsenal signs Isak.

I totally agree, we're doing great up front, but our defense is letting us down. We need to fix that.

I think we need a centre-back more than a right-winger, especially if we're tight on budget. Since Eddie took over, we've been scoring and creating chances just fine, 90 odd big chances created, 3rd in the league. I'm sure the stat boffs amongst us can work out that RCB is more of a priority than RW. We've got more options up front than at the back. If Schar gets injured, Krafth plays. I could argue that if we conceded like 5 to 7 fewer goals last season, we could've easily finished in the top four. I really want to upgrade Almiron and Murphy, but a quality center back like Guehi is more important to me than a right winger, especially if we're tight on money. We shipped too many goals last season and cost us top 4.

Our scouts thought Gordon was gonna be a top player, but most of us looked at his stats, attitude, and the price tag and said no way. Just look at the Gordon thread to see how most fans felt about him, and don't forget how Everton fans thought they robbed us of 40 million. I trust our scouting and management team completely. They turned Big Joe from our worst signing ever to one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in just a few months. They deserve our trust. Trust the process lads

Hey, remember when we were all begging Fat Mike to take a chance and be a bit more ambitious? Well, he didn't listen, and look what happened - we got relegated a twice under him. But now, things are different. We've got new owners who aren't afraid to take risks and be ambitious. And guess what? Now it's us fans who are saying, "Whoa, slow down a bit! pipe down the ambition and risk guys because of PSR." spreadsheets after spreadsheets and complaining about a player who never played one game for us and a squad player. was Mike and his friends in the media right in saying the Geordie faithfully need a dose of realism? What happened to the mantra, "we don't demand a team that wins but a club that tries."

Honestly, mate, when someone starts talking about assumptions and guesswork, I'm out. We've got chartered accountants at Newcastle United who get paid to crunch the numbers. These Twitter and forum accountants have no idea how much we actually needed to meet PSR regulations June 30 2024. So how can they predict what we can or can't spend? I'll tell you how, through assumptions and guesswork.. If the management says we can spend 300 million this summer, I trust them. They've never given me a reason to doubt them.

Guehi is 24 years old and is a top 4 defender. If we want to consistently challenge for the top 4, we should sign him. He's available, refused to sign a new contract, and has 2 years left. Next year, he'll be unattainable because clubs like Liverpool will be after him.
-
Yeah, that's fair, but he wasn't even a regular starter back then. He only started eight games in the Bundesliga that season. Upamecano and Orban were ahead of him. So, Liverpool was basically betting on his potential since their main defenders at the time were Van Dijk and Matip when they were fit. Konate is always injured, so Guehi starts there, even at Man U or Chelsea. The fee is about right considering he's a top 4/6 player.
-
Guehi is 24 now, VVD was 24 when he left Celtic for Southampton. Guehi is a top player, a top 4 player. He should start in all Premier League backlines except maybe Arsenal and City. If we want to be in the top four consistently, we need players like him. Sixty million is a fair price for a top-four player.
-
Yeah, I agree. Every Newcastle supporter knows we need more speed and agility at center back. Guehi has that. So it's hard to understand why someone would talk about passing and not mention the obvious need for PACE in our back line. Guehi is one of the best central defenders in the league, imagine how good he'll be after Howe has trained him. That's why I think he's just trolling. He's not really saying anything that makes sense, even with all those stats he's throwing out there. Guehi would be a great signing if we can get it done. Let's make the conversation focus on Guehi and not TCD, he likes playing the devil's advocate.
