Parky
He's grown a goatee as if to hide behind his incessant managerial blunders. He started today with Crouch (who touched the ball twice in 60min) and this Voronin character who's a bit like a fat bus driver with a pony tail. James made one proper save all game. Torres and Kuyt sat there on the bench. He'll be for the chop this summer.
Luc
Kuyt isn't much of a finisher either.
Cajun
Voronin has looked a good player and Crouch has often looked their best striker. Not the first big club to claim a point from someone like Pompey.

Guest Stephen927
Very uninspiring team selection. Would have thought Benitez would have learnt from his mistakes last season at Fratton Park and played his strongest team. Portsmouth are a very strong side, but Liverpool should really have gone though looking to get the ball down and play, instead of relying on Crouch to try and do something with the countless long balls up to him. I thought Andy Grey hit the nail on the head when he said if you weant to rest your key players you do it by bringing them off after 55 minutes or so. Not the other way round. Guest DONTOONER
Best cup manager around. Not Mr consistent but so what when he win trophies. 60 + games a season and if they dont produce after a international break...not really surprising tbh. Dont be shallow and only look at single result.

Not the first big club to claim a point from someone like Pompey. Did you see the game at all? No Out of the 7 shots on target 5/6 came in the last 15 after Torres, Babel and Gerrard came on. Basically you start with your best side and then tinker later if players are tired once you've given yourself a chance to get a result.
EthiGeordie
Going to Pompy and get a full result is not easy. They manage to snatch a point from Man United as well. So it is not easy to win there and I belive Benitez is a good manger no one will touch him at Anfield.

Cajun
I think Crouch is probably a better striker than Kuyt but I am surprised that Torres was left out. He obviously isnt putting all his eggs into the winning the title basket but his record isn't a bad one at Liverpool and you don't win every game. Shak
Really does seem strange to be resting both Gerrard and Torres, their world class players going forward IMO. No way he'll be sacked next summer though I would say, they're improving every year and will go closer this year. Making steady progress, it'd make no sense to get rid. This is the wierdest thing about the paunchy goatee wearing Benny....He never seems to change his tune. Why the fuck start with a gameplan of lumping it to Crouch in the first place? Crouch is finished at Anfield he looked despondent was constatntly robbed of the ball and he has 0 pace.

The problem he has is that he has spent a whole load of cash and there will have to be a title challenge of sorts this year.

Well i wont be surprised, if they shown him the door only at the expense of manager with similar credentials...and there are not many floating around. Well put it this way..who has been the most successful teams out of the top 4 since Benny and Mourihno* join the league? In terms of cup competitions think benny has got to the finals of the biggest cup competition in the world. Debate The League title or the European Cup? I would pick the latter. Look man if you want to debate Liverpools current problems on the pitch not what happened 2 years ago I'm here for you. blueyes.gif In the summer I pinpointed 2 managers who have trouble this year (and people on this forum will back me up) the other one was Jol. I think Jol is a tactical bufoon and Benitwz is too def to be manager of Liverpool fc.
Guest Scouseman
Parky 22 million nett is hardly a fortune mate. I love watching Torres and Gerrard in the same team but wasn't too disappointed with the team selection today. Those I expected to perform, Alonso, Benayoun and Crouch had terrible games, just one of those days. Rafa took a gamble today, we play Porto this week who are the strongest opposition in our group and I think he wanted all of his players fresh for that. He thought todays team was strong eough to beat Portsmouth and so did many in the first half hour. 7 points from our 3 away games is doing fine imo. Talk about him getting sacked is ridiculous and something you've been saying for a long time. Rafa would have to make a multitude of mistakes, finish mid table and be out of the cups at the first hurdle to lose the fans backing here. He's a very much loved manager. I understand that to an extent but don't you agree he sets the side up too defensively on too many occassions?
Guest DONTOONER
Benny has always been tinkering with his squat...it is also not the 1st time that he made mistakes like that. Would be glad to have a debate with you if i had watched the game however based on his past credentials for the club i would assume he will do something worthwhile this season once again to keep him at the helm. Benny will only get sack if he finishes below the top 4 or has a bad run in his strongest sector, Cup Competition.
Guest Scouseman
Parky No, I think he sets the side up to beat the opposition and can change tactics through the game depending on how it's going. I've seen some fantastic football at Anfield in the last three years but, I have to admit, some dire away performances. He now feels, I think, that he has the players to play attacking football in the Valncia way for most games, but we'll see how the season pans out in that sense. YOu don't have to have watched the game to know that James made his first proper save after 60min and but for the Reina penalty save they would have lost. The point is he didn't start him. What is your point? I watched it on telly btw before you start. Come on give us summat to debate instead of a little playground girly waft.....
